Combining Healthy Foods to Prevent Cancer

Much has been said and written about the power of food in the prevention of cancer, and certainly good nutrition is one of the fundamentals of good health. However, what often gets overlooked when people discuss cancer fighting foods is the importance of choosing the right food combinations to maximize the effectiveness of a healthy diet. It is sometimes too easy to view cancer fighting foods in isolation, and to assume that if one simply adds more walnuts to one’s diet that will effectively prevent, or combat, cancer. No Single Food Is A Star

  • Brussels Sprouts and Broccoli – Both of these vegetables are rich in vitamin C and folate, which are instrumental in the prevention of cancer. They also both contain phytonutrients, crambene in the case of Brussels sprouts and indole-3-carbinol in the case of broccoli. These phytonutrients work together to prevent dangerous carcinogens from damaging otherwise healthy cells at the DNA level.
  • Tomatoes and Fat – We’ve all been taught that fat is bad for us, but in reality the body does actually need a lot of “good”fat for optimal health. The Lycopene in tomatoes is fat soluble, and the body can’t absorb it without the presence of fat. A healthy combination would be a tomato salad with avocados and olive oil.

God made the living and raw food to supply everything we need to protect ourselves from disease, but it is important to understand that no single plant or vegetable holds the ultimate answer. How we combine our food is just as important as the food we choose to put on our table. The Bitter Truth – Exploring the Connection Between Sugar and Cancer

The consumption of sugar has long been recognized as a direct cause of obesity and diabetes, two of the major health concerns facing Americans today. However, it may be surprising for some people to learn that there is a direct correlation between sugar rich diets and the development of many common cancers. With nearly 13 million people being diagnosed with some form of cancer every year, it is clear that cancer has become an ongoing epidemic that shows little sign of abating. Foods that are high in either refined sugar or even natural sugars do not, in fact, boost the body’s energy levels. They only serve to throw the body’s natural mechanisms off kilter, resulting in ill health and chronic disease. The body’s metabolism actually works far better burning living and raw plant fats for fuel than starches and sugars.

Excess Dietary Sugar and Cancer

Once we accept that the body can produce all of the natural glucose it needs from a healthy diet, we can begin to look at the negative effects of the over consumption of sugars on our overall health, and how it can lead to the development of cancer. All cells rely on sugar for the energy they need to reproduce, but cancer cells are particularly ravenous for sugars. And when we have too much sugar in our daily diet it tends to feed cancerous cells, giving them the fuel they need to multiply and form into colonies. Moreover, excess dietary sugar leads to an increase in insulin production, as well as an increase in the protein B-catenin, both of which have been linked to an elevated risk for developing a number of different types of cancer. Recent studies have shown that B-catenin unnaturally extends cell-life while encouraging cell proliferation, thereby increasing the potential for cells to mutate and turn cancerous.

At first glance, reducing our intake of sugar would appear to be simple. However, refined sugars lurk in often surprising places, and foods that appear healthy may actually be packed with unnecessary, and unwanted, sugars. In addition to the obvious offenders, soda, candy, and pastries, excess refined sugars can also be found in the following:

  • Protein/Nutrition Bars
  • Salad Dressings
  • Breads
  • Pastas

But behavioral neuroscientists at Rutgers and Princeton universities in New Jersey have shown not only that brains of rats produce new cells, but also what they do. “It appears that the new neurons become involved in memory about a week to two weeks after they are generated, and they are involved in memories normally handled by the hippocampus (an area of the brain) according to Dr. Shors of Rutgers. The research suggests that the brain’s recuperative powers may have been underestimated and could be far greater than scientists had previously thought.

However, environment also plays a large role in cancer statistics. Unfortunately, when we talk about environmental cancer risks most people tend to only see the big picture, focusing on pollution, radiation, or toxic waste disposal. But there are many cancer causing agents that might be lurking closer to home. Many of the household products that we take for granted may actually be increasing our risk for developing cancer. Fortunately, there are steps we can take to cancer-proof our homes. But before we can do that, we have to identify the cancer causing household products that we need to avoid.

