Constant Dieting Can Be Harmful To Your Health

“For a lot of people, the idea that a diet is something to go on and then off is wrong-headed to begin with,” said Julie Miller Jones a professor of nutrition and food science at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minn.. Instead of “diet,” she suggested, substitute the word “eating plan.” And determine that you will stick with it for life. “Unless [overweight] people get their head around this idea, that this is something you do for a lifetime, not six weeks or six months, they are doomed to failure,” Miller Jones said.

Even worse, constant dieting, especially with severe calorie restriction, makes it harder to lose weight the next time, Miller Jones said. No one’s disputing that excess body weight isn’t a problem in the United States.

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, about 64 percent of adults age 20 and older are overweight or obese, as are 15 percent of children and teens ages 6 to 19. Even so, dieting, particularly in adolescence, can be counterproductive, experts said. One expert, Joanne Ikeda, found that out when she surveyed adult women about their dieting habits in a study published in 2004 in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association. She asked 149 obese women if they had dieted and if so, how many times and when.

“We were able to use statistics and compare with women who had not gotten that large,” she said.

The result: The higher a woman’s body mass index, or BMI, the more likely she was to have started her first weight-loss diet before age 13, said Ikeda, the founding director of the University of California Berkeley’s Center for Weight and Health. Even worse, she added, “there have been some very large-scale studies coming out of Scandinavia showing that [repeated] weight loss [and regain] actually increases the risk for weight gain.” Often called “yo-yo dieting,” this pattern is definitely harmful, Ikeda said.

“I tell people if they have lost weight and regained it three times [or more], they should stop focusing on weight loss and start focusing on improving your metabolic fitness.”

That means leading a healthy lifestyle, eating sufficient calories for an adult. “Sufficient” generally means about 2000 calories a day, but Ikeda stressed that ideal levels can vary by weight and activity levels. The bottom line? The only way to have a healthy body weight, Ikeda said, is to have a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on dieting can be harmful to your health.
What this article showed was for a lot of people the idea that a diet is something to go on and off is wrong. Instead a diet should be an eating plan something that you are determined to stick with for life. It should not look at the short term goal of losing weight rapidly and then coming off a diet, because this will cause the never ending cycle of dieting and binging, dieting and binging. Instead adopting a lifestyle of decreased calorie intake but one that someone can handle and something that they can do for life. As the article also showed that studies coming from Scandinavia showed that repeated weight loss and regain actually increases the risk for future weight gain. Also the researchers showed that people that have lost weight and regained weight three times or more, should stop focusing on their weight loss and start focusing on leading a healthy lifestyle, which this includes not eating more than 2,000 calories a day.

The average American eats at least 2700 calories a day. How can this be attained? When we transition to a living raw plant diet one that is made up of vegetables, seeds, nuts, avocados, whole grains in the sprouted state, but uncooked state, sprouts themselves, all plant material in the uncooked state will be calorie reduction in of itself. A person will loose weight naturally without any side effects, without any yo-yoing effect, without ever gaining weight because when we eat these food, they are the most balanced foods created by God and they will fill us up, they will sustain us, they will give us everything that our body needs, and they will allow us to go to our ideal body weight naturally. This is one of the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health.

So, to recap we must get away from the finish of a thing, I want to be finished with my weight problems, I want to go on a diet, loose weight and be done with it. The problem is, once you are done with it, you are not done with it, you start up on the binging and the eating and then they weight gains and then you have to go on the diet to loose the weight. Doesn’t it make more sense to just eat the food and live the lifestyle that you are comfortable with, and can do it for the rest of your life and end this, this vicious cycle of weight gain, weight loss, weight gain?

Slowing Alzheimer’s Disease: Keep the Mind and Body Active

Researchers have uncovered the pathways behind the protection offered by environmental stimulation in Alzheimer’s disease, further confirming that enhanced mental and physical activity slows neurological decline.

Alzheimer’s disease, the leading cause of senile dementia, presents with cognitive and behavioral deficiencies resulting in part from accumulation of b-amyloid (Ab) deposits within the brain (Ab plaques) and its blood vessels (amyloid angiopathy). Although previous studies have shown that increased mental and physical activity can slow the progression of the disease, how such deceleration occurs has been unclear until now.

Dr. Kathy Keyvani’s group at University Hospital Muenster examined the effects of environmental stimulation on the brain pathology of TgCRND8 mice. These mice, which express a mutant form of Ab found in some Alzheimer’s patients, develop Alzheimer-like features including Ab plaques and cognitive deficits. To study the effects of enrichment, mice were housed in either standard cages or enriched cages, similar to the standard but with access to a stimulus cage containing permanent fixtures (rope and gnawing wood) as well as removable items (tunnels, balls, ladders, ramps, and exercise wheels) that were changed on a rotating basis.

Following five months of standard versus enriched housing, mouse brains were examined for signs of disease. Mice housed in the enriched environment had fewer Ab plaques, smaller plaque size, and reduced amyloid angiopathy compared to mice housed in standard cages.

Enriched mice exhibited down-regulation of pro-inflammatory genes but up-regulation of genes related to anti-inflammatory processes, protein degradation and cholesterol binding. This data suggest that an enriched environment elicits protection via pathways that prevent Ab accumulation and enhance its clearance.

The authors speculate that the altered expression of inflammatory genes may shift the immune response from one that is neurotoxic to one that is phagocytic (eating up the plaques).

This data provide strong evidence that an environment rich in mental and physical stimulation slows the progression of Alzheimer-like brain pathology.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on slowing Alzheimer’s disease, keeping the mind and body active.
The message is clear what the research shows in this article, is if you don’t use it, you lose it, in mind and in body. What they showed was an Alzheimer’s type of mice that produced the same plaquing in the nervous system that Alzheimer’s disease patients, humans, get. These mice were what they used to research Alzheimer’s disease in humans, because of the plaque they produce. What they found was when they put, what they called, enrichment in their cages, which was exercise wheels, and different things in which they had to use their mind and body more, what they found was anything that made them use their mind and body more, caused a decrease of the pro-inflammatory genes, and a build up in the genes that regulated the anti-inflammatory process. So the altered expression of these inflammatory genes caused the immune cells to eat up the plagues. The wonderful thing about this study is that all things are possible for him who believes. When you follow your heart and do what God’s put in your heart, anything can happen. Any situation, condition, symptoms, diseases can be reversed. This was reversed simply by having mice use their body and mind more with exercise and going through tunnels and going through different situations where their mind was exercised. How we apply this to actual life whether an Alzheimer’s patient or a regular person, is we are called to use our mind in a way that keeps it stimulated. They have shown that this has a similar effect in elderly people that do crossword puzzles. Also never discount the importance of physical exercise.

