A patient was in yesterday that I’ve been treating for about three months. Her initial diagnosis was stage four cancer, and in the three months she’s been on the Total Health Institute program she’s felt better than she has in many years, with more energy, and an excitement about life. A totally transformed person, but she went on a vacation and got off track with her diet — went to a restaurant and ate some lobster, and didn’t feel well at all after that. She woke up the next day to see both her legs were swollen with edema up to her hips. She had gained 15 pounds of fluid. She said it felt like she had elephant legs: she could barely walk and she felt very sick. She immediately she got back on track with her living/raw plant diet (no animal protein), and within a week, with excessive urination, all the swelling went down and her legs were back to normal. The lesson in the journey to her was: do not ever deviate from a diet that promotes health and healing — otherwise you produce an inflammatory environment that grows all pathogens, including cancer cells.

I’m tired of this food
I saw patient last week who constantly complains. He keeps asking me when he can go back to his old food that he likes because he doesn’t want to eat like this forever. He asks me why he can’t have all the fruit he used to eat? My response is cancer eats sugar, and if you keep putting sugar in, you’ll keep feeding cancer. Some fruits have lower glycemic index than others — that’s why some are allowed and others are not. The real point I’m trying to make here is that to heal a major health challenge like cancer requires a lot of energy, and that energy has to be focused. Undo the negative diet and lifestyle routines that you have developed over your life, and once you have done this you have a new life with new pleasures, new desires, and a whole new level of health..
The new life vs. the old life
I recently had a patient in for a visit that came to the Institute over four years ago with a significant cancer diagnosis. She had done the program and reaped the benefits. Her cancer was gone, her health was returned. This is the most dangerous time in a healing journey! Why? It is because a person tends to slack off the Seven Basic Steps that brought them to heal in the first place. In their mind they think: I’m eating the healthiest food and have been for quite some time so it’s okay if I have a little bit of my old food. Well, this patient came in and asked my opinion on why one of her toenails had recently become black? My response was that this is a fungus and fungus grows in sugar.
My next question to her was: what are you eating that is turning to sugar that I have not told you to eat? She stated: I’m eating everything on the diet as I should. And I responded and what else? She quietly stated well I’ve added just a few blue corn chips. My response was you’ve just added sugar which feeds fungus and cancer, so if you want to continue to do that it’s time for you to visit your oncologist again because you cannot play with cancer. You either starve it out permanently or you give it a foothold to grow and grow — it will at anytime that you make an environment for it to grow. It was a wake up call for her and on her next visit she said she was back on track and not playing around anymore.
Why did I get cancer?
Over the last 36 years of treating patients, this is a common question that I’m asked. The answer comes down to many factors, but the biggest factors fall into three categories:
- Conscious and subconscious stress programs.
- Diet — and not just eating healthier. Food is a big inflammatory substance, so each food that you eat must be tested to make sure it is neutral towards your immune system.
- Toxins and chemicals: believe it or not, it’s only a small percentage compared to the first two, but a small amount of poison will still kill you, so you must get this out of your system.
What is cancer?
Is cancer an alien that landed from another planet? Is it some foreign invader that needs to be killed at all costs? So many studies show the benefits of probiotics in the digestive tract that their value has become common knowledge. Other researchers ran a direct test on sixty elderly patients with advanced memory loss, giving some a placebo and some probiotics with L. acidophilus and B. Bifidum. Those taking probiotics scored much better in memory testing. Yet another study reversed the tests by wiping out good bacteria in mice with antibiotics – the reverse of probiotic action. The mice almost immediately showed memory loss, and brain cell growth halted. Then, giving the mice probiotics, the researchers saw that their memory and recall improved and their brain cell growth resumed.
Vital Strains
There are about 1,000 species of good bacteria that have been identified to aid the human digestive system, but there are just two primary families that are considered as “key”:
– Lactobacilli, which work in the small intestine.
– Bifidobacteria, which support the colon and lower digestive tract. It has been shown to improve memory and ability to learn in animal studies.

The Health Benefits of Sage
Sage is an herb that has not only been used as a flavoring but also used for medicinal and health purposes. Interestingly Salvia officinalis is the scientific name for sage and its Latin origin translates into English meaning “to be saved”. Many years ago sage was one ingredient that was included in a mix of herbs that were combined in the preventing of the plague, used in the treatment of fevers, used in a tea form to calm people so they could fall asleep and has been continued to be considered as being a remedy for various types of diseases.

