Are bioidentical hormones safe?

The words bioidentical hormone have become synonymous with safer hormones because they are made of natural substances that are biochemically identical to a woman’s natural hormones. Although they are natural, they are still hormones and taken in too large a quantity can still stimulate cancer growth. The best approach to balance a women’s hormonal system is to balance the other systems of the body first, then if hormone replacement is needed, it will be in such small amounts that it will not trigger cancer cell formation.

With the premature termination study by the Women’s Health Initiative, which linked hormone replacement therapy with increased breast cancer risk, many women ceased taking hormone medication. And although their breast cancer rate decreased, their quality of life also decreased. Symptoms of estrogen and progesterone imbalances like: irritability, mood swings, anxiety, depression, decreased sex drive, sleep problems, weight gain, fatigue, food cravings, water retention, bloating, headaches, joint pain, acne, PMS, irregular menstrual periods and brain fog once again reappeared. This caused women to seek out possible safer alternatives to standard hormone replacement therapy (HRT). This is when bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) entered the scene as a possible way to get back to a normal way of life again. The bioidentical hormones were made from natural substances instead of pregnant horse urine.

The question arose, if HRT is unsafe then how can someone be certain that BHRT is safe and will not cause cancer like the standard HRT? Estrogen is a growth hormone. This hormone decreases appetite, improves mental capacity, stabilizes mood, acts as an antidepressant, promotes sex drive, keeps skin thick and tight preventing wrinkles, it helps prevent osteoporosis, heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease. This all sounds good, for a woman to feel like she is 20 when she is 50. There is one catch – when the body is stimulated to do all these at too high a level when it is 50 years old, the risk of increasing cell growth and cancer also increases.

Taking bioidentical hormones without increasing cancer risk

If you looks at BHRT from a physiological standpoint, you can find the answer: Taking supplemental hormones to make a woman feel great and not increasing her risk of cancer. There are five major systems along with the biochemistry and mental/emotional states that control your health and life they are in order:

  • Nervous
  • Hormonal
  • Digestive
  • Eliminative
  • Reproductive

These five systems when functioning normally along with balanced biochemistry and mental/emotional states promotes total health. Hormonal health is no different from neurological health or digestive health. They are all interconnected and what is done to one is done to them all. So to balance estrogen and progesterone levels does not lie in just taking potentially safer bioidentical hormones, but in balancing your nervous system including the neurotransmitters, hormonal system in order of priority: first the pituitary gland (master hormone regulator), then the thyroid gland (metabolism), followed by the pancreas (digestion and blood sugar), next are the adrenals (stress response) and finally the ovaries which produce estrogen and progesterone. Women need to understand that ovaries are last in order of importance in the hormonal system.

You can see it much more than taking a hormone to feel better, but balancing all systems and states in order of priority. When this is accomplished, if a woman needs to take bioidentical hormones they will be safe and not produce cancer because the need will be a much smaller dose; the body is now in balance, needing just a little help in the female hormonal area.

Breast cancer- the complete way to heal

Breast cancer is the number one cancer that kills women. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation have proved that there needs to be a more comprehensive approach to healing this disease. The answer can only be found when one truly understands that breast cancer is not caused by physical factors alone but like all disease, is holistic – meaning it only manifests when the body, mind, emotions and spirit are out of balance. When these four are in harmony, the stage is set for complete healing to occur.

Breast cancer must be looked at from an environmental and emotional perspective. So what makes cancer cells form and become so aggressive? The answer is found in the environment that the cells are raised in. If a person is laden with chemicals and toxins, if they are deficient in key vital nutrients, if they have had physical trauma or even worse, emotional trauma, all these factors press the button for normal cells to change into cancer cells.

Mental/Emotional/Spiritual Protocol

Breast cancer is linked to the emotional shocks of worry, fear and separation. These are not small day-to-day worries but major emotional shocks that usually caught the woman off guard. The first kind of breast cancer is of the mammary gland and can be triggered by a worry or argument conflict with a spouse, child, mother or over the loss of the home. The second type of breast cancer is of the intraductal gland and can be set off by a separation or fear conflict from a spouse, child, mother or home. In life, the physical is just a manifestation of the mental, emotional and spiritual states. What one sees in their body is a product of their thoughts, emotions and beliefs.

So how can you heal breast cancer? By healing your entire life. Start first by learning how to let go of being dependent upon others. People are made to be with one another but to not be codependent upon each other. The only One we are to be codependent upon is our Family (Our Father in heaven, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit who lives within us teaching us, guiding us and empowering us to be who we really ARE, the sons and daughter of God). If worry, separation and fear are the biggest triggers of breast cancer, then you must begin to emotionally condition yourself to be able to live a life without a spouse, child, home or whatever else you are so attached to that will trigger a disease in the body if its lost. Always remember who your first Love IS! He will never leave you nor forsake you but always love you unconditionally. Loss does cause a grieving period but then that time should be finished and you should move on to the next chapter of your life. A person who is at peace with themselves (because they know who they ARE in Family of God) is a person who is healthy in many ways.

Physically, the way to heal is to get at least eight hours of sleep a night, preferably with four of those before midnight, and to eat a diet high in raw vegetables and fruits. Next is exercise; to move lymph fluid (where two thirds of the immune strength is found) and to increase oxygen levels in the body. Cancer cannot grow in high oxygen. Last but not least, is to live a life of reflection and meditation. Stilling yourself enough to be able to listen to the truth of what God is speaking into your heart.

