New Research Confirms the Power of Omega-3 Fatty Acids in the Fight Against Cancer

Omega-3Conventional treatments for cancer can be almost as frightening as the disease itself. Chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation can have devastating effects on the body, and are often as life threatening as the cancer they are being used to treat.

Many cancer patients are looking for alternatives to conventional treatments and therapies, and are investigating all natural approaches to the prevention and treatment of this dread disease. For years, proponents of natural healing have championed the power and versatility of Omega-3 fatty acids in the fight against numerous diseases, including cancer. Recent studies, both in America and abroad, are just now coming to the same conclusions regarding the power of Omega-3s, and are verifying that Omega-3 fatty acids can play a vital role in the prevention and treatment of many different types of cancer.

What Exactly are Omega-3 Fatty Acids?

Omega-3s are essential fatty acids that the human body needs in order to maintain its total health potential. They are not manufactured by the body, and must be obtained through good nutrition and/or natural supplements. There are several different types of Omega-3s, all of which offer varying degrees of health benefits. EPA and DHA, found in algae (not fish because of the heavy metal toxicity), appear to be the most beneficial of the Omega-3s. ALA fatty acids, found in flax-seed oil, green leafy vegetables, and some vegetable oils, also have positive effects on the body’s metabolism and immune system. The full range of Omega-3s have been linked to a reduced risk for a number of adverse health conditions including cardiovascular disease, asthma, dementia, and cancers of the breast, prostate and colon.

Omega-3 and Cancer Prevention and Treatment

Omega-3 fatty acids help to protect the cells of the body, safe guarding them from the damages caused by oxidative stress and free radicals. Omega-3s also help provide the energy cells need to replicate and repair themselves. Damaged, or compromised, cells have a greater potential for cancer, but by keeping the cells healthy it is possible to greatly reduce the risk of cancerous growths. Recent studies have shown the Omega-3 fats inhibit the proliferation of cancerous cell lines by as much as 20 to 60 %.

Omega-3s have also been shown to have a positive effect on existing cancers. It would appear that Omega-3s block the growth of blood vessels to cancerous tumors, in effect starving the tumor and inhibiting its growth. Conventional medicine has developed a number of drug therapies to achieve the same result, although they all come with dangerous side effects. The most recent research into the use of Omega-3s in cancer treatment has shown that cancer patients taking Omega-3s saw a definite reduction in the size of their existing tumors without any of the unwanted side effects associated with conventional treatments.

Adding Omega-3 to Your Diet

Since the body does not manufacture Omega-3, it must be obtained through a healthy diet. There are a number of good sources for Omega-3 fatty acids that are easily added to anyone’s nutritional plan. Flax-seed, hemp seeds and walnuts are all prime sources of Omega-3s.

For those who find it difficult to get the desired amounts of Omega-3 fatty acids through diet, all natural supplements can be taken. Omega-3 supplements are typically derived from algae are the safest, and it is important to choose the supplement carefully.

The health benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids have been making the news for decades, and it seems that each new research project gives people more reasons to add them to their daily dietary routines. In addition to promoting a strong immune system, and reducing the risks of cardiovascular disease, Omega-3s also play a vital role in the prevention and successful treatment of cancer.

Selenium – A Powerful Tool in the Fight Against Cancer

Selenium is a naturally occurring mineral which is essential to the total health of the human body. Existing in two forms, organic and inorganic, selenium plays a vital role in protecting the body from infection and cellular damage. It is also a key component in maintaining healthy thyroid hormone levels, and in DNA synthesis. While the general importance of selenium has been recognized for years, recent studies are showing that it has a profound effect on the prevention and treatment of many diseases, including most forms of cancer. Unfortunately, like many nutritional building blocks, the majority of Americans fail to get their the daily recommended allowance on a regular basis. Most American adults are only getting 60 to 100 micrograms of selenium from their diet, falling far short of the recommended daily allowance of 200 micrograms. This deficiency leaves the body open to a wide range of diseases and disorders, including cancer.

Selenium and Cancer

Because so many adults fail to get the recommended daily dosage of selenium from dietary sources, research has been ongoing in the effects of selenium supplements on human health. Studies are showing that selenium supplements, taken in conjunction with vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene actively work to block the creation of free radicals within the body. These free radicals can lead to damage at the DNA level, causing cell mutation and cellular damage that can lead to cancer. These same studies are showing that selenium also helps to prevent damaged cells from reproducing. In effect, maintaining optimal selenium levels in the body forces cancerous, and precancerous, cells to die before they can multiply. Basically stopping the cancer before it starts. The research indicates that selenium is effective in the prevention of a number of different cancers, but most particularly breast cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer and cancers of the stomach and esophagus.

Sources of Selenium

The best source of selenium is through a healthy diet. It can be found in a wide range of foods, including mushrooms, asparagus, garlic, tomatoes, onions, broccoli and various grains. Unfortunately, the levels of selenium in these foods is largely dependent on the mineral make-up of the soil in which they are grown. Crops grown in soil that is rich in volcanic ash, or irrigated with seawater, typically show higher levels of selenium. Consequently, selenium levels in crops can vary greatly according to region. For example, crops grown in the western United States generally show higher levels than crops grown in the eastern part of the county.

To optimize the dietary sources of selenium, it is best to stick to organically grown fruits and vegetables whenever possible. Organically grown foods have been shown to contain higher levels of selenium, as well as the vitamin E and beta-carotene that the body needs to maximize the selenium’s effectiveness. A top tip for adding selenium to the diet is Brazil nuts. One Brazil nut contains as much as 120 micrograms of selenium, more than half of the recommended daily allowance. But remember, the Brazil nuts should be organically grown and as fresh as possible.

Selenium as a Supplement

Even with a wholly organic diet it can be difficult for some adults to get their recommended daily allowance of selenium. In these cases it may be necessary to boost selenium levels by taking all natural nutritional supplements. As we have seen, selenium works in conjunction with vitamins C and E, as well as beta-carotene, so any daily nutritional supplements should include all of these in order to receive the full benefits.

Most people fail to get their recommended daily allowance of selenium, leaving their body’s at risk for developing a variety of different cancers. But by adding more selenium rich foods to the diet, and by taking all natural supplements when necessary, it is possible to greatly reduce the risk for cancer in otherwise healthy adults. To maintain the body’s total health, and to increase your overall well-being, consider adding selenium to your diet.

Magnesium Deficiency – A Growing Epidemic

Magnesium is a vital micro-mineral that is essential to the total health of the human body. It is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body, and is instrumental in more than 300 metabolic functions necessary to human health. Unfortunately, more than half of all American adults are suffering from a magnesium deficiency. The modern western diet, with its reliance on unnatural processed foods, has created a near epidemic of people suffering from a deficiency of this vital mineral. Low levels of magnesium in the blood stream can lead to a host of conditions, and left unchecked can present a serious health risk.

What Magnesium Does for Your Body

Magnesium is an extremely versatile mineral, and it plays many roles in the total health of the body, including:

  • Regulating blood pressure
  • Maintaining optimal insulin levels
  • Strengthening bones and preventing osteoporosis
  • Preventing strokes and congestive heart failure
  • Preventing kidney stones
  • Lowering bad cholesterol levels
  • Reduces the instances of migraine headaches
  • Promotes healthy circulation
  • Protects against asthma and emphysema

Causes and Symptoms of Magnesium Deficiency

A magnesium deficiency is most commonly the result of poor diet and nutrition. As highly processed foods force fresh fruits and vegetables off the national dinner table, more and more people are suffering from unhealthy nutritional imbalances. In rare cases, magnesium deficiency can have other causes such as kidney disease, Crohn’s disease, diabetes, cancer or alcohol abuse.