The body was meant to move. Life is motion. We stop the motion, we stop the life. So, the best types of exercise to keep the body moving are rebounding, lymphatic exercise, rebounding cellular exercise, cardio-vascular exercise, stretching exercise and strengthening exercises. All these can be done on a rebounder, and when instructed with rebounding technique with a rebounding DVD. Other very good forms of exercise are cardio vascular exercises alternatives to rebounding are, swimming, which is one of the best exercises of all outside of rebounding, the negative side is swimming in a toxic chlorinated pool, as opposed to an ocean or a lake, or chemical free pool. Walking is an excellent exercise, as long as you do it at a brisk pace to get the cardio vascular rate up. Another good form of exercise is weight training, or preferably, a calisthenics or body exercises. These are push ups, pull ups, things of that nature. And also stretching exercises. Just generally stretching all muscle groups. Just one additional comment on mental exercise. God gave us a mind but our mind can be a dangerous thing when the mind comes against what God has put in our heart. There is the conscious thinking mind, and then there is the sub-conscious mind or stored memory mind, and each part of these has a division of what we call the new mind and the old mind. The new nature and the old nature. So your old nature mind is the part that has the strongholds of the mind or the blockages of the heart. This is the world filled mind, the false belief system mind, the religion filled mind, the ego filled mind, the personality filled mind, the flesh filled mind, the five senses bound mind, the time bound mind, and the physicality bound mind. These nine strongholds of the mind, or blockages of the heart are our greatest challenge to overcome when we walk a life in the Spirit from the heart. What we rather fill our conscious mind up with, our thinking mind, with things that build us up in the Spirit,  in our body, mind spirit journey.

To close, we want to follow our heart. When we follow our heart, our mind, our body, our spirit will all be one, they will all be transformed into His image and likeness. And we want to use our body, the body was meant to be in motion, it was meant to stay active. This promotes health at all levels

Vegan Diet for Diabetes Control

A study in Diabetes Care, published by the American Diabetes Association, shows that a low-fat, vegan diet is highly effective for blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes. The trial was conducted by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, under the auspices of the George Washington University, along with the University of Toronto, and included 99 adults with type 2 diabetes.

Participants were randomly assigned to follow either a low-fat, vegan diet or a diet following current ADA guidelines. Investigators tracked hemoglobin A1c, a commonly used index of long-term blood glucose control which, according to the ADA, should be less than 7%. The average participant began the study with an A1c of 8%. After 22 weeks, A1c had fallen by one full point in the vegan group, nearly twice the magnitude of the change in the ADA group. Many individuals in both groups reduced their medication use in the course of the study.

Among those whose diabetes medications remained stable, A1c dropped by 1.2 points in the vegan group, compared to 0.4 in the ADA group (P = .01). Weight loss averaged 13 pounds in the vegan group and 9 pounds in the ADA group. LDL cholesterol dropped by 21% in the vegan group, compared to 9% in the ADA group. Prior studies have shown that a vegan diet improves insulin sensitivity and causes significant weight loss. Because it imposes no limits on calories, carbohydrates, or portion sizes, it may be easier to follow than an ADA diet, which limits each of these.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on a vegan diet, controls diabetes.
This study published in Diabetes Care, which is published by the American Diabetes Association, showed very specifically that a low fat vegan diet is a diet that totally devoid able of animal products, dairy products, anything from animal is not in this diet. This was highly effective for blood sugar control, with people with Type II Diabetes. In this study the average weight loss was 13 pounds in the vegan group and the LDL cholesterol dropped 21% in the vegan group. As the study showed, the researchers’ tracked hemoglobin A1C, which is commonly used index of long term blood glucose control. And what they found was those who adopt the vegan diet, the diabetic medications remain stable and the A1C dropped 1.2 points as compared to .4 points in the group that adopted the American Dietetic Associations guidelines for diet. This study, again, reinforces the back to the basics, back to the plan that God designed us to eat, which is a living raw plant based diet. Now this diet study was vegan which means no animal products at all, but it wasn’t necessarily raw living. You would have seen even a higher balancing of blood sugar if the foods were in the uncooked form, because when we cook foods, even plant based material, it turns into more sugar than in the uncooked form.  Always remember cancer loves sugar.  If you eat a living/raw plant diet this is an important step in any alternative cancer treatment. It also has much more nutrients in the uncooked form and it has enzymes and bioenergy and bioelectricity, which are totally destroyed in the cooking process. So, always remember the Seven Basic Steps to Total Health™:   And when we live each one of these steps fully we will be all that God has called us to be in body, mind, emotions and spirit and we never have to worry about diabetes or most any other health challenge when we are walking and living these 7 Basic Steps to Total Health day in and day out as a lifestyle.

You Are What You Eat

Carbohydrate rich foods could make you happy, while protein rich foods may help you do well on your test at school, according to research that suggests that what we eat changes how we think and feel.

“You can manipulate your mood and your mental acuity just by what you eat and when, and the effects can happen very quickly,” said Dr. Judith Wurtman, a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

She and her husband, Dr. Richard Wurtman (also of MIT), have studied the food-mood connection for the past 30 years.
According to Wurtman, the news that carbohydrates can lift the spirits first emerged about a dozen years ago, in studies she conducted with women suffering from premenstrual syndrome.

“Eating carbohydrates had a profound and dramatic effect in improving mood,” Wurtman said. “I’m talking about anger, irritability, depression, difficulty concentrating, mental fuzziness. We found that you could reverse those mood changes with carbohydrate-rich foods, in about 30 minutes.”

Carbohydrates can do little to change serious clinical depression, but they do seem to help battle the everyday “blahs,” she said. The reason may be very simple, she noted: the body uses carbohydrates to manufacture serotonin — the key emotion regulator in the brain. “When you eat carbohydrates and make more serotonin, mood disturbances that you may have been suffering can go away, at least temporarily,” she said.

And what about protein? Wurtman said the science on that is a little sketchier.

“My husband discovered years ago, however, that one of the amino acids in protein, called tyrosine, does increase the synthesis of two key chemicals in the brain, norepinephrine and dopamine, which we call the ‘mental alertness’ chemicals,” she said. For this reason, Wurtman recommends protein-heavy diets for people facing extended periods of mental strain, such as preparing for an important exam. “It’ll help you replenish those chemicals in your brain,” she said.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on you are what you eat.
This very interesting research article shows us how our moods and emotions can be affected by what we eat. The basis, I should say the summation of what the research showed was, when a person eats a high carbohydrate meal it actually can cause them to go into an improved mood, it can cause them to go into more calm, calm down to some extent, anger, irritability, depression, difficulty concentrating, mental fuzziness. And this can be changed within 30 minutes with carbohydrate rich foods. What are the carbohydrate rich foods? These are the vegetables. Again, eating raw is the most important way to eat them. The vegetables, the root vegetables are wonderful, these are the yams:jewel and garnet, sweet potatoes, carrots, root vegetable called jicama, all these carbohydrate rich vegetables are very good for the system. Standard vegetables are the best, the green leafy vegetables and just the green vegetables. All vegetables should be eaten as much as possible in the raw and uncooked state to have the highest nutritional benefit and balance to the mind and emotions.