Breast cancer should not be something to fear but rather a call to go deeper in this journey called life. Instead of emotionally reacting, it should be a call to rise to the challenge that life has presented, a time to reevaluate each area of life and to seek where physical, mental, emotional and spiritual improvements can be made to make life better than it ever was. What appears to be the worst is really meant to become the best. What the world system means for evil, God will always turn around for your good if you just put Him first and foremost in your life and trust His Word, His Love and in this trust or faith step out with actions steps that are led by the Holy Spirit speaking to your heart. Faith without action is dead and you must always live by faith not by sight, sound, taste, touch or smell. The five senses only feed the mind. Love and Truth feed the heart, the spirit within you to live a life of faith and receive all the promises He gave you.

5 Common Cancer Symptoms Women Should Not Ignore

Successful cancer treatment begins with early detection. Unfortunately, many people have a tendency to ignore the early warning signs of many common types of cancer. Men are notoriously more prone to ignore their symptoms, and to postpone going to a doctor for a diagnosis. That being said, women are not completely innocent of the habit. Sometimes it’s due to fear, and sometimes it’s simply denial. Younger women are particularly prone to ignore cancer symptoms, assuming that cancer is a disease that only affects older women. Whatever the reasons, it is clear that ignoring early warning signs of cancer is a mistake, and one that can have devastating consequences. To maintain their total health, it is vital that women keep in touch with their bodies and recognize when something is amiss. Here are some common cancer symptoms that women should not be ignoring.

Unexpected Weight Loss

Everyone would like to lose a few pounds, but an unexpected weight loss may be a sign of a serious health disorder. For example, losing 8 to 10 pounds over the course of a month, without any dieting or increase of exercise, may be indicative of a number of disorders, including an overactive thyroid or a possible cancer. It may also be a reaction to stress, or other lifestyle factors. Either way, any unexpected weight loss could be a symptom of cancer, or another serious health condition, and should not be ignored.

Bloating

Bloating is not uncommon, and many women simply assume that it is always natural. But extended periods of bloating, recurring for a few weeks or more, may indicate a more serious condition. Persistent bloating, particularly when coupled with abdominal or pelvic pain, may be an early symptom of ovarian cancer.

Changes in Breast Tissue

By now, most women have learned how important self-examinations are in the early detection of breast cancer. But lumps in the breast aren’t the only symptoms with which women should be concerned. Changes in the size or shape of the nipple, or an unusual discharge when not breast feeding, may also be early warning signs of breast cancer. Likewise, a persistent rash, or a thickening of the skin of the breast, could be indicative of inflammatory breast cancer, which is a rare but highly aggressive form of the disease. Again, these are symptoms which should not be ignored. This article on breast cancer describes natural prevention in greater depth.

Changes in Skin Texture

Again, most people know that skin cancer can be preceded by an unexpected change in any moles they may have on their bodies. But there are other symptoms of skin cancer that women should take note of, as they may be early warning signs for skin cancer. Watch for any sign of change in skin pigmentation or texture. Persistent rashes, thickening of the skin, or excessive scaling could also be early signs of skin cancer.

Between Period Bleeding

Many women tend to ignore any instances of between period bleeding. But and bleeding, or spotting, between periods may be an early sign of many types of gynecological cancer. It is important for women to understand what is normal for them, and to take note of any aberrations. For example, if you never spot in between periods, and suddenly you do spot, it may indicate that there is a problem and you should see your health care provider. Postmenopausal women who experience bleeding or spotting may be an early sign of endometrial cancer.

Being aware of your body, and of what is normal and abnormal for it, is the first step towards the early detection of cancer. And early detection is the first step in the successful treatment of all cancers. Cancer grows in an abnormal environment. This can be a toxic or deficient environment physically or a stressful mental/emotional environment. If you have any of these signs it does not mean you have cancer but what it does mean is that it is time to work on your health at a much higher level. It is important that women are better able to recognize when their body has strayed from the healthy path and know how to take the actions steps necessary to restore their total health.

Tips for Preventing Cervical Cancer Naturally

Cervical cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer affecting women in the United States today. Nearly 15,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer every year, with nearly 4,000 women ultimately succumbing to the disease. Cervical cancer occurs when abnormal cells develop along the cervix, and begin to grow out of control. Conventional treatments for cervical cancer rely on surgery (full or partial hysterectomy), chemotherapy and radiation treatment. These treatments are fundamentally assaults on the body, and carry unwanted and dangerous side effects. As with all forms of cancer, the best therapy is prevention. By making certain lifestyle changes, and by educating themselves on the effects of diet and environment on their overall health, women can significantly lower their risks for cervical cancer.

The Causes and Symptoms of Cervical Cancer

The most common cause of cervical cancer is HPV, or human papillomavirus. HPV is a virus that is transmitted through sexual contact. It is a common virus, and it affects nearly 20 million Americans. That being said, there are a number of different types of HPV, and not all types of the human papillomavirus cause cancer. Some may cause genital warts, while other types may stay in the body producing no symptoms of disease. The major danger of the cancer causing type of HPV is that it can lay dormant in a woman’s body for years before causing any cancer to develop.

Aside from HPV, cervical cancer is predominantly linked to lifestyle, diet and environmental factors. Genetics appear to play a part as well, and women with a family history of cervical cancer may be at a 15% greater risk for developing the disease later in life.

The most common symptoms of cervical cancer are pelvic pain, unusual vaginal bleeding between menstrual periods, unusual vaginal discharges, bladder pain and pain during urination. Loss of appetite, sudden weight loss, and a pervasive feeling of fatigue can indicate advanced cervical cancer.