Unfortunately, magnesium deficiency often goes undiagnosed. More often than not the symptoms end up being attributed to an unconnected disease, and patients receive treatment that does not address the very real underlying nutritional cause. Because magnesium is vital to a wide range of bodily functions, the symptoms of chronic deficiency are many and varied. The most common symptoms include:

  • Insomnia
  • Dizziness
  • Muscle weakness and fatigue
  • Nausea or loss of appetite
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Heart palpitations
  • Depression, anxiety, and/or a loss of mental agility
  • High blood pressure
  • Headache, backache, and muscle soreness

Treating Magnesium Deficiency

While a magnesium deficiency can be the cause of many health concerns, it can easily be corrected by making some key lifestyle changes. The first step is to eliminate the highly processed foods that make up so much of the American diet. Foods that are full of refined sugars and flour have had the magnesium removed, and provide little if any nutritional value. Transitioning to a largely vegetarian diet, with an emphasis on organically grown fruits and vegetables, is the first step to restoring magnesium levels to normal. Dark green leafy vegetables, such as kale and spinach, are good sources of magnesium. Likewise, beans, lentils, and avocados provide a rich source of natural magnesium. Adding probiotics to the diet will help the body absorb magnesium, maximizing the effect of any dietary changes.

Over the counter magnesium supplements can be taken by those who find it difficult to get the proper amounts from their diet. However, these should be taken sparingly and carefully monitored. The body welcomes natural sources of magnesium, but man made supplements can lead to an overabundance of magnesium in the blood stream. This can lead to an overdose, causing nausea, cramps and diarrhea. Diet should always be the preferred method of boosting magnesium levels in the body, and it is important to observe the recommended daily allowances. The recommended daily allowance of magnesium for women aged 14 and up ranges from 320 mg to 360 mg, while the recommended daily allowance for men in the same age group ranges from 400 mg to 420 mg.

Magnesium plays a vital role in keeping the body healthy and operating at optimal efficiency. When magnesium levels are low, the body is more likely to suffer from chronic disorders. While magnesium deficiency is a widespread problem in American adults, treatment is relatively easy. Through diet and nutrition it is possible to restore the body’s magnesium levels and maintain the body’s optimal health.

Intermittent Fasting and the Prevention of Cancer

Fasting has a long tradition in the ancient world, and has been used in both religious ceremonies and as a way to maintain the body’s total health. It seems that what our ancient ancestors understood we are only just beginning to rediscover. Today, the value of periodic fasting as a way of detoxifying the body has been largely accepted by the natural health community, and is beginning to make inroads amongst the general public. But recent studies have shown that intermittent fasting may do more than rejuvenate the cells and tissues of the body. It would appear that fasting also plays a vital role in the prevention of cancer.

Caloric Restriction and Cancer

Caloric restriction is one of the most basic techniques used to improve the overall health of the body. Obesity is a major concern in the West, and it has been proven to be at the root of many chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. By restricting calories, or dieting, we can reduce excess weight and better maintain a healthy body-mass index. This is obviously nothing new, and people use caloric restriction for weight loss as a matter of course. But recent studies have shown that restricting our daily caloric intake by as little as 25% can have a profound effect on the body at a cellular level.

The cells of the body use the food we eat as energy for self-repair and reproduction. When we over-eat we are, in effect, supplying too much fuel to our body’s cells. What happens then is that our cells have a surplus of energy that cannot be stored, but must be used immediately. Too often, this forces the cell to reproduce before it has finished any necessary self-repair. This leads to abnormal cell growth, and the potential for precancerous and cancerous tumors. In a very real sense, our tendency towards obesity is making our bodies the ideal breeding ground for cancer.

Intermittent Fasting

Caloric restriction on a daily basis can be difficult for many people. Dieting demands that we not only reduce calories, but we must also deprive ourselves of certain favorite foods. It can also be difficult to maintain a diet in the work-a-day world where meals are not always prepared at home. Dieting can become a chore that we would just as soon shrug off as continue with. Intermittent fasting holds the answer, and without the daunting prospect of a never ending dieting regimen.

When we talk about intermittent fasting there are two basic techniques to consider:

  • Daily Intermittent Fasting – This is the most basic of techniques, and involves setting a strict daily eating schedule. Sixteen hours of fasting followed by an eight hour window for meals. For example, one might fast from midnight to noon, and allow for meals from noon to eight in the evening. People using this technique should closely monitor their weekly caloric intake. Because you are cutting a meal or two out of your day, it’s easy to get too few calories in a week.
  • Intermittent Weekly Fasting – This is one of the best ways to test the waters of intermittent fasting. This is an occasional fast that is used more for promoting the body’s total health than for weight management. This is a 24 hour fast that can be performed once a week, or once a month for beginners. The most common technique is to select a day, and to begin your fast at noon, continuing the fast until noon of the next day. This schedule has the added benefit of including the time you spend sleeping as part of your fasting hours.

Fasting on a regular basis can have a number of significant health benefits beyond the simple restriction of calories. Intermittent fasting has been shown to help alleviate the symptoms of allergies, arthritis and many digestive disorders. Research has also demonstrated that periodic fasting can play a vital role in the prevention of variety diseases, not the least of which is cancer. What our ancestors understood about periodic fasting is quickly becoming recognized as one of the most successful all natural techniques for maintaining the body’s total health.

Are You Suffering from Vitamin B12 Deficiency?

It is estimated that as much as 40% of the general population suffers from vitamin B12 deficiency. That number may be even higher, as the symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency are often mistaken for other illnesses. Vitamin B12 is essential to maintaining a healthy body. It helps to regulate metabolism, and is vital to the production of red blood cells which carry oxygen through the bloodstream to the body’s tissues and organs. Vitamin B12 is also required for the proper functioning of the brain and central nervous system. B12 deficiency often goes undiagnosed, and many people suffer chronic symptoms without ever realizing the true cause. Fortunately, these symptoms can be alleviated with a few changes in diet, and the use of vitamin supplements.

What Causes B12 Deficiency?

Decreased levels of vitamin B12 can have a number of different causes, chief among them poor nutrition. But there are also a variety of health conditions which inhibit the body’s absorption of B12. Autoimmune disorders such as Grave’s disease and Lupus can restrict the body’s ability to absorb B12, as can certain intestinal disorders such as Crohn’s disease and celiac disease. People who consume large amounts of alcohol on a regular basis are also highly prone to developing a B12 deficiency.

Common Symptoms of B12 Deficiency

One of the reasons that vitamin B12 deficiency is so often misdiagnosed, is that the symptoms are common to a wide range of other disorders. A mild deficiency may not manifest any symptoms, but as the problem worsens the following symptoms may begin to appear:

  • fatigue and muscle weakness
  • light headedness
  • rapid or irregular heartbeat
  • bleeding gums, slow healing wounds and an over susceptibility to bruising
  • irregular bowel movements and unexpected weight loss

In extreme cases, where the B12 deficiency has gone unchecked, nerve cells within the body can be damaged resulting in more severe symptoms including:

  • tingling or numbness in the extremities
  • depression and sudden mood swings
  • memory loss and mental disorientation

As you can see, all of these symptoms are easily attributable to other common illnesses. It is not unusual for a patient to be under treatment for one disease, when in fact they have been suffering from a simple deficiency of B12.

Treating Vitamin B12 deficiency

Fortunately, correcting a vitamin B12 deficiency isn’t difficult. Depending on the underlying cause of the deficiency, it can generally be treated through diet and supplements. For those who don’t get the recommended daily allowance of B12 from their diet, B12 can be taken in the form of tablets, slow release patches, or sub-lingual drops.

In extreme cases, where the deficiency is caused by disease, regular intramuscular B12 injections may be necessary. These are available by prescription only, and like insulin can be administered at home by the patient.