Household Cleaners

We all want to keep a clean house, both for appearance sake and for our own good health. But many of the common household cleaners we have relied on for years actually contain harmful chemicals that have been linked to a variety of health issues, including asthma, cancer and neurological disorders. Many common household cleaners and detergents contain toxic chemicals, such as Acetone, Diethanolamine, Ethoxylated Nonyl Phenol, and Methylene Chloride. The names of the chemicals alone are a good indicator that we really don’t want these products in our homes. A majority of these household cleaners can be replaced with all natural alternatives, such as hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and white vinegar. For example, a general all-purpose cleaner can be made from simply combining one cup of white vinegar with one cup of water. Nonstick Cookware

The Teflon revolution was major news in the 1950’s and 1960’s, and housewives all around the country were trading in their cast-iron skillets for new-fangled non-stick cookware. Cosmetics

The majority of over the counter cosmetics are full of potential carcinogens. The chemicals used in many so-called “health and beauty” products are actually toxic, and over time can have a disastrous effect on our health. Again, just a list of the chemicals used in most cosmetics is indicative of the health hazards they contain. Consider the following common chemicals found in most cosmetics:

  • Formaldehyde

  • Pheylenediamine

Meditation, Autoimmune Disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis

Meditation and ArthritisResearchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore are studying to see if meditation helps sufferers of the autoimmune disorder, which affects about 2.1 million Americans, mostly women. Those with the disease often have general fatigue, soreness, stiffness and aches at first. Joints may swell and become damaged over time.

Groups of rheumatoid arthritis patients are being trained in “mindfulness,’’ a form of stress reduction meditation developed 30 years ago at the University of Massachusetts. Their progress is being compared to patients not in the program.

Mindfulness is similar to many meditation techniques. Participants are taught to focus on breathing to quiet the mind and become aware of the moment.

The method has been used successfully to help patients with chronic pain from a variety of conditions, but this marks the first time it is being studied to see if it can help the physical and psychological symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis patients. Participants are taught to quiet their mind and feel more connected to their body. The results were very positive as one of the participants said meditation has made her symptoms less severe, helping relieve stress that she said made the condition worse. “With this type of approach, you learn to acknowledge you have pain and, by realizing it and by being in this relaxed state, the pain is less,’’ she said.

What is meditation? To put it simply, it is stilling the conscious, thinking mind so you become aware of what God is revealing to your heart, to your spirit. This study showed how stilling the mind could help alleviate pain but it goes way, way beyond that. “Be still and know that I am God.”

When we learn and train ourselves to still the mind, stop the never ending chatter, this is when we can truly begin to hear the voice of God who speaks to the heart. Why the heart? Because your mind is too full. Full of the world system of facts, words of men, opinions, attitudes, beliefs, and lies. Once you can train yourself to stop thinking and start listening to the inner voice, which is God speaking to your heart, a whole new world will being to open up for you. You will start to receive answers to questions and solve problems with God’s direction and guidance instead of your old mind calculating probabilities and giving you a pro vs. con conversation.

A powerful Truth you always want to remember is this: God’s ways are not man’s ways. His words are not man’s words. Decisions made out of fear are of the mind. Decisions made out of peace are from God placing that peace in your heart.

Spirit

What is your spirit? It is the part of your being that operates in the following four functions:

  • Consciousness/Awareness
  • Intuition
  • Communion/communication with God
  • Body/Mind/Spirit Covenant Executor

Today we will explain what communion with God is.

Communion

This is the most awesome function of our spirit, it is the part that talks and listens to God. It is the part that communes with Him, our creator and sustainer. This intimate communication line was interrupted when Adam broke the original covenant partnership with God by eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. From this broken covenant – humankind empowered the lie-filled mind to rule their beings. They quenched the Truth-filled heart/spirit (the knowing in the heart) and enthroned the mind (the knowledge of the mind which is based in the lie). Then God in His infinite love and wisdom made the Way, so the communication line could be permanently restored.