The other thing that this research showed was diets that were high in protein especially the amino acid called tyrosine increased the synthesis of norepinephrine and dopamine, which were the mental alertness chemicals. This is why a high protein diet or a diet with more protein is much better for people who are facing extended periods of mental strain. As I said, facing an important exam.  So what we do want to get out of this study is how food can affect certain chemicals secreted in the brain and in the body that cannot affect moods. Carbohydrates are by far the most important part of our diet which is the vegetables, the sprouts, the sprouted material. The protein sources also can help with mental clarity and alertness. These are best found in the plant kingdom because they have the least amount of toxicity and should be eaten raw. This would be primarily the seeds and the nuts. So, to sum up, if we want to eat a diet that brings Total Health, we eat a living/raw plant based diet. The living/raw plant based diet is a balanced diet of vegetables, sprouts, sea vegetables, root vegetables, seeds, nuts, legumes, and avocados. When we combine this type of food we have the balance in body, mind and emotions. The balance of the emotions, the balance of the mind, the alertness of the mind. Additional note on this is, we have to be careful that we do not try to eat food in a specific way as they are saying to bring on a carbohydrate high which will drop us lower than we were when we eat the wrong forms of foods. For example, if we are eating breads, there are carbohydrates in breads but that will blow the blood sugar out of balance and give you a temporary good feeling but then when the blood sugar bottoms out, it will drop you lower than where you started. So that’s why it’s very important just to eat a well balanced living raw plant based diet of the seeds, nuts, avocados, vegetables, root vegetables, green vegetables, all vegetables along with sprouts, sprouted material, legumes, and sea vegetables, all these things. Avocados being a wonderful source of fat, and fat is a stored energy form.

So the other side note is we have to make sure besides not trying to eat from one food group but a balance living raw plant based diet which is non toxic and most health promoting to the body, is that we eat food that heals the body an as these articles show can help balance the mind and emotions. We eat it in a living/raw plant state which is the closest state that God created the food to be in. When we do this we do not feed the flesh filled old mind, we do not feed the emotions. So, as it was stated we can eat carbohydrates in a cooked processed form. You can have a cookie, it will temporarily affect your mood. You can have a piece of bread, and they are still carbohydrates that will give you a feel good with increase in serotonin level but then drops you worse than when you started. This is the sugar blues, where it goes up and down. That is not the purpose. And the purpose is never to eat a high protein diet especially from animal origin. We get plenty of protein from the seeds and the nuts. But seeds and nuts should be combined with the vegetables, the sprouts, the avocados in a balanced diet, so that we are not trying to eat excessively high protein. Protein is harder on the system to digest. It takes much more energy. So protein is good when it is in a living/raw plant form, but it doesn’t need to be eaten separately in high quantities to change mind or emotions. So the general message is follow your heart in this life, live a balanced life of what we call the Seven Basic Steps to Total Health™  So when you are eating a living/raw plant based diet, you are bringing balance to the mind, emotions and body also you are not feeding the flesh filled old mind. Also it is important to know that food is a powerful part of any alternative cancer treatment. Cancer grows in sugar so this must be avoided completely. Living and raw plant based foods are the best choices when one is facing a major health challenge.

Diet and Exercise: The Real Fountains of Youth

If you want to live long and well there are two things you must do — eat right and exercise.

And while there are no guarantees in life, adopting these healthy lifestyles can enhance your chances of vitality as you reach your 60s, 70s, 80s — and beyond, experts say.

But a new report by the nonprofit Center for the Advancement of Health says that’s not always easy for older people in a society that has built its streets for drivers, not walkers, and put convenience — think fast foods — for the young over possibilities for the old.
With 35 million Americans aged 65 and older — a number expected to double during the next 25 years — seniors and government must both make healthy choices, said Nancy Whitelaw, director of the National Council on the Aging’s Center for Healthy Aging, which funded the report.

When it comes to nutrition and activity, “people know the message,” she said. “The challenge is to make it operational in our daily lives.”

People who get regular exercise, eat healthfully and avoid tobacco have a lower risk of chronic diseases that lead to premature death, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and certain cancers. They also have reduced rates of disability, better mental health and cognitive function, and lower health costs.

Conversely, individuals who are physically inactive are almost twice as likely to develop heart disease as active people, according to the report. Inactivity is also linked to the development of diabetes and colon cancer, and can result in loss of muscle strength and mass, which can lead to frailty and lethal falls.

Yet, approximately one-third of persons age 65 or older have not engaged in any leisure-time physical activity within the past month, including the majority of those over the age of 75, according to the study.

Just 30 minutes of activity five days a week can make the difference, said Whitelaw. The idea is to get your heart rate up for at least 20 minutes, and participate in activities that build balance, strength and flexibility. Recommended exercises include walking, swimming and bicycling. Doctors also endorse strength training two days per week.

But, the right kind of activity, coupled with a diet rich with fruits and vegetables and light on refined and processed foods, can lead to a longer, happier life, she said.

Only about one-quarter of U.S. adults eat the recommended five or more servings of fruits and vegetables each day, according the report. And, studies show that older people consume inadequate amounts of key nutrients such as calcium, vitamin D, magnesium and phosphorus, which play a key role in maintaining muscle and bone health.

So reach for an apple instead of the chips, Whitelaw said. And if you can’t do 30 minutes of exercise at a time, try it in 10-minute spurts. You can also stretch when you’re washing the dishes, take the stairs rather than the elevator, and walk across the parking lot rather than fight for the spot closest to the door. Better still, walk to your destination if it’s less than a mile away.
These are things we all know, she said. “We just got out of the habit.”

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on Diet and exercise, the real fountains of youth.
What this study showed was what we have taught all along, lifestyle changes, two of the seven basic steps which we will go over, diet and exercise they are finding reverse diseases. What the article showed was that people who get regular exercise and eat healthy, they have a much lower risk of chronic disease, such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure. They also have a reduced rate of mental, health and cognitive function decline. On the other side, the people who are most inactive, not exercising, are twice as likely to develop diseases as active people. Inactivity, lack of exercises, has shown to lead to the development of certain cancers, diabetes, the loss of muscle strength and mass which could lead to even lethal fractures. And they summed up by just saying that 30 minutes of activity five times a week can make the difference in getting the heart rate up for twenty minutes. And this can be done with a balance of strength exercises, cardiovascular exercises, and flexibility exercises. The ones that they recommended the most were walking, swimming and bicycling. We would like to add to that rebounding is the best, then would be swimming, but unfortunately, most swimming has the negative side of toxic chlorine, so we do not recommend that one usually. Walking is another excellent exercise if done briskly to get the heart rate up. And the strength training can be done with weights, or it can be done by calisthenics, body exercises such as push ups/pull ups. The big thing is the activity has to be coupled with the diet as they said in the article, high in fruits and vegetables and light on refined and processed foods.