Prevention of Cervical Cancer

Since it is clear that one of the major causes of cervical cancer is HPV, which can be transmitted through sexual contact, one of the most effective forms of prevention is practicing safe sex or abstinence. This not only significantly lowers the risk for cervical cancer; it limits the chances of contracting any sexually transmitted diseases.

Women who smoke are at a higher risk for cervical cancer, because the toxins found in tobacco can be absorbed by the cervix. Smokers should quit immediately. It not only reduces the risk for cervical cancer, quitting smoking lowers the risk for the majority of cancers.

A healthy diet greatly reduces the risk of cancer in general and cervical cancer in particular. Women should make the transition to a vegan diet, rich in raw and organic fruits and vegetables. Organically grown garlic, and onions are rich in antioxidants that help to protect the body from free radicals that can cause cancer and other diseases. Foods that are rich in selenium, such as tomatoes, Brazil nuts, mushrooms, broccoli, bananas and asparagus, should also be added to the diet. Selenium also inhibits the creation of free radicals in the body, thereby reducing the risk for cervical cancer.

Cervical Cancer and the Importance of Exercise

Regular exercise has many health benefits, including protecting the body from cancer. Regular exercise helps to regulate blood pressure and insulin levels, while reducing body fat that can cause hormone levels to spike creating a welcome environment for cancer to develop. A regular routine of aerobic and anaerobic exercise, three to four times a week, can greatly reduce a woman’s risk for cervical cancer. Regular exercise also helps to support a strong immune system, healthy blood oxygen levels, and has been shown to combat anxiety and depression.

Cervical cancer can be a life threatening disease, and while survival rates are excellent for those that catch it early, prevention is still the best medicine. By taking these preventative measures, women can greatly reduce their chances of developing cervical cancer, and can ensure that they enjoy total health for years to come.

Mothers and the Lasting Benefits of Breastfeeding

Natural breast milk provides a number of significant health benefits for children, including fewer incidences of asthma, an overall decrease in the rates of childhood obesity and improved brain development. Breastfeeding helps children to develop stronger immune systems, while nurturing the natural bond between mother and child. The childhood benefits of breastfeeding are well documented, and more new mothers are taking this all natural approach to child rearing every year. What many may not realize, however, is that breastfeeding also offers distinct benefits for the mother. By breastfeeding, women are allowing their bodies to pursue the natural path to optimal health, both immediately following childbirth and for years to come.

Short Term Benefits of Breastfeeding

Immediately following childbirth women have an increased risk of postpartum hemorrhaging, but mothers who breastfeed can reduce that risk significantly. The natural suckling process causes the mother’s pituitary gland to release oxytocin, a hormone which signals the breasts to release milk for the baby. Oxytocin also initiates contractions in the uterus, which prevent postpartum hemorrhaging and begin the process of returning the woman’s uterus to a non-pregnant state. Bottle feeding mothers may receive synthetic oxytocin while in the hospital, but following their release they may be prone to an otherwise avoidable postpartum hemorrhage.

Breastfeeding also has a natural effect on a woman’s fertility, acting as a contraceptive to reduce the risk of pregnancy in the first six months or more following childbirth. This is the body’s way of ensuring the healthy recovery of the mother following childbirth, and of spacing out potential pregnancies. By breastfeeding, women also delay the return of the menstrual cycle, thereby reducing the risks of iron deficient anemia that can be common to new mothers.

The Long Term Benefits of Breastfeeding

Recent studies have shown that breastfeeding provides women with a number of long lasting health benefits. Remember, breastfeeding is a natural process and in many ways a mother’s body depends upon it to maintain optimal health. One of the biggest advantages of breastfeeding is that it helps women to lose the weight they’ve gained during pregnancy. The production of milk burns up to 500 calories per day. To put it in perspective, a new mother would require a full hour of active exercise to achieve the same result. By losing their ‘baby-weight’ quickly and naturally, new mothers can help to reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. This natural weight loss, coupled with low cholesterol and improved blood sugar levels, can also help women to avoid the early onset of heart disease.

One of the other major benefits of breastfeeding seems to be a reduced risk for certain reproductive cancers. Studies of non-breastfeeding women have indicated a greater potential for the development of ovarian and uterine cancers. Researchers believe this is due in part to the increased levels of estrogen found in mothers who did not breastfeed, as well as the greater repetition of ovulatory cycles. The most recent research into the correlation between breastfeeding and cancer has indicated that women who breastfed 6 to 24 months throughout their reproductive lifetime reduced their risk of cancer by up to 25%.

Breastfeeding and Osteoporosis

One of the major health risks for all women is osteoporosis. Women lose calcium while lactating, and it has long been thought that breastfeeding might increase a woman’s risk for osteoporosis. However, recent research has indicated quite the opposite. It appears that as children are weaned off of breast milk, the mother’s bone density returns to pre-pregnancy levels. Studies suggest that mothers who breastfeed their children actually reduce their risk for developing osteoporosis later in life.

Breastfeeding offers more than just physical benefits to the mother and child. It helps to build a natural bond between parent and infant, and promotes an overriding sense of calm in both. Breastfeeding is as natural as the reproductive process itself, and new mothers who choose to breastfeed are making the healthy choice for their children, and for themselves.

The Natural Prevention of Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer affecting women in the United States. Nearly 250,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, with more than 40,000 ultimately succumbing to the disease. Unfortunately, these statistics show no signs of abating. While cancer treatments continue to improve, the best medicine remains prevention. There can be no guarantees where anyone’s health is concerned, but there are a number of completely natural proactive steps that women can take to reduce their risk for developing breast cancer. These steps are easy to implement, and provide the best defense women have against this life threatening disease.