This was a new and everlasting and unbreakable covenant that would be made between Himself, His Son, and all human beings. This covenant is entered into when you recognize, have the consciousness/awareness of the Truth, that you cannot live life from your lie-filled old mind but instead must live from your Truth-filled heart/spirit.

When you ask the Living God into your heart in essence you are saying “NO” to the world, ego, flesh, lie-filled old mind and “YES” to the Truth-filled heart where God lives. This is grace, which is another powerful covenant word which means “I am personally entering into a covenant with the Living God, I will do all that He places in my heart, with all my strength and ability no matter what the outcome, because I know in my heart that when I give all that I have in following my Truth-filled heart, He (the Living God), my covenant partner will meet me with all that He IS to carry the action steps to completion.

When I enter this covenant, I have committed my life to following only my Truth-filled heart and not my lie-filled old mind. I will follow this Truth no matter what the outcome, no matter what it costs me – even if I have to put everything I have ever been taught or learned to death with my old knowledge lie-filled mind, even if it costs me my physical life, because I know, that I know, that I know when I live a life solely from a Truth-filled heart I will be blessed with ALL the covenant blessings my covenant partner (the Living God) is just waiting to pour upon me – so much so that I cannot even think or imagine.

When I enter this covenant relationship I realize that I am committing my body, my mind, and my spirit to following the Truth placed in my heart. I will follow this Truth never quitting, stopping, or giving up, no matter what the price demands. The Growing Link Between Obesity and Cancer

The links between obesity and a variety of serious health conditions, including diabetes and heart disease, have been well documented over the last few decades. It is clear that obesity has become one of the greatest health challenges facing Americans in the 21st century. But the dangers of obesity may be even greater than originally observed. Recent research is proving that obesity is also a major contributing factor in the occurrence of many common cancers, and is second only to tobacco as a causal link in the development of a wide range of otherwise preventable cancers. Excess body weight has been directly linked to the ever increasing number of cases of breast cancer, prostate cancer, bowel and colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, and cervical and ovarian cancer. It is clear that cancer prevention begins with weight control, and there is no better time than now to seriously reassess America’s ongoing battle with obesity.

Cancer, Obesity, and Biology

In 2007, the World Health Organization recorded more than 80,000 new cases of cancer which could be directly linked to obesity. These cases involved both sexes, with obesity related cancers being slightly more prevalent amongst post-menopausal women. While it is not yet known exactly how excess body weight increases an individual’s cancer risk, some biological factors are clear. First, fatty tissue creates an environment in which cancer causing toxins can be stored and in which they can thrive. Excess body fat also leads to an increase in the production of estrogen in women, as well as insulin in both men and women. Both of which have been linked to an increased risk for cancer. Cancer prevention begins by making serious dietary and lifestyle choices. Choices that will provide our bodies with the energy and nutrients they need to protect themselves from damage and disease. The continued rise of various types of cancers in the western world can be directly connected to diet. As a whole, we rely too heavily on highly processed foods. We eat too much meat, we drink too many sugary soft drinks, and we seem culturally opposed to fresh vegetables. More to the point, we simply eat too much. If cancer prevention begins with diet, than it is important to know what foods we should add to our diets to reduce our risks for a number of different types of cancers.

The following half dozen foods have been shown to greatly reduce the risk of cancer in otherwise healthy adults. These are common foods, available to all, so there is no reason they should not become an integral part of your diet.

Flax seeds

Flax seeds have been shown to contain a number of cancer fighting compounds, including phytoestrogens, fiber, and antioxidants. When taken as part of a healthy diet they have been shown to reduce the risk of many common cancers. Now, when we speak of flax seeds the emphasis is on organically grown, unprocessed seeds. Remember, the more highly processed the food is, the less cancer fighting nutrients remain.