The Health Benefits of B12

We have seen that the symptoms of B12 deficiency can be far reaching, and in some cases particularly intense. Left unchecked, a B12 deficiency can lead to a host of more serious conditions. Maintaining healthy levels of B12 can reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering the homocysteine in the blood. Homocysteine is an amino acid that has been linked to an increased risk for heart disease in otherwise healthy individuals. A healthy B12 level also reduces the risk for certain cancers. B12 deficiency has been linked to abnormal cell growth in women diagnosed with cervical cancer and cancer of the uterus. More recent studies have also drawn a direct correlation between extended vitamin B12 deficiency and the early onset of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Vitamin B12 is essential for maintaining the total health of the body, and a prolonged deficiency can lead to a wide range of disorders. Fortunately, as common as this deficiency has become, it can be easily treated. If you think you may be suffering from a B12 deficiency, speak to your holistic healthcare provider for help devising a treatment plan to put your health back on track.

Vitamin D Deficiency Can Lead to Increased Health Risks

Vitamin D Deficiency Can Lead to Increased Health RisksWe were all taught in school that vitamin D builds strong bones and teeth. While it definitely plays a role in building strong bones, researchers are finding that it also plays an integral role in the total health of the human body. People with a vitamin D deficiency are at an increased risk for a variety of conditions, including type-1 and type-2 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, cardiovascular disease and cancer. A prolonged lack of vitamin D has also been linked to Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in older adults.

Symptoms of Vitamin D Deficiency

Diagnosing vitamin D deficiency can be difficult without a blood test. The symptoms can be subtle, and tend to be easily dismissed. The most common outward symptoms are bone pain, generally along the spine and rib cage, and muscle fatigue or muscle spasms. Vitamin D deficiency can also manifest itself in a disruption of sleep patterns, leading to bouts of insomnia, and loss of visual acuity. Understandably, these symptoms are commonly dismissed as typical aches and pains, or general irregularity. However, it is estimated that nearly 60% of Americans are suffering from some degree of deficiency, so it is important to follow up on these symptoms if they become more frequent.

The Causes of Vitamin D Deficiency

There are number of major causes of vitamin D deficiency. Diet obviously plays a part, but personal habits are also a factor. The body needs sunlight to make vitamin D. Our modern lifestyles tend to prevent us from getting out into the sun, which deprives the body of the energy it needs to create and activate its store of vitamin D. The increased use of sunscreen also inhibits the body’s ability to make and utilize vitamin D. While many people are concerned with preventing skin cancer, the body does need a certain amount of pure exposure to sunlight to keep it healthy.

Some physical conditions can result in a vitamin D deficiency. The kidneys are required to convert vitamin D to its active form. As people age, or their kidney function becomes impaired, they are more likely to develop a vitamin D deficiency. Certain disorders affecting the digestive tract, such as Crohn’s Disease or Celiac Disease, can inhibit the intestine’s ability to absorb vitamin D from the diet. Even body weight plays a part in the absorption of vitamin D, and people who are clinically obese are more prone to a deficiency.

Treatments for Vitamin D Deficiency

There are a few simple treatments for people suffering from vitamin D deficiency. Obviously, the first and best source is through a healthy diet. But as we have seen, with nearly 60% of Americans suffering from a vitamin D deficiency, diet is not the only answer. Regular exposure to natural sunlight is necessary to create active vitamin D in the bloodstream. Fifteen to thirty minutes a day, preferably in the morning before the sunlight becomes too intense, is recommended. For people who are housebound, or who live in the extreme northern latitudes, artificial sunlight can be substituted. It is also recommended that people suffering from a vitamin D deficiency take an oral supplement. Vitamin D can easily be found in health food stores around the country.

Vitamin D is essential for maintaining the total health of the body, and a deficiency can lead to many serious conditions and diseases. Fortunately, as common as this deficiency has become, it can be easily treated. If you think you may be suffering from deficiency, speak to your holistic physician an ask to be tested.

Vitamin D plays a large role in the total health of the body, and a deficiency can lead to a variety of disorders. Fortunately, correcting a vitamin D deficiency can be done naturally and with a few simple lifestyle change such as adding a few supplements to the diet and spending some time in God’s own sunshine.

Vitamin E from Seeds Kills Cancer Cells

Vitamin E from seeds, but not supplements, might halt the growth of prostate and lung cancer cells, scientists at Purdue University reported.

Walnuts, pecans, sesame seeds, as well as sesame oils, have gamma-tocopherol, which kills human prostate and lung cancer cells in lab cultures. The vitamin’s presence interrupts the synthesis of certain fatty molecules called sphingolipids in the cancer cells but leaves healthy human prostate cells unaffected.

The compound is not found in manufactured vitamin supplements, the scientists said. Supplements contain only alpha-tocopherol, a different form of vitamin E that alone does not have anti-cancer properties.

– National Academy of Science.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec Comments on Vitamin E from seeds

The moral of the story is this–God made is always far better than man made.  Vitamin E from sesame seeds kills cancer cells in prostate and lung cancer in lab cultures.  Supplemental Vitamin E does not kill the cancer cells.

Why is this so?  Because a seed is the container of life which has not only the most natural, absorbable vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals but also, if it is not heated/cooked, it contains the two most powerful components of food–bioelectricity and enzymes.  Both are critical for life, health and healing.  This can be seen when they feed baby cows cooked (pasteurized) milk.  The baby cows die in 30 days.  When heat is applied over 105 degrees Fahrenheit, it destroys all enzyme activity and bioelectricity.  So the best choice is always plant food that is living/raw (uncooked).  How many animals eat cooked, bioelectrically devoid, enzymeless, dead food–only two.  Your dogs and cats and they get the same diseases you do.

Rocket Fuel Chemical Found in Mothers’ Milk

A toxic chemical used in rocket fuel was found in virtually every sample taken in a new study of nursing mothers’ milk.

The multistate study by Texas Tech University researchers, published, found that perchlorate levels in breast milk samples were on average five times higher than those detected in dairy milk pulled from grocery stores.

Perchlorate has been linked to thyroid ailments, and is considered particularly dangerous to children.

NBC News

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec comments on Rocket Fuel Chemical Found in Mothers’ Milk:

What all these studies show is simply this. We have and continue to poison and toxify our world. The results are that we are poisoning and toxifying ourselves. Scientific research has stated that up to 75% of cancer is caused by toxins and chemical exposure. This is affecting adults, children and even unborn children in utero.

A recent study showed that 33 chemicals that promote breast cancer formation have been isolated in common house dust.

Also, its important to understand that as you eat up the food chain (animal products including meat, chicken, fish, eggs, dairy products, cheese, yogurt and butter, you concentrate the chemicals and toxins you are taking into your body 16 times greater than eating non-organic plant products. And up to 1000 times greater than organic plant products.

So what can you do to minimize chemicals and toxins being absorbed into the body?

1. Practice deep diaphragm breathing. You detoxify your body 70% through breathing, 20% through your skin, 7% through your urine and 3% through your bowel.

2. Drink distilled water that has been filtered after distillation. This is the cleanest and purest water on the planet.

3. Eat a living/raw uncooked organic plant diet. This keeps your toxic exposure to a minimum.

4. Do a bowel detoxification program and follow up with an ongoing daily bowel detoxification.

5. Do a liver detoxification program and follow up with ongoing daily liver detoxification. Your liver is the most toxic and overworked organ in your body. When it is overburdened, the complete body becomes generally toxic, decreasing the immune system function, opening the door to infection, cancer and autoimmune disease. When the liver cannot keep up with incoming chemicals and toxins, they spill over and cause inflammation and cell death of any and all organs, glands, tissues or body parts. This opens the door to nearly all disease. This is the critical function the liver plays.