Common Risk Factors for Breast Cancer

There are a number of factors that place women at a greater risk for developing breast cancer. It is clear that genetics plays some role, and women from families with a history of cancer may be more prone to developing the disease. But genetics alone cannot explain the increasing number of breast cancer diagnoses over the last half a century. Environmental toxins, including pollutants, pesticides and industrial chemicals also contribute to the occurrence of all types of cancer. Whether or not a woman has given birth, and whether or not they choose to breast feed, also plays a part in increasing the risk for breast cancer. Few, if any, of these risk factors can be avoided, but there are ways to naturally enrich the body and make it an unwelcome host for cancer cells.

How Your Environment Affects Your Breast Cancer Risk

Cancer and all disease is a product of your environment, your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual environment. When you change these then you will change the course of any disease and be able to return to health. If you think your genes are going to give you cancer then you deny the latest in molecular biology research which shows that your genes do not dictate your health but the environment those genes are in that controls your health. This is empowering because you cannot change your genes but you most definitely can change your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual environment.

Reducing Your Breast Cancer Risk Through Lifestyle

Lifestyle choices play a key role in all cancer prevention. A healthy diet and regular exercise helps to maintain a healthy body, making it an inhospitable host for cancer. Women at risk for breast cancer should transition to a low fat diet, rich in organic fruits and vegetables. Cruciferous vegetables, such as cabbage, kale and broccoli, help to decrease the levels of estrogen in the body. Tumors require estrogen to grow, and by reducing estrogen levels in the body it is possible to deny cancer cells the ‘food’ they need to develop.

It is also important to maintain the body’s pH balance, the ratio of alkalinity and acidity, at optimal levels. Cancer thrives in an acidic environment, but struggles to survive in an alkaline environment. Maintaining a healthy pH balance is crucial to remaining cancer free. Women at risk for breast cancer should concentrate on a diet that is rich in alkalizing foods such as green leafy vegetables, sea vegetables, garlic, onions and lemon.

Exercise also plays a large part in cancer prevention. Regular exercise helps to maintain a healthy weight, reducing the risk of diabetes and heart disease which weakens the body and can lead to the development of cancer. Exercise also helps to oxygenate the blood, and to circulate that highly oxygenated blood to organs and tissue. Cancer cells perish in highly oxygenated environments, so regular exercise can help to keep the body cancer free.

Make Changes to Your Environment

Exposure to environmental toxins and pollutants has been linked to the development of not only breast cancer, but cancer in general. It is difficult to entirely avoid the toxins and chemicals that have become so prevalent in modern society, but there are some steps women can take to reduce their level of exposure. Avoid using commercial weed killers and chemical pesticides, and switch to wholly organic products. Minimize the use of dry cleaning. The chemicals used in the dry cleaning process are highly toxic and full of carcinogens. Use only all natural sun screens when exposed to the elements for long periods of time. Switch to wholly organic household cleaners whenever possible.

Breast cancer prevention should begin early, and mothers should teach their daughters at an early age the basic natural steps that can be taken to make the body inhospitable to cancer cells and tumors. It is impossible to avoid all of the risk factors associated with cancer, but by making some fundamental lifestyle changes, and by embracing a natural approach to their continued health, women can greatly reduce their chances of developing breast cancer.

Stress a Major Factor in Breast Cancer

What you do to your mind you do to your body. To prevent and if necessary overcome breast cancer or any cancer you must bring balance into your mind and emotions. Breast cancer can be triggered by stress especially traumatic loss of a spouse, child or partner. Although you cannot always control these factors you CAN control how you respond to these. The correct response in all things is to trust God and to know that you can do all things through Him who gives you strength. In life it is not about the things that happen to us but how we react to these things that show what we are made of. If we are created in God’s image then we need to become the sons and daughters that God created us to be. Be still and know that I AM God.

What You Do Affects The Future Of Your Unborn (and Born/Grown) Children

Mothers who eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy and while nursing may reduce the risk of breast cancer in their daughters by as much as 40 percent, a new study of mice found. The researchers also found that feeding female offspring a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids after weaning reduced their risk of breast cancer by 40 percent. And consuming omega-3 fatty acids through foods at any point in life can reduce the rate for breast cancer in female offspring significantly, said lead researcher W. Elaine Hardman, an assistant professor at Louisiana State University’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center.

However, eating omega-6 fats, which are commonly found in Western diets, could increase female offsprings’ risk of breast cancer.  Both omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids are essential for good health. But in Western diets, the amount of omega-6 fatty acids is much greater than omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-6 acids are found in meat, eggs, poultry, cereals, breads, baked goods, most vegetable oils and margarine, the researchers said. Sources of omega-3 fatty acids are found in flaxseed and canola oils, seeds and nuts, the highest found in hemp and flax seeds. “In mice genetically programmed to develop breast cancer, we found that if we fed omega-3 fatty acids to the mice, we could prevent them from developing cancer,” Hardman said.