So what they are showing is what we have said all along when you adopt a healthy lifestyle, you can and have found the best way to promote longevity in the body and health in the body, and this is health not just in the physical, but mental and emotional health also, because what you do to the body you do to the mind, and what you do to mind, you do to the body. They react to each other, they are all one, body, mind, emotion, spirit.  Now the 7 Basic Steps, this is what has kept the whole human race healthy for last 10,000 years. It has only been the last, less than 75 years, more like 50-75 years that we have relied on medical intervention with tests and medicine and surgeries, to help us prolong life. But is this the type of prolonged life we want? Is it better to take medications and have surgeries and exist to 75 years of age, just exist? Or would it be better to do what mankind has done for 10,000 years, which is lead a healthy lifestyle which promotes health and keeps the body healthy in every way?

Remember, there were never pap smears, blood tests, colonoscopies, MRI and CAT scans a 100 years ago, 500 years ago, 1,000 years ago. What there was, always was, fresh air, water, pure food diets, always exercise, that was the lifestyle, people worked in the fields, they worked to raise their food, to grow their food. They slept. The average person would go to bed when the sun goes down and wake up when the sun comes up. And they fasted normally because there was no standard American diet of toxic animal products, refined sugars and starches. So the detoxing was natural because the world wasn’t polluted and also the food wasn’t polluted and processed. And then prayer, meditation and stillness. For 10,000 years people lived the simple life, reflecting the glory of God in all things, seeing Him in the natural settings, seeing Him in the sunrise and the sunset. There wasn’t the bombardment of information in this information age that we are in now of 10,000 choices for everything. Life was simple, life was more back to nature and balanced. And this kept people healthy for this period of time. Only within the last 100 years have we seen the rise of diseases like cancer and heart disease. Prior to 100 years ago these were virtually unknown, or in such trace amounts they were rarely to be seen. Now they are the number one and two cause of death. Cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and lung disease and conditions kill 9 out of 10 Americans. This wasn’t so in the past. So, live the 7 Basic Steps and remember, whether I eat or I drink, or I exercise, or I sleep, or I fast, or I pray, or whatever I do, I do it all to the glory of God. This is the key component in the fountain of youth, doing everything in your life to the glory of God and taking care of your body as if it were the temple of His Holy Spirit.

Workers on Probiotics are Healthier

Workers who take probiotics daily are less likely to be off work with common illnesses, such as colds and gastroenteritis, than workers who don’t. An exploratory study published today in the open access journal Environmental Health shows that workers who took a daily dose of the probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus reuteri were 2.5 times less likely to take sick leave than workers who took a placebo.

Py Tubelius, from Tetra Pak Occupational Health and Safety AB, and colleagues from BioGaia AB, in Lund, Sweden, conducted a study to assess the health benefits for adults of taking L. reuteri on a daily basis. A group of 181 staff (128 day workers and 53 shift workers) at the Tetra Pak factory in Lund agreed to take part in the study. The workers were randomly assigned at the start of the study, to receive a drink with or without L. reuteri, every day for a period of 80 days.
Twenty-three of the 87 workers in the group that took a placebo reported taking sick days during the 80 day-long study. In contrast, only 10 of the 94 workers that took L. reuteri reported taking any sick days during the study. The effect of L. reuteri was most significant in shift workers: none of the 26 shift workers in the reuteri group reported taking any sick leave, compared to nine out of 27 shift workers in the placebo group.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on Workers on probiotics are healthier
This interesting study showed that when workers were put on certain probiotic, lactobacillus reuteri, they were 2 ½ times less likely to take sick leave, than workers that put on a placebo. This is just another powerful study that shows the importance of the intestinal track and healing. Maldigestion and malabsorbtion is the root of inflammation in the body and inflammation is the root of disease including cancer so improving digestion is a powerful alternative cancer treatment. So directly or indirectly your intestinal tract digestive and eliminative tract is responsible for a high percentage of your total health and physical body. So what this article showed was very simply when they took workers and gave them the probiotic over the 80 day long study, the regular workers were greatly reduced as far as the number of people who got sick, and it was more profound in shift workers.

In shift workers none of the shift workers in the probiotic group took any sick day leave compared to about 1/3 of the shift workers in the placebo group. So what does this mean to you and how can you adopt something into your life that will promote a higher level of health, keep you healthier, less days of sickness. Very simply this.  Start taking the highest quality probiotic on a daily basis. What a probiotic is, is a good bacteria. When you look at your intestinal tract it has good bacteria, bad bacteria and candida, which is yeast. What we want in a healthy body is lots of the good bacteria, look at those as the grass that grows and very little of the bad bacteria and yeast, those are the weeds that grow. The problem is with the standard American diet of high and refined sugars and starches and toxic animal products, all these things tend to stress out the digestive tract and lead to formations of maldigestion, malabsorbtion because of the toxicity of the hard to digest animal products, the chemical filled, and hormone filled animal products and also an overgrowth of the bad bacteria and the yeast, with refined sugar and starch diets. So our answer is very simply found in the fact that we need to change our diet. We need to adopt a living, raw plant based diet high in complex carbohydrates in raw, uncooked and living vegetables, sea vegetables, root vegetables, sprouted material. sprouts, seed, nuts, avocados and legumes. The majority of this is uncooked, raw and  living. When we eat this diet, the intestinal tract goes into the highest level of health because we are not feeding any of the toxic chemicals, we are not giving any hard to digest toxic animal products. We are not feeding the bad bacteria and the yeast with refined sugars, starches and flours that cause the yeast and the bad bacteria overgrowth. And we’re implanting the normal bacterial that is in our intestinal tract has time to reproduce and grow. If you don’t feed the weeds then the good grass will continue to grow and keep the lawn green, but if we are putting something into our body that feeds the weeds, the bad bacteria and the candida, and of course weeds also go faster and overtake grass. So the answer is two fold, first of all, adopt the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health stressing very importantly the diet, which is the living raw food diet.