The liver is the most important detoxifying organ and immune maintenance organ.

6. Take liver maintenance daily, 3-6 caps two times per day.

7. Take liver detox tea 2-4 cups per day.

8. Do a kidney detoxification program.

9. Do a blood detoxification program with Blood Detox Formula and follow up with TRMA (Blood Purifying Enzyme) and VSCLR (Blood Purifying Enzyme) enzymes, 4 caps 3 times per day for three months.

10. Do cellular/lymphatic exercise daily. This is done on a rebounder along with deep diaphragm breathing.

Diet, Exercise Make Dramatic Risk Reduction for Disease in 6 Weeks

Six weeks of simple changes in diet and exercise start to make dramatic reductions in risk for diseases like diabetes, cancer or heart disease, researchers report.
Researcher Steven Aldana, a Brigham Young University professor of exercise science, and his team studied 337 volunteers — all residents of Illinois and ranging from 43 to 81 years of age — participated in a 40-hour educational course over four weeks.
People experienced significant reductions in body fat, cholesterol levels and blood pressure when they spent just 30 minutes a day on cardiovascular exercise and adopted a diet emphasizing unrefined foods like grains, legumes and fresh fruits and vegetables, Aldana reported.
“This is not a diet, not a trend, not a fad that will go away,” he said. “It’s adopting a nutritious way of eating and exercise that causes very important positive changes in your body’s health in a short period of time.”
-Journal of the American Dietetic Association.
Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec Comments: Diet and Exercise:
What this study shows is the plain and simple truth if we follow the basics of health, we will become healthy. In just 6 weeks of eating a plant based diet and getting 30 minutes of daily cardiovascular exercise the people experienced significant reductions of body fat, cholesterol and blood pressure. This is in just six weeks of doing only part of two of the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health. Can you imagine what their health would be transformed into if people did the complete 7 Basic Steps to Total Health for not six weeks but for the rest of their life!  Also do not forget that any alternative cancer treatment should address diet and exercise.
The take home message is this: Do not put off until tomorrow what can transform your health and life today! Start it TODAY!
I like what the lead researcher says in the article. “This is not a diet, not a trend, not a fad that will go away”. This is the way God intended us to live to be in total health of body, mind and spirit.
In these days of so many fad diets, isn’t it time you got back to basics—the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health?

Vegetarian Diet Lowers Blood Pressure

Vegetarians tend to have lower blood pressure than the general population, but it hasn’t been clear whether their diet or their lifestyle guards them against hypertension.
A review of previously published studies shows that diet provides the protection. “It’s the diet itself, and it is clearly the diet of choice for people who want to get their blood pressure under control,” said Dr. Neal D. Barnard, president and founder of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and co-author of the report. Barnard, an M.D. and a nutritionist, concluded that a person who suffers from hypertension and has yet to switch to a vegetarian diet is “really trying to fight their condition with one arm tied behind their back.”
About 65 million American adults have high blood pressure, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Hypertension is often called the “silent killer” because it usually has no symptoms but leads to increased risk for heart disease, congestive heart failure, stroke and kidney failure. Barnard and committee nutritionist Susan Berkow analyzed 80 scientific studies, including observational studies of individuals on vegetarian diets compared with non-vegetarians and randomized, controlled trials in which outcomes of people who switch to a plant-based diet were compared with control subjects.
Some of the best observational data, according to the report, come from studies involving Seventh-Day Adventists, who advocate an alcohol-free, tobacco-free, vegetarian lifestyle.  One study involving California Adventists found that vegetarians have about half the prevalence of hypertension compared to non-vegetarian Adventists. When hypertensives were defined as those taking medication intended to reduce their blood pressure, a nearly threefold difference in the prevalence of hypertension was seen between the groups.
Overall, the randomized controlled trials included in the review found that blood pressure is lowered when animal products were replaced with vegetable products in both people with normal blood pressure and those who are hypertensive. To understand the blood-pressure-lowering effects of a plant-based diet, the authors examined changes in body weight and intake of specific food groups and nutrients.
Studies show that vegetarians tend to be slimmer, on average, which may help explain their lower incidence of hypertension. A vegetarian diet also is significantly lower in saturated fat, reducing the viscosity, or thickness, of the blood. Blood becomes “less like oil, more like water,” Barnard explained. And because vegetarian diets are generally high in vegetables, people who follow this diet consume more potassium than those who eat a diet of meat and vegetables. The analysis cites two reviews involving a total of 52 randomized clinical trials showing potassium supplementation significantly lowered blood pressure in people with normal and elevated blood pressure.
Barnard hopes the review will prompt more doctors to recommend a vegetarian diet. Many are reluctant to do because they fear that patients won’t stick with it, but there’s no reason to believe patients would be less likely to go vegetarian than to comply with other diets, he said.
“They may not hit the mark 100 percent, but they’d do much better if a doctor recommended it,” he said.
-Nutrition Reviews.
Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec comments on Vegetarian Diet Lowers Blood Pressure:
There is no question about what diet is best—there never has been. As this study shows, when a plant based diet is adopted, blood pressure decreases. There are many reasons for this but let us look at three of them.
1.    Weight loss
2.    Thinner blood
3.    Potassium to sodium ratio increases
Weight Loss: It has been seen in every study that when a plant based diet high in vegetables is consumed, people lose weight. Since weight is a major stress factor in increasing the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer, it just is common sense to eat a plant based diet to reduce your weight and your risk of all disease.
Thinner Blood: Blood must move at a high speed to keep you healthy. The faster the blood moves, the more oxygen and nutrients you get into the cells and the more waste products and toxins you get out of the cells. The average American, because of their high animal based diet, have blood “sludge”. This means their blood is too thick causing it to move slower through the blood vessels and also causing a decrease in oxygen and nutrients into the cells and waste products and toxins out of the cells. Let us use this analogy. If your blood speed was a highway, the speed for total health would be 700 miles per hour whereas the average American’s speed would be around 60 miles per hour. How do you increase the speed of the blood? Thin it out with an exclusive living/raw plant based diet. How do you clog it up? Thicken it with a diet of meat, chicken, fish, eggs, milk, butter and cheese. The choice is yours on how fast you want to drive on the highway to Total Health.
Potassium to Sodium Ratio:   The ideal ratio of potassium to sodium in a person with the highest level of health is 5:1. The average animal product consuming American has the reverse ratio of 5:1 sodium to potassium. So, how do you get your ratio to the ideal 5:1 potassium to sodium ratio? Eat a vegetable based diet. Vegetables have a 5:1 potassium ratio so when you consume them in high quantities in the raw, uncooked state they bring balance, healing and health to your body.

Milk is NOT Necessary for Strong Bones

Milk Not Needed for BonesIn the medical journal Pediatrics new research has found little evidence that children need a milk-heavy diet to build strong bones.

The authors analyzed findings from 27 studies focused on diet and bone health in children and young adults. According to the authors, only nine of those studies found a relationship between calcium intake and bone health, and the effects were small.
The study co-author Amy Lanou, nutrition director for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine said, she recommends non-animal sources of calcium instead, such as dark greens, tofu, nuts and seeds. Getting more calcium from dairy products simply isn’t necessary, she said.

Instead, she suggests that parents look at other ways to promote the growth of strong bones. “The best option is to get your kids outside playing, getting some exercise and some sunshine, and make sure they have an overall healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes.”

When it comes to its role in forming and maintaining strong bones, “the data for calcium is quite weak, as compared to looking at vitamin K and vitamin D,” Susan Brown, director of the Osteoporosis Education Project, told the Syracuse, N.Y., Post-Standard. Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec comments on Milk is NOT Necessary for Strong Bones:

This research states it clearly that there is little evidence that milk is necessary to build strong bones.