Hardman’s team compared the rates for breast cancer in the offspring depending upon how much omega-6 fatty acids or omega-3 fatty acids they and their mothers consumed. All the mouse pups exposed only to omega-6 fatty acids — in the uterus, while nursing and after weaning — developed mammary gland tumors by six months after birth. However, less than 60 percent of the female offspring with diets rich in omega-3 fatty acids either in the uterus or after weaning developed mammary tumors by eight months. Hartman speculated that because omega-3 fatty acids reduce the amount of estrogen, which is important in mammary gland development, this helps reduce cancer risk. “Somehow changes are going on in the breast tissue of the mice before they’re born that makes a difference in their risk for developing breast cancer later on,” she said. “Does this prove the same is true in humans? By itself, no. But in the context of all we know about dietary fats, hormones and health outcomes in people, it is very suggestive,” said Dr. David L. Katz, associate clinical professor of public health at Yale University School of Medicine. Katz noted that cancer typically develops slowly, often over decades. So, tracing the root causes, or tracking down all the clues to prevention, can be a challenge. “In this case, mice are providing an important clue, and teaching a lesson I believe we should heed,” he said.

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec Comments on “What You Do Affects The Future Of Your Unborn Children”

This fascinating study shows how what you do as a parent affects the future of your unborn child on the positive side.  Your journey into total health of body, mind and spirit is first and foremost a personal journey of transformation into God’s image, and along the way as you are transformed, the frequency you resonate with will be the light that shines to all those around you (including your children) to entrain them to a higher level.  This applies spiritually, mentally and with this study can also be seen physically by reducing the risk of breast cancer by up to 40%. In practice we have also seen what parents do affects the future of their children at any age. Not only are you called by God to be a good steward of your children and to train them up in the ways of God but also to be the example that they would naturally want to model. When you look at your children what you are looking at is a reflection of yourself. If you like what you see then you have been doing a great job of not only raising and training but also modeling what you desire them to be.

Do not forget the most important part of parenting is to be the example (and this knows no age limit).

The role model, the one your children look up to and want to be like should be YOU! This is a big task but when you sit at the feet of God and let His Spirit teach you, guide you and empower you then all things become possible. Your children’s success in life are dependant upon how you raise them (in love or in law) and how you demonstrate those principles in your own life. This training and being the example to your children never stops no matter how old you or your children become. Let us share a story. One of our patients had a broken relationship with her daughter ten years ago and the two had not spoken since. Our patient went through our four month health program to transform herself in body, mind and spirit. While she was on the health program she attended a family picnic that she did not know her daughter was going to attend but expectedly showed up. The first words spoken out of her daughters mouth to her in ten years were these: “Mom I don’t know what you are doing for yourself but keep doing it”.  Their relationship was restored and healed not by the mother wanting the daughter to change but by the mother changing herself first. Parents it is never to late to change yourself and in doing so you will change your children as our patient so beautifully experienced.

Mother Passes Stress to Children

Pregnant women who were traumatized by witnessing the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center may have passed on a biological sign of stress to their unborn babies, scientists have stated.

Researchers found the women and their babies had reduced levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which is a sign someone has been affected by post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Low levels of cortisol have been observed in the children of Holocaust survivors, but researchers had put them down to living with a depressed parent or hearing stories about what had happened to them.

The latest study suggests however that a mother can pass on low cortisol levels to her unborn child, researchers at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and the University of Edinburgh in Scotland said.

“This shows that exposure to severe stress in pregnancy is associated not only with PTSD in the mothers but also with the biologic marker of it – low hormone levels in the saliva – in the offspring,” Professor Jonathan Seckl, of the University of Edinburgh, said.

Seckl said it was too early to tell if the children would suffer any ill effects. The researchers plan to follow up the children during their development.
In a study of 38 pregnant women Seckl and Dr Rachel Yehuda, of Mount Sinai School of Medicine, found lower than normal levels of cortisol in saliva samples from the women who suffered PTSD linked to the 9/11 attacks, and in their infants.

The mothers and their babies had lower levels of the hormone than women who did not develop PTSD following the tragedy. Even a year after the children’s birth, babies of stressed mothers had lower levels of cortisol than other children.

“The findings suggest that mechanisms for transgenerational transmission of biologic effects of trauma may have to do with very early parent-child attachments,” Yehuda said.

She added the effects of cortisol programing could even begin before birth.
-Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec Comments on Stress:
What you do to yourself you do to your unborn children. This study showed how stress is passed from mother to unborn baby. The stress was measured by levels of a stress hormone called cortisol. Women who had been traumatized by witnessing great tragedy not only had reduced levels of cortisol, a biological sign of stress, but also gave birth to children with lower than normal cortisol levels. The researchers did not know how this would potentially affect the growth and development of the children.

The message is this: What you do to yourself you do to your children—both unborn and born. The most powerful way you can impact your children lives is to change your life.

If you want your child to be at peace, filled with love and joy in their life journey, then you must be at peace and filled with love and joy in your life journey. The more you transform yourself into God’s image and likeness, the more they will be transformed. One of the most powerful ways to impact your children’s lives is change your own by living the Seven Basic Steps to Total Health™ everyday. Once again they are:

If you change your lifestyle, your child will model those changes. When you teach your children by example and out of love you will give them the tools, the ability to be all that God has called them to be in body, mind and Spirit.

Remember when the oxygen is necessary on the plane; they ALWAYS say “put your mask on first before you put your child’s mask on.” Let us learn an important lesson in life from this. What you do to yourself you are doing to your children.

If you see life as stressful, so will they. If you see life as beautiful, so will they. So choose wisely in this journey of life because it not only affects you but also the generations to come.

Excess Pounds May Raise Ovarian Cancer Risk

Being overweight in young adulthood or later in life may raise a woman’s risk of ovarian cancer, particularly if she’s never had children, researchers have found.

In a study of 2,110 women with and without ovarian cancer, researchers found that those who were relatively heavy, either in recent years or at the age of 18, were more likely than thinner women to develop the disease.