And then the second fold part of the plan to promote the highest level of gastrointestinal health which in turn leads to the highest level of immune health, which in turn leads to not getting sick. Not only with bacteria, viruses, things like that, but also all sickness will be reduced when we balance the gastrointestinal, the digestive/eliminative tract. So the second fold that we recommend after the living raw plant based diet and adopting the Seven Basic Steps to Total Health as part of that, is implementing the highest grade probiotic. Which the one we researched and found to be the best is the number one selling probiotic in Europe. It’s HLC High Potency Powder, Intensive and Intensive capsules.   Along with this, if a person has had a history of weakened immune system, candida or yeast overgrowth or just chronic health problems, we add an enzyme to that kills yeast. The enzyme is SMI. So SMI actually digests yeast where as the HLC High Potency Powder is the most potent probiotic to refloralize the gut or to regrow the good grass seed. So again in our analogy, the SMI enzyme would be killing the weeds on the lawn. This is the bad bacteria and the candida, whereas, the HLC High Potency Powder Probiotic is grass seed that you are putting on the lawn to grow more grass. So that’s affecting it in two ways. One, by killing the bad, another by replanting the good. And again to sum up, when our digestion is good, and our elimination is good, and the normal flora in our intestinal tract is good, our immune system will be good, our health will be good, inflammation will be low. And without inflammation in the body with proper digestion, elimination, the likelihood of contracting diseases is extremely low.

  7. Eliminative system
  8. Reproductive system
  9. Structural system

These nine systems when functioning normally along with balanced biochemistry and mental/emotional states promotes total health. These nine systems and two states work together like a symphony of music, each organ and gland in each system playing its instruments to perfection hence the overall beautiful music being produced.

Hormonal health is no different from neurological health or digestive health. They are all interconnected and what you do to one you do to them all. So to balance your estrogen and progesterone levels does not lie in just taking potentially safer bio-identical hormones, but in balancing your nervous system (brain, hypothalamus, brainstem), your hormonal system in order of priority: first the pituitary gland which is the master hormone regulator, then your thyroid gland (metabolism, temperature and weight), then your thymus gland (immune function) followed by your pancreas (digestion and blood sugar stabilization), your adrenals (stress reduction) and finally your ovaries which produce estrogen and progesterone.

What you want to get a revelation of is this: the ovaries are last on the totem pole of importance in the hormonal system.  The hormonal system itself is controlled by your brain and nervous system and is heavily influenced by all the other eight systems that control what hormones are secreted and when. Can you see it much more than taking a hormone to feel better, but balancing all your systems and states in order of priority? When you do this first, then if and I will emphasize IF you need to take bio-identical hormones they will be safe and not produce cancer because you will need to take a much, much smaller dose because your body is now in balance needing just a very little help in the hormonal area.

The time you go to sleep and what you eat, how much exercise you get, how much water you drink and how much you live fully in the moment, all are very important to balance your hormone levels. If you do not balance the nine systems and two states first then you will take too high a dosage of bio-identical hormones and although they are made of natural substances, they will still over stimulate your system and increase your risk if getting cancer.  Balance the whole and then the individual parts will also balance naturally as God intended them to.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Major Depression

Omega-3 fatty acids play a critical role in the development and function of the central nervous system. Emerging research is establishing an association between omega-3 fatty acids (alpha-linolenic, eicosapentaenoic, docosahexaenoic) and major depressive disorder. Evidence from epidemiological, laboratory and clinical studies suggest that dietary lipids and other associated nutritional factors may influence vulnerability and outcome in depressive disorders. Research in this area is growing at a rapid pace.

At Total Health Institute we have helped thousands of people restore their total health in the last 27 years with our: Inpatient programs, Outpatient treatments/teaching, Disease Prevention program, Stay at Home program, Spa services and our Total Health Store and products.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comment on Omega 3 fatty acids and major depression.
This abstract from the Journal of Lipids and Health and Disease very simply states that research has found that Omega 3 fatty acids do play a critical role in the development and function of the central nervous system and when there is a deficiency of these, it can greatly influence the vulnerability and outcome in depressive disorders. What this abstract is showing is very simply, your brain and nervous system need fat. It needs a blend of the essential fatty acids, a proper ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 fatty acids. Typically what has been recommend in this case is to eat more cold water fish. The problem with this is fish is toxic, all fish is toxic. Farm raised fish is toxic due to the chemicals that are in the water and in the feed, wild fish is toxic due to the mercury and other things that are being dumped into the water sources. So much so that they have put a warning that pregnant women limit, greatly limit the amount of fish they eat due to the mercury toxicity and the potential risk and damage to the unborn child. So where can we get our Omega 3’s fatty acids in the perfect ratio with out the toxicity that comes from fish?

Remember when God designed the world, he designed the world in the Garden of Eden, and the diet was a living, raw plant based diet. There was no death, there was no diet of killing animals to eat. All the nutrients were supplied by the plants. This is the diet, the first diet promoted total health and this is still the diet that promotes total health. The best source of the Omega 3 fatty acids and the perfects ratio are two seeds in the plant kingdom. These are hemp seeds and flax seeds. So in a living, raw plant based diet, we always recommend the addition of hemp seeds and flax seeds.   These seeds not only have proper ratio of Omega 3’s and Omega 6 fatty acids, but in having an organic non chemical living seed as your source these Omega 3’s not only balance the nervous system, and as this abstract shows, help with depression and mental and emotional disorders, but also helps with pain, inflammation, numbness, tingling, weakness and burning. All these are symptoms of the central nervous system imbalance.

The biggest of course is the anti-inflammatory characteristics of the essential fatty acids. So, with inflammation as the root of all disease including cancer so these omega 3’s are an important part of any alternative cancer treatment.  If we have the Omega 3’s in an organic living source, which is the Hemp Seeds and the Flax Seeds, this will promote total health in the highest level. It is important that we get our Omega 3’s from the right sources, in organic living source and an organic raw source that has no chemicals, toxins or mercury or any other possible chemicals. And also, it is important to understand that when we take these, we take them in the pure state, which is in the whole seed state, which can be blended or ground, but even fresh, and heat never applied to it. We do not recommend oils that have been extracted from the seeds, because the oils can oxidize, the oils are still the void of the full spectrum of nutrients. So we do not recommend flax oil, or hemp oil, but the whole flax seed and the whole hemp seed. And this is just a part of the Seven Basic Steps to Total Health(TM)

In closing, we want to eat a living/raw plant based diet and one that, of course, brings balance into the whole system and one that is high in these living, raw nutrients including the Omega 3 fatty acids will do just this. You will balance the nervous system, which effects the brain and brain function, the mind, and the emotions and also brings balance to the entire nervous system, which would be decreasing pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, burning and the greatest benefit of all is when we eat these living raw Omega 3 source nutrients, from plant based origin, they are very anti-inflammatory and this decreasing the root cause of all disease.

Detoxification and Alternative Cancer Treatment

Every cell in your entire body is replaced within one year. This means you are a whole new you in one year. The problem is if you keep doing what you have always done, you will get what you have always had, a physically as well as mentally/emotionally toxic, out of balance body that is prone to symptoms, conditions and diseases including cancer.