The lead researchers recommend non-animal sources of calcium which include dark greens, nuts and seeds. This includes kale, collard greens, broccoli, dandelion, spinach, almonds, and sesame seeds.

Why do people want to drink dead, cooked (Pasturized/enzymeless), antibiotic filled, hormone filled, and pesticide filled liquid meat? Milk and dairy are implicated as a trigger in cancer, heart disease, diabetes and autoimmune disease.

You were meant to drink milk. Mother’s milk and the day you stopped that milk was supposed to be the end of your milk drinking.

Dr. Frank Oski, past head of Pediatrics at John Hopkins Hospital stated this issue clearly in his book “Don’t Drink Your Milk”.

Fasting Has an Anti-Cancer Effect

Cutting calories by fasting every other day may make cells less prone to becoming cancerous, the results of a study in mice suggest.

Scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, found that when they put mice on a routine of alternate-day fasting, it reduced the rate at which the animals’ body cells divided and proliferated. Because cancer begins when abnormal cells are allowed to divide and spread unchecked, this slowed-down cell division could theoretically reduce the risk of tumor development according to Dr. Marc Hellerstein, who led the research.

“I think everyone would agree that if you reduce cell proliferation in cancer-prone tissue you’ve done a good thing” said Hellerstein.

The study adds to a growing body of evidence that links calorie cutting to both longer life and lower cancer risk in animals.

Whether fasting could help people lower their cancer risk or prolong their lives is not yet known. But the encouraging finding from this study, the authors say, is that it didn’t take substantial calorie deprivation to spur the potentially beneficial cellular changes.

The mice fasted four days a week and allowed to eat as much as they wanted on non-fasting days. The net effect was a five-percent lower-than-normal calorie intake, which in humans would amount to eliminating about 100 calories per day.

The impact of this modest calorie reduction on cell division was nearly as significant as what Hellerstein’s team saw in a group of mice whose calorie intake was slashed by one third.

Much research interest of late has gone toward the possible benefits of calorie restriction, in which calories are limited but not to the point of malnutrition. Calorie reduction has been shown to extend the lifespan, with studies demonstrating the phenomenon in species ranging from yeast to fish to some mammals.

There are a number of theories on why limiting food might make for a longer, healthier life. One idea is that slowing the rate of metabolism reduces the generation of oxygen free radicals, potentially cell-damaging molecules that are a normal byproduct of the metabolic process.

When it comes to cancer specifically, research has suggested that calorie cutting could be beneficial in a number of ways — with reduced cell proliferation being one.

Exactly why fasting or general calorie restriction might dampen cell proliferation is unclear, according to Hellerstein, but he said it is likely to be related to metabolic effects.

“I think that a tremendous signal kicks in” when the body is deprived of food, Hellerstein said. What the signal or signals are is unknown, but one possible player, according to the researcher, is insulin-like growth factor type 1 (IGF-1) — a protein that helps spur cells to multiply and has been implicated in the cancer process. Previous animal research has shown that calorie restriction reduces blood levels of IGF-1.

The new findings, according to Hellerstein, suggest the possibility of health benefits from moderate calorie restriction, whether through generally eating less or “intermittent” fasting.

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec comments on Fasting Has an Anti-Cancer Effect:

This study showed another powerful truth—when less calories are taken in the body, the cells can fight cancer better. In tying this together with the previous study on living/raw vegan diets and health benefits the living/raw vegans had the benefits of:

1. Decreased CRP–decreased inflammation in the body which is the root cause of disease.

2. Decreased IGF-1—decreases cancer risk in rats.

3. Increased Vitamin D concentration which makes for strong bones.

In this study of fasting (decreasing total calories) the benefit was:

Decreased levels of IGF-1 which causes an anticancer effect on the cells. So this means the living/raw vegan diet did the same thing as the fasting diet and it decreased inflammation and had an anticancer effect on the cells.

What is a living/raw plant based vegan diet? It is fasting permanently from the SAD (Standard American Diet) of cooked food, processed food, meat, chicken, fish and dairy products which have all been shown to increase disease risk. Cellular Antioxidant Extends Life Span When In Food Form Not Pills

Mice that produce a specific antioxidant molecule deep within their cells live about 20 percent longer than normal mice, a new study finds.

The study’s authors stressed that this antioxidant isn’t the same as those sold as supplements.

Lead researcher Dr. Peter S. Rabinovitch, a professor of pathology at the University of Washington, in Seattle said the discovery does help validate the “free-radical” theory of aging, which contends that a highly reactive form of oxygen causes aging over the life span by damaging cells in body tissues and organs.

In fact, his team’s experiment appears to support a specific version of the free-radical theory, which holds that the major site of cellular damage lies in the mitochondria, the cell’s energy-producing ‘power plant.’
According to Rabinovitch, the finding suggests that where and how antioxidants are delivered to cells may matter as much as the antioxidants themselves.

None of this should send consumers rushing to health food stores for commercial antioxidants, the Seattle researcher said. A trip to the grocery store might not hurt, however.

“The evidence now for the benefits of oral antioxidant pills is rather weak, to be kind,” Rabinovitch said. “At the same time, there are benefits from a diet high in antioxidant-containing fruits and vegetables.”

Robert A. Floyd, head of the Free Radical Biology and Aging Research Project at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, goes even further in a warning about commercial antioxidant products.

“I would caution about doing anything in excess,” Floyd said. “The whole way free radicals are regulated in the body is very complex. If you put in more antioxidants to stop negative things, you may also stop beneficial things.”

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec Comments on Antioxidants
Studies in recent years have shown how antioxidants like Vitamin A and E not only do not decrease your cancer risk but actually increase it. This study is summed up by the words of leading researcher Dr. Rabinovitch when he stated “the benefit of oral antioxidants pills is rather weak, TO BE KIND,” . . . there are benefits from a diet high in antioxidant containing fruits and vegetables. Remember the words of the father of medicine Hippocrates, “Let your food be your medicine.”

Aspirin, Ibuprofen Might Boost Risk of Certain Breast Cancers

The findings, which appear in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, are based on an analysis of data from 114,460 women enrolled in the California Teachers Study. During follow-up from 1995 to 2001, a total of 2391 women were diagnosed with breast cancer.

Using aspirin or any other NSAID more than once a week had no effect on breast cancer risk, unless such use lasted at least 5 years, Dr. Sarah F. Marshall, from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, and colleagues report.

Long-term aspirin use was tied to an increased risk of breast cancer that was not hormone-driven, the researchers found.

There was also evidence that long-term ibuprofen use increased the risk of breast cancer, especially disease that had spread.

The authors estimate that 22 of the breast cancer cases diagnosed might be attributed to aspirin or ibuprofen use.

Daily use of aspirin for at least five years increases the risk of at least one type of breast cancer.

And ibuprofen use daily for five years or more was associated with a 50 percent increased risk of breast cancer, she added.

“These observations warrant further exploration because of the public health impact such readily available NSAIDs may have on breast cancer,” Marshall’s team concludes.

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec Comments on  Aspirin, Ibuprofen Might Boost Risk of Certain Breast Cancers
According to this new poll, 53% of Americans are either in acute or chronic pain with the majority of it being back pain. It is actually higher than this when you take into account the fact that those who live in mild pain for a long time do not even realize they are in pain until they are relieved of it and can compare. It is like someone who is sitting in a tub of hot water and after a while it does not seem to be hot until they are taken out of it and then go back into it. It is interesting that the majority of the pain is in the back. This makes sense because 90% of all neck or back pain is visceral in origin which means it comes from organs and glands referring pain into the neck and back when they are inflamed, toxic, deficient and out of balance. Here are some examples:

  • Sinus problems refer pain into the neck.
  • Heart problems into the chest and middle back.
  • Stomach problems in between the shoulder blades.
  • Kidneys imbalance refers pain into the lower back.
  • Intestinal problems also refer pain into the lower back.