Cleaning Products Cause Asthma

Exposure to fumes emitted by cleaning products in the home could cause asthma in children, a study shows. The study found that children exposed to higher levels of volatile organic compounds were four times more likely to suffer from asthma than children who were not.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are found in solvents, paints, floor adhesives, cleaning products, polishes, room fresheners and fitted carpets, the study said.

The study included 88 children who were treated for asthma at the emergency department of the Princess Margaret Hospital in Perth.

The study also found that volatile organic compound (VOC) concentrations were higher in homes where people smoked indoors, as well as homes that had been recently painted or had new carpets.  VOCs are carcinogenic (cancer causing) and some may be significantly related to asthma. -Thorax Asthma

A British survey of 43% of adults found they eat to change a negative mood. But 25% feel guilty after eating and another 25% feel if they become thinner they will be happier.
The survey of 2,000 people showed 47% of adolescents aged 16-24 and 40% of those aged 35-44 had eaten because they were bored.
25% of the people aged 45-54 have eaten because they were stressed. Others ate after arguing with their spouse or partner.
The study showed that the most common eating disorders also affect the high-achiever in her mid-thirties to mid-fifties who is successful in most facets of her life, yet uses eating as a dysfunctional method of coping with low self-esteem, stress, insecurity and other issues.
According to the Eating Disorders Association, eating disorders were about emotions and not about food.

The greatest addiction/bondage to all humanity is food. This new research just classified why people partake in emotional eating. Almost half of people eat to change a mood, to overcome stress, loneliness, or they simply are bored with life and have no other outlet for excitement in their life.
Let us take a deeper look at food. Do we eat to live or live to eat? Is food a pleasure of our life or is food the pleasure of our life?

A person usually eats for pleasure when they are not finding it where God designed it to come from. This is from HIM and HIM alone. Why did God create us? To know Him and to give Him glory, honor and praise. This is what satisfies us. This is what pleases us. This is our true pleasure in life. If this is not being fulfilled because we are feeding our flesh-filled, ego-filled, world-filled old minds then we will turn to alternate sources of pleasure which include food, power and sex (not love). Well, in this list you cannot always have power over another and you cannot always have sex with another but you can always fulfill you pleasure of food–hence it is the greatest addiction, greatest bondage and the area Jesus was tempted first by satan.

How can you free yourself from this food-bondage of emotional eating?

Eternal life doesn’t just mean living forever with God in heaven, it also means living God’s designed life right now on this planet. It means living life to the full in body, mind, and spirit. The function of your spirit as body/mind/spirit executor is to receive the Truth from God for any situation that arises in your life journey. This is the “knowing” the Truth in your heart. Next the body willingly obeys all the desires of your heart of Truth. Then comes the mind that has been filled with lies, and has been trained from a generational and personal past of the world system, ego, flesh, religion, past and future bound thinking, and physical limitation bound thinking.

The mind has to be willing to “let it go” and die to all it has been programmed with in order to be reprogrammed and renewed with Truth. This is the greatest blockage to all of humankind’s total health of body, mind, and spirit. This is the greatest blockage that prevents the Spirit of God from flowing unhindered in our lives and the world today. The key deciding factor is found in a part of your soul (mind, will, and emotions).

It is your WILL. Your will is either free, and will always choose the Truth, or it is bound and will always choose the lie of the old mind. The choice is yours – choose life or death, blessing or cursing. Life and blessing are receiving everything from God, your covenant partner, once you have given all you have in following the action steps He has revealed to your heart. Death and cursing are choosing to separate from God, from the Truth revealed in your heart. This means that you live life from yourself, from your old mind. This means it is you, and you alone against the world, against the prince of the world, against the father of lies. You will NEVER have true love, joy, peace, and hope (knowing) if you choose to follow the old lie-filled mind.

pH Levels and the Fight Against Cancer

The Lord designed the human body to heal itself, and when we are able to return our bodies to their natural balance they have the innate ability to ward off, and to eliminate, disease. That balance is exemplified by the body’s natural pH levels, or, in other words, it’s tendency toward acidity or alkalinity. Recent studies have linked an elevated level of acidity in the human body to increased instances of disease, and it has become clear that maintaining the body’s optimal pH levels is a powerful weapon in the prevention of many diseases, including cancer. Moreover, by maintaining the body’s optimal pH level we can help to slow sown the overall effects of aging.