But the relationship between weight and ovarian cancer was strongest among women who’d never given birth. For them, cancer risk climbed in tandem with recent body mass index (BMI), a measure of weight in relation to height.

Among childless women, those who were obese in recent years had 2.5 times the risk of ovarian cancer compared with the thinnest women. The same pattern emerged when the researchers looked at the women’s weight gain since age 18, according to Dr. Julia Greer and her colleagues at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

The new findings suggest that in overweight women who’ve had no children, the effects of excess body fat and “incessant” ovulation combine to raise the risk of ovarian cancer, according to the study authors.

The findings offer yet another reason to maintain a healthy weight throughout life. And that goes for all women, whether they’ve had children or not, according to Dr. Greer.

According to American Cancer Society estimates, Greer noted, at least one third of all cancer deaths in the U.S. each year are attributable to excess weight and obesity.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on excessive pounds raise ovarian cancer risks.
This study can be summarized very simply that women that were obese had 2½ times greater risk of ovarian cancer compared to the thinnest women. These findings were stated in the Journal, Cancer. The mechanism behind this is excessive body fat which can raise levels of estrogen in the body.  Estrogen is a pusher driver hormone that increases cell production so this may feed ovarian tumor development. The research in the Journal, Cancer also stated that according to the American Cancer Society, estimates that at least 1/3 of all cancer deaths in the United States each year are attributable to excess of weight and obesity.  This is very important. SO how do we counter act this? You don’t counter act disease by focusing on disease. You do not counter act weight gain or obesity by focusing on your weight, the way you counter act all of the is by looking at the opposite. Instead of trying to get rid of the weight or the disease, the focus is 100% on getting health in body, mind and spirit. The more balanced the body is, the mind and emotions, the more the body is going to go into a natural weight for the body. And how do we do this? With the Seven Basic Steps to Total Health

When you live the 7 Basic Steps, day in and day out you will go to the ideal weight for your body type. So just to review, the earlier a person gets to bed and the more they sleep the more the metabolism balances and the less a person will gain weight. So a healing person is in bed between eight and nine and they are up by six. The next important factor is diet, most importantly we want to eat a living/raw plant based diet, which not only is lowest in calories but highest in nutrients for health and healing. This definitely decreases weight. Then exercise. You want to be doing 30 minutes of aerobic type or cardio vascular type exercise. Cellular exercise, rebounding cellular exercise being the best. This exercise should be done daily. These are three biggest factors in affecting health gain from a physical point of view. From a mental emotion point of view the most important factor is how a person sees themselves and what they see their purpose in life and are they fulfilling that purpose. The more a person is fulfilling the purpose for which God put in their heart the less they will turn to food for pleasure, because HE is their pleasure. The more they do not know what their purpose is, and are not receiving their pleasure from their purpose in life, and from their relationship with HIM who created them, the more they will seek pleasures outside and the most easily accessible pleasure for all Americans is food.

Body Acceptance Tied to Healthy Eating

Women who accept their bodies, flaws and all, are more likely to eat healthily or intuitively, new research shows. This suggests that women’s typical reasons for dieting — dissatisfaction with their bodies — may backfire.

“There is a lot of negative body talk among women; women think that they can best lose weight and feel better if they are first dissatisfied with their bodies,” Dr. Tracy Tylka told Reuters Health. “Rather, this research shows that adopting a positive body image is more likely to be associated with intuitive eating.”

Intuitive eaters don’t diet — they recognize and respond to internal hunger and fullness cues to regulate what and how much they eat, Tylka explained. Intuitive eating has three components: “unconditional permission to eat when hungry and whatever food is desired; eating for physical rather than emotional reasons; and reliance on internal hunger/fullness cues.”

Tylka, an assistant professor of psychology at Ohio State University’s Marion campus has conducted several studies on the concept of intuitive eating. In one study published in April involving 199 college-aged women, Tylka found that women who followed intuitive eating principles had a slightly lower body weight than women who did not.

“Intuitive eating was negatively associated with body mass, such that people who ate intuitively weighed less than people who dieted,” she said.

The studies found, among nearly 600 college women, that those with higher levels of appreciation and acceptance for their body were more likely to be intuitive eaters.

Intuitive eaters spend less time thinking about how their body appears to others and more time considering how their body feels and functions, Tylka observed. They “perceive the body as an agent of action rather than an object of attraction…focusing on how the body functions rather than its appearance,” according to Tylka.

Intuitive eating, Tylka’s found, is “positively associated with psychological well-being, such as self-esteem, positive emotions, adaptive coping, self-acceptance, optimism, and resilience in the face of stress.”

Intuitive eaters also reported receiving more positive messages from parents and others regarding their bodies.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on Body acceptance tied to healthy eating.
Interesting in this study was they compared the women who accept their bodies for “flaws and alls” they said, are more likely to eat healthy or intuitively. It also suggests that women typically eat or go on a diet because of dissatisfaction with their bodies usually do not lose the weight. So what the study showed was, intuitive eating has three components, unconditional, permission to eat when hungry and whatever food is desired. Now add a side note to this. Whatever food is desired is when you are really in tune with your body, the body will know what it needs. It doesn’t mean because I want ice cream that’s what I should eat, or because I want cookies, that’s what I should eat.

When you very in tuned with your body, you body will crave the things that are healthy for it, but common sense knows what those healthy things are. It’s a living/raw plant based diet and it’s a diet that is the void of harmful substances like refined sugars, and such. The second component was eating for physical rather than emotional reasons. The third was reliance on internal hunger and fullness cues. They didn’t just eat three times a day, they ate when they felt a need to eat. This was intuitive eating, and they felt to eat what their body was hungry for when they were in tune to their body, and it wasn’t just emotional eating or sugar cravings or wrong food cravings. And what this study published found that women who followed this intuitive eating had lower body weight that women who did not.