What is detoxification? It is simply ridding the body of chemicals, toxins and waste products that will cause premature cell death if not cleared from the body. If these toxins build up to high levels and enter the cells then they can cause the cells to dedifferentiate into cancer stem cells. If this occurs alternative cancer treatment becomes vital to restore ones health.

As you fast, you eliminate these three:
1. Toxins and chemicals
2. Non-vital tissue
3. Pathogens

Once you start to fast, the garbage that has been stored in your cells for the last 30-40 years finally has a chance to be released. This begins with toxins, chemicals, and drugs stored in the tissues. Then you begin to eliminate all the non-vital tissue, the cysts, tumors, edematous fluid and finally all the harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi and any other pathogens are removed by your white blood cells or they simply die because they are no longer being fed.

The old is gone, the new has come. First, you need to remove all the old cells and tissues that have been filled with chemicals, toxins and pathogens. Next the new cells and tissues are rebuilt in a pure (toxin and chemical free) state. Since every cell in the body is replaced within one year if you plant new seeds today, you will get a new harvest within one year. Stomach cells are replaced within days, liver cells within 6 weeks, blood cells within 3 months and brain cells within one year.

In fasting, all non-essential cells, tissues and fluids are broken down back into their component parts of amino acids, essential fatty acids, simple chain sugars, enzymes, vitamins and minerals. This includes tumors, cysts, scars, edematous and extraneous fluids. Then the miracle of fasting reorganizes these component building blocks and reuses them to rebuild the “new” body of health and wholeness so one does not become deficient. The body turns non-essential tissue into essential tissue.

Fasting and detoxification complement alternative cancer treatment by making an environment that pathogens (which include): bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungus, yeast and cancer cells cannot live in. What is the connection between all these pathogens? They thrive in high sugar and low oxygen environments. What does fasting and detoxification do? They make the reverse environment, one of low sugar and high oxygen. This environment promotes health and prevents disease like cancer.

Pesticide Exposure Damages Nervous System and Brain

Exposure to pesticides causes changes to rats’ nervous systems, according to preliminary results of a project led by the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) at the University of North Dakota (UND).

The project seeks to identify the dangers posed by pesticides, how exposure occurs, and ways to reduce pesticide-related human health risks.

In laboratory tests with rats, the researchers found that pesticide exposure caused changes in the same areas of the brain involved in multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.

Pesticides can also cause severe damage to the gastrointestinal system and cause neurological dysfunction, the researchers said.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on pesticide exposure damages nervous system, brain, and gastro-intestinal system.
What this article showed was that pesticide exposure caused changes in rat studies in the same areas of the brain involved in multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. They also found that pesticides can also cause severe damage to the gastro-intestinal system and cause neurological dysfunction. Many other studies have shown that pesticide exposure increases cancer risk and once you have been diagnosed with cancer the best choice is alternative cancer treatment. What we have to realize is that we are toxifying the world we live in with our toxic lifestyle.

Chemicals are being pumped into the air, the water, and the food. So the only way around this is a two fold answer. Number 1, try to change the laws, try to change the government to put more restrictions on the chemical produces that are toxifying the world. That is a much slower way, a way that we do need to adopt, but a way that we will not see the change immediately. The second fold of the two fold approach is to make personal changes in our life that will have immediate benefits. So let’s look at where these pesticides and chemicals and toxins are coming from. Pesticides of course are sprayed not only on non organic food, fruits and vegetables, but also one of the highest sources of pesticides are just what’s in your home, what you would be putting in your lawn and garden. So how can we minimize pesticides and all other chemicals? Well we have to look at the 3 sources, air, water and food. So, we’ll look at air first? How can we make the purest air? Well we want to breath fresh air, we don’t want to be exposed to chemical, it is very important we minimize chemical exposure.

The biggest source of chemicals in a day to day environment in breathing, is when we are inside buildings, and inside newer homes, or toxic chemical laden buildings. This is why the more we can open windows and get ventilation, the more we will minimize that risk. We can also use certain air purifiers,  that are designed to detoxify chemicals in the air, and make it pure air (call the Institute for more information on the Fresh Air at 630-871-0000). The second is the water. And the way we are going to purify the water is by putting shower filters, like the Waterwise Shower Filter System on our showers so we do not absorb the chemical and toxins from the ground water and from the water being put into our body. Because we breathe in the water vapors, which chlorine gas is very toxic and we breathe it in in a standard 20 minute shower, we breathe in an excessive amount of chlorine and also we absorb 2-3 pounds of water in a 20 minute shower in through our skin, and again if this is non filtered water, this is toxicity entering the system, so we use Waterwise Filter System for the shower, and we can put carbon filtration systems for the whole house. I do not recommend drinking that water, but at least we’re reducing the chemical load that would go on our hands, skin and going in the water that we use daily. And then as far as drinking water, we recommend steamed distilled post carbon filtered water for the purest water on the planet.

And the Waterwise 8800 unit is one of the best on the market to do this. So we have fresh air, pure air, pure water now we want to get the chemicals out of the food. And this is pure living raw, organic plant based food. It is the purest food on the planet and it’s the most health promoting on the planet in every way. It’s the food that the planet started with in the beginning of creation and it’s the food that will sustain this planet for the years to come. When we adopt a living, raw plant based lifestyle, not only do we bring the highest level of health to our bodies, minds and emotions from a dietary aspect, but also we promote the saving of the resources of the planet and the tremendous amount of waste and cost that is produced in promoting an animal food, animal diet lifestyle. This living, raw organic diet consists of vegetables, root vegetables, sea vegetables, sprouts, sprouted material, seeds, nuts, avocados, and legumes. All in the living, raw state. The more we cook, the more we kill, the more we destroy the two most important nutrients in the food which is the bioenergy and the enzymes. The bioenergy is the life in the food, and life brings forth life, and the enzymes are critical for biological functioning in the cells of the body. And the enzymes are denatured by any heat higher than 110°F. This heat destroys all enzyme activity. So when we cook food, even wonderful plant based food, we destroy the two most important nutrients, the bioenergy, and the enzymes. So if we adopt the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health lifestyle, we promote health at the highest level in body, mind, emotions and spirit.

Stress Can Shrink and Age Your Brain

New research is providing insight into how stress can shrink your brain cells and prematurely age your immune system.

Essentially, the researchers say, stress can addle your mind and make you older. But there’s good news too: Exercise can make a huge difference. And, in the case of the brain at least, time might heal the wounds caused by stress.

“The brain is very resilient,” said Bruce McEwen, head of the neuroendocrinology laboratory at Rockefeller University in New York City. “Give it a chance and it will make every effort to repair itself.”

McEwen said his research has found even more signs that repeated stress actually causes neurons in the brain to shrink, at least in rats.