Understanding pH Levels

pH stands for “potential of hydrogen”, and is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. pH levels are represented on a scale of 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. A pH level of 0 to 6 is on the acidic side, while a pH level of 8 to 14 is alkaline. The optimal pH level for the human body (excluding the stomach and digestive tract, which requires a higher acidity for digestion) is 7.35 to 7.45, leaning towards a higher than neutral alkalinity. When the body’s pH level deviates from this median, it becomes prone to illness and disease.

Maintaining optimal pH levels in the body is vital to its total health, and creates an environment that prevents cancerous cells from surviving and multiplying. If pH levels becomes too acidic, either through stress, toxins, or poor diet, it can inhibit the body’s ability to absorb and distribute the minerals and nutrients cells need to replicate and repair themselves. Higher acidity levels also deprive the body’s cells of oxygen, and limits their ability to dispose of harmful heavy metals and environmental toxins. This can lead to an increased risk for the development of cancerous cells, and the growth of cancerous tumors.

Maintaining Optimal pH Levels in the Body

The best way to maintain the body’s optimal pH level is through diet. Unfortunately, the typical American diet consists of food stuffs that tend to increase the acidity of the human body. Meats, alcohol, sugars, and highly processed foods all become acidic when consumed, lowering the body’s pH level. Vegetables, such as spinach, watercress, Brussels sprouts and peppers become alkaline when eaten, raising the body’s pH level. Consequently, transitioning to a predominantly vegetarian diet is recommended to promote a healthy balance between alkaline and acid.

  • Alkaline producing foods include: alfalfa sprouts, broccoli, mushrooms, eggplant, almonds, ginger, cucumbers to name a few. Basically most all vegetables are alkaline.
  • Acid producing foods include: meat, chicken, fish, dairy products, corn, barley, rice, chick peas, beans, rye and wheat flour. Most grains are acidic.
  • To be at a high level of health you want as many alkaline producing foods as possible. This alkalinity will help to keep pH levels at an optimal level, making the body an inhospitable playground for cancer and cancer causing toxins.

Stress and pH

Probable the biggest factor that acidifies the body is mental and emotional stress. When the body is under stress it produced high amounts of a hormone called cortisol. When cortisol is high the pH is affected in an acidic direction. What you do to your mind you do to your body. Stress perceived become acid in the body and will predispose you to all types of symptoms, conditions and diseases including cancer. What you do to your mind you do to your body and what you do to your body you do to your mind.

Good Night Sleep Can Prevent Cancer

According to Stanford University School of Medicine researchers, a good night’s sleep may even help fight cancer. The quality and quantity of a person’s sleep can have a tremendous affect on the balance of hormones in the body. That fact makes the sleep/wake cycle (circadian rhythm) a prime candidate for linking cancer prognosis to a person’s quality and quantity of sleep.

The circadian rhythm involves the hormones melatonin and cortisol. Melatonin is produced by the brain during sleep. It is a strong  antioxidant. Antioxidants remove damaging free-radical compounds. People with an altered circadian rhythm produce less melatonin. That means that their cells are less protected by the strong antioxidant affects of melatonin and more prone to cancer-causing mutations. Melatonin has also been shown to slow estrogen production. In many forms of breast and ovarian cancer, estrogen causes cancer cells to continue to reproduce. Workers on night shifts produce less melatonin and are therefore more prone to cancer. The second possible link involves the hormone cortisol. It normally reaches peak levels at dawn and declines through the day.

Cortisol  helps regulate immune system activity. This includes the activity of natural killer cells that help the body fight cancer. Research has found that women with breast cancer whose normal cortisol cycle was disrupted — their peak levels occurred in the afternoon instead of at dawn — died earlier from their cancer.