Interesting in this study is it’s basically just showing that when women lose weight because they are dissatisfied with their bodies, it’s almost always a fear factor. They’re eating out of fear of becoming more overweight and being even more dissatisfied with their body. Whereas, on the positive side, when a woman would eat intuitively, they are accepting their body for what it is, they’re not eating for their body, their eating just as the body would tell them. This is a much healthier way of eating, and there’s research studies to show a more significant weight loss. And that’s because they are not focusing on weight, they’re focusing on health. This is a very key point not only in weight loss but in total health. In total health when we focus on our health and our healing, instead of our sickness and disease, this, this promotes total health. So, you can extend it to any area of your life, or health. When we focus on health, when we focus on the positive and not the negative this will promote a much greater benefit in every area of our life.

This is focusing on health. This is the approach that we would take in all sickness and disease. First focus on health. So, if a person has cancer, the first focus is not, “I have to get rid of the cancer”, the first focus is “I have to be as healthy as God created me to be” and when I do the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health, and I remove all the blockages and become as healthy as I can be, then my body can naturally heal all diseases including cancer. What a beautiful way to look at life. To look at it from God’s point of view instead of our blocked, old nature view. Which is always in fear and always stressed and always looking at the negative. So again, the best way to lose weight is the best way to become healthy, the best way to live your life, which is just focus on all that makes health and being healthy in body, mind and spirit, and not focusing on the negativity or the disease or the sickness or the imbalance.

Hormone Therapy Ups Ovarian Cancer Risk

New research suggests that prolonged use of hormone therapy in postmenopausal women increases the risk of developing ovarian cancer.
“We’ve seen a growing body of evidence linking unopposed estrogen and estrogen-plus-progestin to an increased risk of ovarian cancer,” said study author James V. Lacey Jr., an epidemiologist with the National Cancer Institute. “There are still some outstanding questions, but this adds more data that there is a slightly increased risk of ovarian cancer among women who used [this] hormone therapy for long durations.”

Another study in the same publication, the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, found that high levels of natural sex hormones, including estrogen, were associated with an increased risk of breast cancer in premenopausal women.

Concerns about hormone replacement therapy (HRT) were initially raised by the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI), a landmark U.S. study involving 27,000 participants. Researchers halted the WHI study in 2002, after they found the regimen entailed more health risks — most notably an increased risk for breast cancer and stroke — than benefits.

The authors of the first study found that, among a group of almost 100,000 women aged 50 to 71, those with a hysterectomy who used estrogen alone for a decade or more had almost double the risk of ovarian cancer than those who received no HRT.

Women who had not undergone a hysterectomy and who used estrogen plus progestin in sequence or continuously for five or more years also had a higher risk, compared with women who used no HRT.

The authors of the second study looked at blood samples from 18,521 premenopausal women and found that women with high levels of a naturally occurring type of estrogen called estradiol during the pre-ovulation phase of their menstrual cycle had a higher risk of developing breast cancer.

A third study in the same issue of the journal found sad news for breast-cancer survivors: They have an increased risk of suicide for up to 30 years after diagnosis. The cumulative risk of suicide 30 years after a breast-cancer diagnosis was 0.2 percent, or 37 percent higher than the general population.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on hormone therapy ups ovarian cancer risk
This study just confirms what has been know when you throw off the bodies natural design the way God made it to work by putting hormones into it, which upsets the homeostasis or balance of the body and can increase the risk of cancer and all other types of diseases. So what they have shown definitively is that prolonged use of hormone therapy increases the risk of developing ovarian cancer. They also showed it increases the risk of producing breast cancer.

So, very simply, what you want to take home from these studies, is you don’t need to increase your risk of ovarian cancer and you do not need to increase your risk of breast cancer, you do not need to increase your risk of disease. You just have to live the life that God designed you to live which is to take medication only under emergency circumstances. 95-99% of all medications prescribed in this country are unnecessary. They are given for situations that not life threatening, they are not emergency, they are taken because people have not been taught and not been impressed upon a lifestyle that will keep them in total health, but they have gone a medical route to take a medication for everything that they don’t like, or every reason the body doesn’t work right.

So, if you eat the wrong food and it gives you headaches regularly, you don’t think about the diet, you think you just want to get rid of the headache so you take a headache medication. This is just ridiculous because a majority of the symptoms, conditions and diseases that people have can be very easily cleared up if they live the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health, they would not need to take medications practically never except under emergency circumstances. So the big message is don’t take drugs unless it is an emergency and only short term to overcome that emergency.

Also an interesting side note is in the third study in this research article, it found that breast cancer survivors, again these are ones that used chemotherapy that did make it, they have increased risk of suicide for up to thirty years after the diagnosis. Why? And they say that’s 37% percent higher than the general population. Why? Well there’s many reasons, but one of the reasons would be first of all, they were not proactive in their health care. They did what was told them to be done, they took a drug, they took chemotherapy, radiation. They were not taught a lifestyle, they did not heal themselves with natural methods, God designed methods. Instead they took the easy route, they took the fear route. The easy route taken because one is in fear route will always have long term consequences, which in this case led to increasing the risk of all types of mental/emotional disorders and increase the risk of suicide.

So, the answer is very simple, live the natural way.