Phytochemicals are chemicals that a plant produces to protect itself from getting diseases including cancer. These phytochemical have just begun to be researched and are one of the reasons that plant eating animals like elephants which only eat green grass and leaves become so big, strong and healthy. Health Benefits of Thyme
Thyme is yet another of God’s plants that can be used as food and medicine. The chemicals in many of the herbs are called phytochemicals and they protect the plant from disease and cancer. So when you eat these plants you also become protected from disease and cancer.
Thyme’s flowers, leaves and oil make this herb beneficial in many various health conditions. Thyme contains vitamin C, copper, fiber and manganese. Besides the common minerals and vitamins that thyme contains it also contains volatile oil components of borneol, carvacolo, geranio and thymol. Thyme and its components have been studied and have been considered great sources of anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.
Studies indicate that thyme can be taken orally for bronchitis and whooping cough. Other significant research indicates using thyme for arthritis, stomach aches and pains, diarrhea, intestinal gas and parasitic worm infections. Thyme for children has been used for bedwetting and colic. Thyme can be used as an appetite stimulant. Mint leaves have been used for centuries not only in foods but as medicinal purposes. Mint leaves have been found to contain beta carotene, calcium, chromium, iron, fiber, folate, folic acid, manganese, magnesium, niacin, phosphorus, potassium, riboflavin and vitamins A, B6, C, E, K and zinc.
Studies have shown that that the antioxidant of rosmarinic acid found in mint plants can be used for those with allergies. The menthol contained in mint has been effective to break up mucus and phlegm as it is a natural decongestant. The mint will also soothe sore throats and assist with being able to breathe more clearly. Those with asthma found that mint leaves aid in the relaxation of the bronchi and relieves congestion. Mint is one of the main ingredients in inhalers. Studies are currently underway for using mint on tuberculosis patients.
A study by Harvard Medical School found that those suffering with irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion or upset stomach have found mint to be a calming and soothing herb. Mint has also been known to aid in the promotion of digestion and working the salivary glands. Studies show that those with nausea and even babies with colic can have relief with mint leaves.
Mint has been studied in the area of memory loss and has been found to be a stimulant and help with retention and being alert. The stimulant function of mint can also aid in the stimulation of the digestive system and aid in a healthier way of weight loss. Chewing on mint leaves not only can be used to freshen ones breath, it can clean the tongue and teeth and contains germicidal ingredients that aid in the stopping of bacteria growing inside the mouth. For this reason many of the toothpastes and mouthwashes contain some form of mint as part of their ingredient.
Research is currently being done on the enzymes found in mint for the treatment and prevention of cancer, especially of the prostrate. The extract of Scutellaria barbata from the mint family has been found to starve the tumors by attacking blood vessels which feed the tumor. This extract knows the difference between good and bad blood vessels and helps starve the ones from oxygen so they can’t grow.
Mint leaves contain potassium which aids in the lowering of blood pressure and regulating pulse rate. Mint leaves are found to be beneficial for skin treatments which would include acne, and can also be used for rashes and insect bites as they have a cooling effect. This cooling and soothing of mint leaves can be beneficial in the reduction of headaches, stomach aches, and muscle pain and possibly aid in the curing of depression.

Health Benefits of Oregano
Oregano as most know is used for flavoring, however new studies are showing that oregano has many other assets for its use. The Greeks have used oregano for centuries for various ailments. The 19th century had doctors that frequently recommended oregano for general well-being. Constant studies are being performed to generate more uses for increased health benefits of oregano.
Oregano does not contain cholesterol and contains dietary fibers which aid in the control of levels in blood cholesterol. Oregano contains vitamins A and C, calcium, fiber, iron, manganese, niacin, omega fatty acids, vitamins E and K, riboflavin, thiamine and beta carotene. Oregano contains minerals such as calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, potassium and zinc. The vitamin K, magnesium and calcium in oregano is important for the promotion of bone health and bone density maintenance. Vitamin K is also important for the production of blood clotting proteins. Potassium aids in controlling blood pressure and heart rate and iron aids in the prevention of anemia.
Oregano is very high in antioxidants and is also considered an antiviral which protects the cells against free radicals and aids in the protection from infections. Oregano contains properties that also allow it to be considered an antiparasitic and an insect repellant.
Oregano oil contains the essential compound called carvacol which makes the oregano oil very antimicrobial. Other oils contained in oregano are caryophyllene, limonene, ocimene, and pinene. Researchers from Britain and India have found that the essential oil from oregano is strong enough to kill MRSA, which is a hospital superbug. Another group of Portuguese researchers have found that oregano oil was effective against Listeria and 41 other strains of food pathogens. The carvacol is also being used for continuous studies as showing that oregano contains components that may prevent the spread of cancer and/or slow down cancer cells. With the addition of thymol, oregano becomes a powerful antibacterial as it can increase the protection from bacterial diseases and infections.
Oregano has been used as an antifungal product and can inhibit candida growth. German scientists found that a key ingredient contained in oregano called beta-caryophyllin could be effective in the treatment of osteoporosis and arteriosclerosis.
Other uses for oregano have been for respiratory ailments such as asthma, bronchitis, coughs, and croup. Oregano can also be of help for headaches, menstrual cramps and heart conditions. External application of oregano oil has been used in the treatment of acne, canker sores, rosacea, warts, varicose veins and psoriasis. Heartburn and bloating are other gastrointestinal disorders which oregano has been used for.