So what do you do to get rid of your pain?

We will answer this by stating first what you do not do. You do not take aspirin, Tylenol or any other pain relieving chemicals because:

  1. They increase the risk of certain cancer (as the study shows).
  2. They give you Leaky Gut Syndrome which opens the door to most all disease.

What is Leaky Gut Syndrome?

Leaky gut is exactly what it sounds like. The intestinal tract is like a fine screen or mesh, which only lets nutrients of a certain size through. The nutrients then pass into the hepatic portal blood vessels, which bring nutrients to the liver, your chemical detoxification plant.

In a leaky gut condition, the intestinal tract becomes inflamed and the selective permeability (letting only digested food particles through) breaks down. This allows the passage of not only normal digested nutrient building blocks (amino acids, fatty acids and simple sugars from carbohydrates), but also the passage of larger food particles, like larger chain proteins, fats and carbohydrates, and toxins that were never meant to pass through. This can be likened to a window screen. If the screen is functioning properly with no holes in it, air will pass through, but the flies, mosquitoes and other bugs will not. In leaky gut, the intestinal barrier becomes inflamed. Instead of only letting the digested broken down food particles through, the larger food particles and toxins enter causing the immune system to become weakened and over stimulated. This is like the screen that now has tears, making larger holes that allow all types of insects to get through.

This presents a few problems. Larger chain proteins can trigger not only intestinal irritation and inflammation, but also all kinds of allergies, immune and autoimmune problems, and inflammatory joint conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. Too much protein can also cause kidney damage, especially if it is not digested into its amino acid building blocks.

Leaky gut can also result in toxicity, since toxins leak through the “screen” of your intestinal wall (because of the larger holes produced by the inflammation.) These toxins ultimately end up in the liver, your chemical detox plant. Unfortunately, your liver is by then overburdened, and the toxins end up circulating throughout the body, causing havoc wherever they go. If the toxins deposit in the brain, you might have foggy thoughts, possible memory loss and/or confusion, and even the start of neurological disease like multiple sclerosis or Parkinson disease. If the toxins deposit in the joints, you will have arthritic-type pains. If the toxins deposit in organs that produce white blood cells (WBCs), your immune system will be weakened, making you more susceptible to illness, including cancer.

Toxicity is the primary cause of cancer because toxicity is the primary cause of a weakened immune system. Cancer cells form in your body daily, but your WBCs normally destroys them. But when toxicity weakens your immune system, your WBCs can’t do their job, giving cancer cells the opportunity to grow. They eventually form a little colony called a tumor, which WBCs have more trouble destroying. So do not let your defenses down.

What would happen if two armies came to fight, and one side laid down all its weapons? That army would be quickly destroyed. That’s why our immune system is to be highly regarded and guarded at all costs.

Now let us answer the question by saying what you do when you are in pain. You do two things:

  1. Get healthy by living the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health™ everyday. By living these Seven Basic Steps you virtually eliminate all inflammation (which is the root of all disease) and heal all Leaky Gut Syndrome.
  2. You pray. As the poll stated, prayer worked as effectively in reducing pain as prescription drugs. 90% polled said it worked well. 51% said it worked very well.

Low Calorie Diet Beats Exercise for Staying Young

New research suggests that while exercise helps ward off chronic ailments such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease that can shorten a normal lifespan, only cutting calories appears to slow down the primary aging process.

Investigators at Washington University in St. Louis have found that eating a low-calorie, nutritionally balanced diet lowers concentrations of a thyroid hormone known as T3, which controls body temperature, cell metabolism, and it appears the production of free radicals – all of which are important aspects of aging and longevity. Calorie-restriction also decreases levels of the inflammatory protein tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha.

The combination of lower T3 and TNF levels may slow the aging process, Dr. Luigi Fontana and colleagues report in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.

In earlier work, Fontana’s group found that both cutting back on calories and exercising protects lab animals from heart disease, diabetes and obesity. However, only cutting back on calories increases the animals’ lifespan. This hints that leanness is the key factor in preventing age-related disease, but that reducing the amount of calories consumed is needed to slow down aging.

In the study, Fontana and colleagues compared thyroid hormone levels of 28 adults consuming a self-imposed calorie-restricted but nutritionally packed diet for 3 to 15 years, with that of 28 sedentary adults consuming a typical Western diet and 28 endurance athletes who were also consuming a Western diet.

The calorie-restricted group consumed about 1,800 calories per day, whereas those on the Western diet took in about 2,700 calories per day.

The researchers observed reduced T3 concentrations only in the calorie-restricted group. Levels of two other thyroid hormones – T4 and TSH – were normal, indicating that the calorie-restricted group was not suffering from thyroid disease called hypothyroidism.

Interestingly, according to the team, body fat levels did not affect T3 levels. This is a key finding, they say, because it suggests that decreased T3 levels are likely related to calorie restriction not changes in body fat.

T3 concentrations were 30 percent lower in the calorie-restricted eaters compared with the exercisers, even though percent body fat was similar between the two groups.

The difference in T3 levels between the calorie-restricted group and the exercise group is “exciting,” said Fontana, “because it suggests that calorie restriction has some specific anti-aging effects that are due to lower energy intake rather than to leanness.”

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on Low Calorie Diet Tops Exercise for Staying Young.

This fascinating study showed very simply what affects health, healing and aging. The new research showed that although exercise does help very much so, decreases chances of chronic ailments, such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, that can shorten normal life span, only reducing calories, the term is called calorie restriction, appears to slow down the primary aging process. What was found by the researchers, was that as calories are reduced in this study, averages 2700 for a standard American and in this study they decreased it to 1800 calories per day, but nutritionally balanced 1800 calories, as opposed to the western diet which is averaging 2700 calories per day.

What they showed was the indicators of a thyroid hormone T3, which controls body temperature, cell metabolism and it also appears to effect the production of free radicals, which is a very important part of aging and longevity. Calorie restriction lowered the T3 concentration and also calorie restriction decreased the level of inflammation which is measured in an inflammatory protein called Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha. The combination they found of lowered T3 and TNF levels, slows the aging process. Interesting in this study confirms what researchers have found over years of research: the only thing that will increase longevity of everything ever studied, is calorie restriction and as this study confirmed again, part of this is because the thyroid decreases in function but not in an unhealthy way. The study showed it did not send a person into hypothyroidism, but in a healthy on the low side of optimal range. What this does is it slows the metabolism a bit so the body actually ages less rapidly. Past studies have also shown that calorie restriction decreases the insulin secretion by the body which also is a major factor in aging.

What is the easiest way for you to start decreasing calories, or eating a calorie restricted diet? Simple, eat the diet that God designed you to eat which is a living/raw plant based diet. The more vegetables, sprouts, seeds, nuts, avocados and whole grains that one eats in the non cooked state, the calories go down and the nutrients go up. This is what you see in nature. Elephants, Zebras, all animals in nature that eat a living plant based diet, you will not see fat animals in nature. There is no fat because there is no cooked food consumed. Cooking destroys enzymes and increases weight gain by increased calorie intake. Animals in the wild never deal with this because whether they are plant eaters or animal eaters, they eat it in the living state. So, when we take that role, when we eat a more vegetables, sprouts, avocados, seeds and nuts, we’re going to naturally be doing a calorie restricted diet and we’re going to be very full with the concentration of nutrients not only from the protein and fat from seeds and nuts and avocados, but from the fiber.  Fiber fills us and that full feeling causes us to decrease eating, or to stop eating.