Cola Raises Women’s Osteoporosis Risk

Cola may not be so sweet for women’s bones, according to new research that suggests the beverage boosts osteoporosis risk.

“Among women, cola beverages were associated with lower bone mineral density,” said lead researcher Katherine Tucker, director of the Epidemiology and Dietary Assessment Program at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University.

There was a pretty clear dose-response, Tucker added. “Women who drink cola daily had lower bone mineral density than those who drink it only once a week,” she said. “If you are worried about osteoporosis, it is probably a good idea to switch to another beverage or to limit your cola to occasional use.”

About 55 percent of Americans, mostly women, are at risk for developing osteoporosis, according to the National Osteoporosis Foundation.
In the study, Tucker’s team collected data on more than 2,500 participants in the Framingham Osteoporosis Study, averaging just below 60 years of age. The researchers looked at bone mineral density at three different hip sites, as well as the spine.

They found that in women, drinking cola was associated with lower bone mineral density at all three hip sites, regardless of age, menopause, total calcium and vitamin D intake, or smoking or drinking alcohol. Women reported drinking an average of five carbonated drinks a week, four of which were cola.

Bone density among women who drank cola daily was almost 4 percent less, compared with women who didn’t drink cola, Tucker said. “This is quite significant when you are talking about the density of the skeleton,” she said.

The reason may have to do with phosphoric acid in cola, which can cause leeching of calcium from bones to help neutralize the acid, Tucker said.
One expert agrees that women should reduce the amount of cola they drink.

“I would expect this finding,” said Dr. Mone Zaidi, director of the Mount Sinai Bone Program at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, in New York City. “It’s probably a caffeine-related problem.”

Women should limit their caffeine intake, Zaidi said. “Caffeine interferes with calcium absorption, which results in less bone formation,” he said.
American Journal of Clinical Nutrition

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on Cola Raises Women’s Osteoporosis Risk.
This research stated something that has been known in alternative healing circles for quite a number of years and what that is that soft drinks cause an increase of osteoporosis, they leach calcium out of the bones. Now as this study showed, it was one of two possible reasons why it does this. It does this number 1 because of the caffeine in the cola and as the study stated that caffeine affects calcium absorption. So, if there is caffeine going into the body what will happen is the body will not be able to absorb the calcium properly. The other possibility was due to the phosphoric acid in the cola, cola being acidic, it leaches calcium from the bones to neutralize the acid. We can expand this on saying it’s not just cola, its sugar, it’s anything that is acidic to the body.

Really osteoporosis comes from two reasons. These are the reasons people get osteoporosis. Number one is because they are putting acidic substances into the body. The body is alkaline, the blood is alkaline and it must maintain its alkalinity or you will die. So, whatever is acid that goes into the body the body has to buffer the acid and it does that most conveniently by puling calcium out of the bones, because calcium is alkaline and it alkalizes the acid, it neutralizes it.So, it’s not just cola we’re talking about, it’s all things that turn into acid into the body and let’s state them right now. Animal products, this is meat, chicken, fish, this is eggs, dairy products, this is all animal products are acidic in the body. This is refined starches, flours and sugars. Of course cola having tremendous amount of refined sugar is going to be acidic on the body, but so is bread, so is pasta, so is all refined flours and sugars. So the things that we have to eliminate from our diet are refined sugars, refined flours, these breads, these pastas, these things that turn into sugar that are acidic in the body and of course the animal products which are highly acidic. The most acidic substance that is put into the body is refined sugar, but then right after that is the acidicness of animal products and refined starches.

The other interesting note is caffeine. Caffeine inhibits the absorption of calcium, affects calcium metabolism. This is important because we want to make sure the rule for the health is always, don’t do something that’s good for one thing and bad for another thing. It has to be good for all things. Caffeine is found in coffee, it’s found in cola’s, it’s found in teas, it’s found in chocolate, it’s found in all these things. So we don’t want to put caffeine into the body because first of all it over stimulates the adrenal glands, which puts you into adrenaline stress mode, which makes the body more acidic which also makes the body kick into a fight, flight response, which in doing that it shuts down the immune system and the digestive system which if that’s maintained for any length of time is definitely going to lead to inflammation and disease.

So you do not want to put caffeine into the body and you do not want to put anything that is acidic into the body. Of course that is sugar, but that is starches, that’s breads, that’s pastas that’s meat, that’s beef, chicken, fish, eggs, dairy products all of it. What’s the other thing that causes osteoporosis? The other thing that causes osteoporosis is lack of muscle contraction. So when you don’t use your muscles enough and don’t put stimulus on those bones by the tugging of the muscles and tendons on the bones, the bones will leach calcium. This is well documented when any astronaut goes into space they lose calcium out of their bones if they don’t exercise intensely because they are in a zero gravity situation where the body is not being used, it’s not being stressed, the muscles are not being contracted under the bones. This is why typically women are more osteoporotic than men, because in history men did more physical heavy lifting labor than women did. Women did very intense labor but it wasn’t as muscular intense to build those muscle and pull on those bones. So this is why women in this day and age are more tendency to be osteoporosis than men. Men and women both get it more from diet from eating acid foods which have to be alkalized which pulls the calcium out of the bone, but typically men have a denser bone structure due to the muscle contraction and heavier work load that they have had, or it’s just in their more genetic nature to have more of a heavier muscle mass.

So, how do we affect this? Live the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health each and every day of our life and in those 7 Basic Steps we make sure that the food is living raw plant based in origin which is not acidic at all. It is alkaline and maintains the alkalinity of the body and does not pull any calcium out of the bones.