Earlier research showed that the neurons shrink in the hippocampus, and that seems to impair memory in response to stress, he said. More recent research suggests that the same thing happens in the brain region called the prefrontal cortex, which is crucial for decision-making and attention, he said.

When stressed, rats lose what McEwen calls “mental flexibility” — “the ability of the animal to use a familiar set of cues in a different way when the location of a food reward is shifted.”

What does this mean for humans? “Stress hormones act on the brain to remodel it and change it,” McEwen said. “The brain of a stressed animal or human being is a different brain. It has different capacities, and it may be more anxious and have less ability to pay attention or learn or remember.”

But there are potential fixes for those with mental stress, McEwen said. “A combination of psychotherapy, cognitive behavior therapy and pharmaceuticals could actually change the brain and restore it more or less to normal,” he said.

Exercise is another potential booster, he said, adding, “there’s growing evidence that exercise has very powerful effects.”

Outside the brain, stress can wreak havoc on the immune system, according to another study to be presented at the meeting.

Research suggests that stress can shorten the chunks of DNA at the tips of chromosomes in cells, making it harder for them to work properly, according to the researcher, Elissa Epel, a psychologist at the University of California, San Francisco. The bits of DNA “are like the plastic caps on the ends of our shoelaces. They prevent the ends from fraying,” she said.

What does this mean? “We examined healthy women and found that psychological stress was related to shortened” tips, she said. As a result, the immune system of the stressed-out women is apparently aging at a faster rate.

The treatments for this problem are what you might expect. “Everything we already know about fighting off chronic disease, like getting sufficient sleep, staying active throughout life, and having a healthy diet” may stave off premature aging of the immune system, too, Epel said.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on stress can shrink and age your brain.
This was a very interesting study with the researcher found was that stress actually causes neuron’s in the brain to shrink and very interesting what he also showed was stress hormones act on the brain to remodel it and change it. The stressed brain has different capacities and it may be more anxious and have less ability to pay attention, learn or remember. Also what interesting in this article which we disagree with is the head researcher said that the answer was a combination of psychotherapy cognitive behavior therapy and pharmaceuticals. We would alter this, the answer to balancing the brain, reducing the stress is to live a life following our heart not our mind. When we follow our heart, and when we do what God has put in our heart, we will walk in His love, His joy, His peace and His hope. This does not mean it is an easy life, because when we follow our heart we’re usually attacked by our old mind, our old will, our old emotions, the world system around us, and the people around us that are filled with the world system and the old mind, will and emotions themselves.

You always know when you are following your heart because there is great resistance from around you. People think you’re crazy, they think you’re foolish, they think you shouldn’t do what you are doing. But again this is the life of following the heart, it’s not an easy life, but it is an awesome life and you will feel God’s presence manifest powerfully in your life. So when we follow our heart, what overflows from the heart fills the mind. And this is the mind of Christ within us. This is the God mind that flows from the heart.

This is very different from the mind filled with the flesh, the world, religion, the time and space bound mind, the five sense bound mind, the ego filled mind, this is a very different mind. The mind that flows from the heart is one that flows from what God put in the heart. So, our recommendation would not be one of cognitive therapy, and psychotherapy, but one that is still, it sits at the feet of the Lord waiting, on Him speaking into their heart which will fill their mind, their will and their emotions, with the love, the joy and the peace and the hope of God. This brings balance into every part of your being. And then also to contradict the head researcher’s statement that says, pharmaceuticals would be used, we would disagree again with this and we would go back to what the father of medicine, Hippocrates, said, he said, “let your food be your medicine.” “Let your food be your medicine”. Or as Thomas Edison, the genius inventor said, “The Doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and the prevention of disease”.

This is what our prescription would be on that side, and basically to make it very simple as this article closed when they were talking about how the other research has shown that the DNA can be effected by stress and that the psychological stress is related to shortening tips of the DNA which would weaken the immune system and increase aging at a faster rate. What that researcher said was that everything we already know about fighting off chronic disease is what you should expect like getting sufficient sleep, staying active throughout life, and having a healthy diet may stave off premature aging of the immune system. This is a beautiful statement. It’s what we’ve said, and we keep saying. It’s the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health. This is the fountain of youth, this is what will transform us into God’s image and likeness. This is what will keep our body, mind and emotions healthy and healing, and keep us in balance in body, mind and spirit.

Remember stress is a big cause of all disease including cancer. So any disease prevention program, disease reversal program or alternative cancer treatment must address all stress both physical and mental/emotional.

One final comment, stress is not all bad. Other research has shown there’s two types of stress. Eustress, which is good stress and distress which is bad or negative stress. They found that in laboratory animals that were stressed but had a way out, so there was a stress but there was a way to overcome the stress, their immune systems were actually stronger than the animals with no stress at all, and greatly improved were the animals that were stressed with no way of escaping.

If we want to build stronger muscles, we need to stress them with some weight or some activity and that stress of the muscle causes the muscle fiber to grow larger and stronger. So, it’s not that we don’t want any stress, this life we live is filled with stress, but if we don’t live from our minds, but we live from our hearts, we’ll see that all these stresses are just tests that will transform us more into God’s image and likeness. If we do not try to get out of this stress, out of the pain, but we stay in the pain and stress and let God reveal His truth, His word and His power which is His spirit to empower us, to walk this life. This life of Total Health of body, mind and spirit.

A Few Extra Pounds Can Kill You

Being overweight can decrease your life span according to new research that proves that a few extra pounds is harmful.

Baby boomers who were even just a little overweight were more likely to die prematurely than those who were at a healthy weight, according to researchers.
While obesity has been known to contribute to early death, the link between being overweight and dying prematurely has been controversial. Some experts have argued that a few extra pounds does no harm.

However, this is one of the first major studies to account for the factors of smoking and chronic illness, which can complicate efforts to figure out how much weight itself is responsible for early death.

“The cumulative evidence is now even stronger,” said Dr. Michael Thun, chief epidemiologist of the American Cancer Society who had no role in the research. “Being overweight does increase health risks. It’s not simply a cosmetic or social problem.”

An estimated two-thirds of Americans adults are overweight or obese, according to federal statistics. Obesity raises the risk of heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and some cancers. Being overweight increases blood pressure and cholesterol levels, which in turn could lead to heart disease.
In an analysis of 186,000 healthy people — who had never smoked — overweight people were 20 to 40 percent more likely to die prematurely than normal-weight people. The risk increased two- to three-fold for obese people.

In a separate study of 1.2 million Korean patients, ages 30 to 95, researchers from the Yonsei University in South Korea and Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health reported similar findings.

Among about half a million healthy non-smokers, overweight people had a 10 to 50 percent greater risk of dying from heart disease or cancer than normal-weight people.