Vegetables Lower Lymphoma Cancer Risk

Eating plenty of leafy greens, broccoli and brussels sprouts may help ward off the blood cancer non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer, research findings suggest.

In a study of more than 800 U.S. adults with and without non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL), researchers found that those who ate the most vegetables had a 42 percent lower risk of the cancer than those with the lowest intakes.

In particular, leafy greens like spinach and kale, and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, brussels sprouts and cauliflower, seemed to be protective.

Similarly, the study found, two nutrients found in green vegetables — lutein and zeaxanthin — were related to a lower NHL risk.
The antioxidant activity of these vegetables and nutrients explains the connection, said study co-author Dr. James R. Cerhan of the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota.

Antioxidants help protect cells from such damage by neutralizing molecules called reactive oxygen species. These substances are byproducts of normal body processes, as well as environmental exposures like cigarette smoke, and in excess they can damage body tissue and lead to disease.

The new findings suggest “yet another benefit” of eating your vegetables, according to Cerhan.

Vegetables and fruits are probably the best way to get antioxidants, he said, because these foods have a host of other nutrients that may all work together to bestow health benefits.

The study included 466 adults with NHL who were enrolled in a national cancer registry, along with 391 cancer-free adults who were matched to patients by age, race and sex. Both groups answered questions about their diet and other health and lifestyle factors.
In general, those who ate more than 20 servings of vegetables a week had a 42 percent lower risk of NHL than those who ate eight weekly servings or fewer. When the researchers looked at specific nutrients, lutein and zeaxanthin stood out; people with the highest intakes were about half as likely as those with the lowest to develop NHL.
– American Journal of Clinical Nutrition

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on vegetables, antioxidants may lower lymphoma risks.
As stated in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, this study showed that researchers found that those who ate the most vegetables had a 42% lower risk of cancer, than those who ate the lowest intakes. Diet is a key alternative cancer treatment. In particularly feed greens, like spinach and kale, and the cruciferous  vegetables like broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, seemed to be protective. The important thing this study was showing was that as we get back to basics, the diet God designed us to eat, which is a living/raw plant based diet, the more disease protective from all diseases, not just cancer but also heart disease, diabetes, auto immune disease we become.

All diseases will decrease as we eat the diet we were designed to eat, one that was not cooked, one that was living or raw, living means still growing, this is seeds, nuts, sprouted material, sprouts, raw meaning not cooked, but not growing. This would be your vegetables, the foods that have been taken away from their life source, but still have high enzyme contents in them because they have never been processed through heat. Any heat over 105°F. destroys enzyme activity and decreases the nutrients in the food source and turns it more into calories than nutrients for health and healing. So, let us just add this in our protocol to attain total health.

So as we live the 7 Basic Steps and one of them the diet, the food, is a living raw plant based diet, high in vegetables, high in sprouted material, high in bioenergy, bioelectricity, enzymes and the nutrients, the vitamins and minerals and antioxidants and phytochemicals that have not been destroyed by heat, this is the diet that will keep us at the highest level of health, decrease our cancer risk and decrease our risk of all diseases and increase our longevity.

Placebos Work Better Than Medication

Dr. Scott H. Simpson of the University of Alberta in Edmonton, and his team analyzed the results of 21 studies that included a total of 46,847 people, and report the results in the British Medical Journal. They found that participants who took an active medication regularly were 44% less likely to die during the course of a study than those who did not, while people who adhered to recommendations for taking placebo had a 45% lower risk of death.

Three of the studies were of medications later found to be harmful, and the researchers found that people who took these dangerous drugs regularly had a three-fold greater mortality risk. This suggests, Simpson said, that “we can look at people that have very good adherence versus those that have very poor adherence and see if there’s difference in the rate of those adverse effects, that can tell us something about the harmful effects of the drug.”
– British Medical Journal

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on placebos more healing than medications.
This study reported in the British Medical Journal showed something that should be shouted from the rooftops, should be stated every American should know the results of this study. They found that participants that took an active medication regularly were 44% less likely to die during the course of the study than those that did who did not. That’s not the important part. The important part was this, while people who adhered to recommended for taking the placebo, a placebo is nothing. It is an inert substance in a capsule so a person thinks they are taking something that will help their health. They had a 45% lower risk of death. Let me state this again, taking drugs and medications which toxify the liver, which cause undo stress and many side effects and many long term health problems, had a greater likelihood to die than those who took nothing. Those who took a placebo, and inert substance in a capsule that they thought they were taking something to help their health. This shows the power of the mind. First of all, because when you believe in something it works, even if nothing is in there. But the most important thing is, in our overall medicated society which is causing increased risk of death and increased toxicity in the system which decreases ability to live life in the full due to more symptoms, conditions and diseases in the body, and actual nothing pill with nothing in it had a greater success rate by 1% than taking the medication. This needs to be understood by America.

When we live these steps day in and day out as a lifestyle, we can live a healthy full life as God designed us to live. Medication should only be used when utmost necessary in emergency situations. When people are overmedicated which a majority of all Americans are, as this study showed, if they would just take nothing and think that the nothing in that capsule was doing them good, they would do better than taking a toxic medication.

Acetaminophen Use Could Trigger Liver Damage

Even high-normal doses of the painkiller in Tylenol might be harmful, study suggests

In a new study, people who repeatedly took the maximum recommended daily dose of acetaminophen developed abnormalities in blood tests that can be a signal for liver damage.
For this study, 145 healthy adults each received either a placebo, one of three acetaminophen/opioid combinations, or acetaminophen alone for 14 days. Each active treatment included 4 grams of acetaminophen daily, the maximum recommended daily dosage.
None of the patients in the placebo group had a maximum aminotransferase (ALT and AST) tests used to measure levels of specific liver enzymes, measurement of more than 3 times the upper limit of normal.
However, in the four treatment groups, 31 percent to 44 percent of patients had a maximum ALT of more than three times the upper limits of normal. Those in the acetaminophen-alone group had a similar elevation, suggesting that the opioid had nothing to do with the effect.
-JAMA

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on acetaminophen triggers liver damage.

What this showed in this study which was done at the University of North Carolina, Chappell Hill, that people who repeatedly took the maximum recommended daily dose of acetaminophen, which this is Tylenol brand, those type of medications, develop abnormalities in the blood test that can be a signal for liver damage. Importance of this study is very simply this, when we put anything unnatural in our body that was not designed to be there it is going to have a toxic affect to some extent. All these pain killers whether aspirin, acetaminophen, Cox 2 inhibitors, all these pain killers do have very significant side effects, as this study showed, this simple amount of just taking acetaminophen can cause liver damage. Why liver damage? Because your liver is the organ that detoxifies your body. Any chemical, drug, medication, anything that is not supposed to be in there, has to be detoxified by the liver. And the liver spends quite a bit of time, just taking care of the standard toxins that come from normal break down of food, break down of cellular metabolism. So, the endotoxins that come from the inside of the body have to be broken down. Now when we are adding exotoxins, which is from the outside of the body, this is from the air, water and food, eating food with chemical on it, injected hormones, concentrated toxins, as we up the food chain and eat animal products, eating highly sprayed plant material, non organic plant material, all this increases the chemical load, the toxic load, the liver has to deal with. So, all that combined is enough that the liver cannot keep up with it and when we add this on top of this adding more chemicals in the form of acetaminophen it just pushes it over the top and the liver will become damaged. It is important to know that the liver is the first organ to go out of balance before cancer develops so a primary alternative cancer treatment is necessary to keep the liver healthy. Also make sure you live the Seven Basic Steps to Total Health

Vegan Diet for Diabetes Control

A study in Diabetes Care, published by the American Diabetes Association, shows that a low-fat, vegan diet is highly effective for blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes. The trial was conducted by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, under the auspices of the George Washington University, along with the University of Toronto, and included 99 adults with type 2 diabetes.

Participants were randomly assigned to follow either a low-fat, vegan diet or a diet following current ADA guidelines. Investigators tracked hemoglobin A1c, a commonly used index of long-term blood glucose control which, according to the ADA, should be less than 7%. The average participant began the study with an A1c of 8%. After 22 weeks, A1c had fallen by one full point in the vegan group, nearly twice the magnitude of the change in the ADA group. Many individuals in both groups reduced their medication use in the course of the study.

Among those whose diabetes medications remained stable, A1c dropped by 1.2 points in the vegan group, compared to 0.4 in the ADA group (P = .01). Weight loss averaged 13 pounds in the vegan group and 9 pounds in the ADA group. LDL cholesterol dropped by 21% in the vegan group, compared to 9% in the ADA group. Prior studies have shown that a vegan diet improves insulin sensitivity and causes significant weight loss. Because it imposes no limits on calories, carbohydrates, or portion sizes, it may be easier to follow than an ADA diet, which limits each of these.
– University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on a vegan diet, controls diabetes.
This study published in Diabetes Care, which is published by the American Diabetes Association, showed very specifically that a low fat vegan diet is a diet that totally devoid able of animal products, dairy products, anything from animal is not in this diet. This was highly effective for blood sugar control, with people with Type II Diabetes. In this study the average weight loss was 13 pounds in the vegan group and the LDL cholesterol dropped 21% in the vegan group. As the study showed, the researchers’ tracked hemoglobin A1C, which is commonly used index of long term blood glucose control. And what they found was those who adopt the vegan diet, the diabetic medications remain stable and the A1C dropped 1.2 points as compared to .4 points in the group that adopted the American Dietetic Associations guidelines for diet. This study, again, reinforces the back to the basics, back to the plan that God designed us to eat, which is a living raw plant based diet. Now this diet study was vegan which means no animal products at all, but it wasn’t necessarily raw living. You would have seen even a higher balancing of blood sugar if the foods were in the uncooked form, because when we cook foods, even plant based material, it turns into more sugar than in the uncooked form.  Always remember cancer loves sugar.  If you eat a living/raw plant diet this is an important step in any alternative cancer treatment. It also has much more nutrients in the uncooked form and it has enzymes and bioenergy and bioelectricity, which are totally destroyed in the cooking process. So, always remember the Seven Basic Steps to Total Health™:   And when we live each one of these steps fully we will be all that God has called us to be in body, mind, emotions and spirit and we never have to worry about diabetes or most any other health challenge when we are walking and living these 7 Basic Steps to Total Health day in and day out as a lifestyle.

Workers on Probiotics are Healthier

Workers who take probiotics daily are less likely to be off work with common illnesses, such as colds and gastroenteritis, than workers who don’t. An exploratory study published today in the open access journal Environmental Health shows that workers who took a daily dose of the probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus reuteri were 2.5 times less likely to take sick leave than workers who took a placebo.

Py Tubelius, from Tetra Pak Occupational Health and Safety AB, and colleagues from BioGaia AB, in Lund, Sweden, conducted a study to assess the health benefits for adults of taking L. reuteri on a daily basis. A group of 181 staff (128 day workers and 53 shift workers) at the Tetra Pak factory in Lund agreed to take part in the study. The workers were randomly assigned at the start of the study, to receive a drink with or without L. reuteri, every day for a period of 80 days.
Twenty-three of the 87 workers in the group that took a placebo reported taking sick days during the 80 day-long study. In contrast, only 10 of the 94 workers that took L. reuteri reported taking any sick days during the study. The effect of L. reuteri was most significant in shift workers: none of the 26 shift workers in the reuteri group reported taking any sick leave, compared to nine out of 27 shift workers in the placebo group.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on Workers on probiotics are healthier
This interesting study showed that when workers were put on certain probiotic, lactobacillus reuteri, they were 2 ½ times less likely to take sick leave, than workers that put on a placebo. This is just another powerful study that shows the importance of the intestinal track and healing. Maldigestion and malabsorbtion is the root of inflammation in the body and inflammation is the root of disease including cancer so improving digestion is a powerful alternative cancer treatment. So directly or indirectly your intestinal tract digestive and eliminative tract is responsible for a high percentage of your total health and physical body. So what this article showed was very simply when they took workers and gave them the probiotic over the 80 day long study, the regular workers were greatly reduced as far as the number of people who got sick, and it was more profound in shift workers.

In shift workers none of the shift workers in the probiotic group took any sick day leave compared to about 1/3 of the shift workers in the placebo group. So what does this mean to you and how can you adopt something into your life that will promote a higher level of health, keep you healthier, less days of sickness. Very simply this.  Start taking the highest quality probiotic on a daily basis. What a probiotic is, is a good bacteria. When you look at your intestinal tract it has good bacteria, bad bacteria and candida, which is yeast. What we want in a healthy body is lots of the good bacteria, look at those as the grass that grows and very little of the bad bacteria and yeast, those are the weeds that grow. The problem is with the standard American diet of high and refined sugars and starches and toxic animal products, all these things tend to stress out the digestive tract and lead to formations of maldigestion, malabsorbtion because of the toxicity of the hard to digest animal products, the chemical filled, and hormone filled animal products and also an overgrowth of the bad bacteria and the yeast, with refined sugar and starch diets. So our answer is very simply found in the fact that we need to change our diet. We need to adopt a living, raw plant based diet high in complex carbohydrates in raw, uncooked and living vegetables, sea vegetables, root vegetables, sprouted material. sprouts, seed, nuts, avocados and legumes. The majority of this is uncooked, raw and  living. When we eat this diet, the intestinal tract goes into the highest level of health because we are not feeding any of the toxic chemicals, we are not giving any hard to digest toxic animal products. We are not feeding the bad bacteria and the yeast with refined sugars, starches and flours that cause the yeast and the bad bacteria overgrowth. And we’re implanting the normal bacterial that is in our intestinal tract has time to reproduce and grow. If you don’t feed the weeds then the good grass will continue to grow and keep the lawn green, but if we are putting something into our body that feeds the weeds, the bad bacteria and the candida, and of course weeds also go faster and overtake grass. So the answer is two fold, first of all, adopt the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health stressing very importantly the diet, which is the living raw food diet.

And then the second fold part of the plan to promote the highest level of gastrointestinal health which in turn leads to the highest level of immune health, which in turn leads to not getting sick. Not only with bacteria, viruses, things like that, but also all sickness will be reduced when we balance the gastrointestinal, the digestive/eliminative tract. So the second fold that we recommend after the living raw plant based diet and adopting the Seven Basic Steps to Total Health as part of that, is implementing the highest grade probiotic. Which the one we researched and found to be the best is the number one selling probiotic in Europe. It’s HLC High Potency Powder, Intensive and Intensive capsules.   Along with this, if a person has had a history of weakened immune system, candida or yeast overgrowth or just chronic health problems, we add an enzyme to that kills yeast. The enzyme is SMI. So SMI actually digests yeast where as the HLC High Potency Powder is the most potent probiotic to refloralize the gut or to regrow the good grass seed. So again in our analogy, the SMI enzyme would be killing the weeds on the lawn. This is the bad bacteria and the candida, whereas, the HLC High Potency Powder Probiotic is grass seed that you are putting on the lawn to grow more grass. So that’s affecting it in two ways. One, by killing the bad, another by replanting the good. And again to sum up, when our digestion is good, and our elimination is good, and the normal flora in our intestinal tract is good, our immune system will be good, our health will be good, inflammation will be low. And without inflammation in the body with proper digestion, elimination, the likelihood of contracting diseases is extremely low.