The two studies clearly show that being overweight “is not a benign condition,” said Dr. Frank Hu, an epidemiologist and obesity researcher at the Harvard School of Public Health.

“The public health message should be loud and clear: Maintaining a healthy weight and preventing weight gain in middle age is important to maintaining longevity,” said Hu, who was not connected to the research.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on A Few Extra Pounds Can Kill You:
Interesting in this study was they found that it wasn’t just obesity that increases the risk of disease and the risk of likelihood of early death. Dr. Michael Thun, chief epidemiologist of the American Cancer Society, who said being overweight does increase health risks. It’s not simply a cosmetic or social problem.   What the study showed was in overweight people, this doesn’t have to be obese, just overweight people, there is 20-40% more likely chance to die prematurely than normal weight people. The risk increased two to three fold for obese people. And this goes against the studies that contradict the controversial research, the federal center for disease control that suggested being a little bit overweight isn’t so bad. So, what is the answer? The answer is obvious. We’re not designed to carry any extra weight. If you look at the animal kingdom, the only animals that have any extra weight is for a protective mechanism or for insulation. So animals don’t carry fat. Animals are lean and healthy because they eat a living/raw plant based diet or they eat other animals alive. They don’t eat cooked food which turns into excessive calories and weight. They get all exercise and they live a naturally healthy lifestyle, because that’s what nature is.

How can we avoid excessive pounds if we live the 7 Basic Steps? Especially of the 7 Basic Steps that we make sure we eat a living/raw plant based diet, which is very difficult to be overweight when you eat this diet, in fact, near impossible unless you have other hormonal or glandular problems. Number 2 we have to get to sleep, the hormonal system goes out of balance and in it is proven that people can become thyroid imbalanced and increased weight and decrease immune system function by not getting the proper amount of sleep which is 9.5 hours, which at least 3 ½ hours should be before midnight. The next one is exercise which is critical. And the more we exercise, the more we move the body the more calories we burn. And then of course, fasting and detoxification. Fasting will lead to weight loss but so will detoxification because a lot of people retain weight and fluid because the body is holding on to the fluid to delete the toxins that are in the system. And then a lifestyle of prayer and meditation is one that reduces stress and when stress is reduced a person eats less and gains less weight and also when stress is reduced, inflammation is reduced. All health challenges including, being overweight and obese, they would be reduced.

Foods Could Make Arthritis Worse

The production of antibodies to certain foods is greatly increased in the gut of many patients with rheumatoid arthritis, Norwegian researchers report. It may be that hypersensitivity to certain foods leads to a flare-up in the joints. Dr. Per Brandtzaeg of Rikshospitalet, Oslo and colleagues found that people with rheumatoid arthritis often feel there is an association between food intake and disease severity. He said that “intake of certain food stuffs could intensify the inflammatory joint reaction to produce clinical symptoms.” They studied samples of blood and intestinal fluids from 14 rheumatoid arthritis patients and 20 healthy “controls”. The researchers found that systemic and intestinal immune responses were abnormal in many rheumatoid arthritis patients. The elevated level of food antibodies in gut secretions was “particularly striking,” they report in the medical journal Gut. Specifically, the team identified antibodies to components of milk, eggs, pork and fish. The conclusion, “there may be physical, immunological explanation for such complaints “rather than a mere psychological basis.”

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on Food could make arthritis worse.
This article showed that with rheumatoid arthritis, which is an auto immune disease, which is an inflammatory disease, they specifically found that milk, eggs, pork and fish caused the rheumatoid arthritis to get worse. Very interesting, because these are all animal products and animal products are inflammatory and they cause inflammation in the body and as this study showed, inflammation in the joints. We can extend this in seeing what the ideal diet is for all human kind. It is a living/raw plant based diet which is the greatest, or most anti inflammatory diet available. It is the diet that all animals eat that don’t get cancer, heart disease, diabetes, lung conditions and most all things that kill people. So, milk is the number one allergen which will cause inflammation. Milk has casein, which is a glue like substance that will affect the sinuses, respiratory tract and digestive tract. But also, it will trigger inflammation throughout the whole body and increase the risk of developing inflammatory diseases, like rheumatoid arthritis in the study. The same with eggs, pork and fish. All because this cooked animal proteins produce antibodies that cause inflammation in the body. A side note is interesting that even fish did this. There is so much spoken of the health benefits of fish, remember, fish is still an animal protein that will cause inflammation, as this study showed and will aggravate rheumatoid arthritis. So the rule of eating food is, or doing any health promoting activity is, do things that have all good and no bad. So, if we are to eat fish, which they say has the Omega 3 essential fatty acids which are necessary for health, the problem is we eat the fish for that, but we’re not taking into account that the animal protein can trigger the antibody reaction, and trigger the inflammation of auto immune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. And also remember the high mercury content which is in fish. This is why fish is not recommended to be eaten by pregnant women. So do not choose something for your total health that might have a good effect on one side, but multiple negative effects on the other, it is not a proper choice. Whereas, milk, eggs and pork and all other beef and animal products, they don’t have anything for the most part that is beneficial for the health, in the long term because they increase cholesterol, they increase risk of cancer, thus causing a need for alternative cancer treatment, heart disease, diabetes and same thing with eggs and dairy products, increasing the risk of disease because they increase the amount of inflammation in the body. So, this can all be changed, we can change these diseases. Studies have shown that rheumatoid arthritis can be cleared by adopting a living/raw plant based diet.

So in closing, if you want to eat the diet that will not only bring you to the ideal body weight, give you the most energy and vitality, be the most anti inflammatory diet, and be the most disease protective, preventative and corrective, that would be a living/raw plant based diet. The diet that was to be consumed by all people who were placed on this planet as can be seen on the diet that was give to Adam and Eve originally in the garden. Always remember God’s first plan was His recommended plan. All other plans after that were secondary.

Chemical in Drinking Water Causes Cancer

Growing scientific evidence suggests the most widespread industrial contaminant in drinking water — a solvent used in adhesives, paint and spot removers — can cause cancer in people.

The National Academy of Sciences reported that a lot more is known about the cancer risks and other health hazards from exposure to trichloroethylene (TCE) than there was five years ago when the Environmental Protection Agency took steps to regulate it more strictly.

TCE, which is also widely used to remove grease from metal parts in airplanes and to clean fuel lines at missile sites, is known to cause cancer in some laboratory animals. EPA was blocked from elevating its assessment of the chemical’s risks in people by the Defense Department, Energy Department and NASA, all of which have sites polluted with it.

TCE is a colorless liquid that evaporates at room temperatures and has a somewhat sweet odor and taste. It is one of the most common pollutants found in the air, soil and water at U.S. military bases. Until the mid-1970s, it also was used as a surgical anesthetic.

It also has been found at about 60 percent of the nation’s worst contaminated sites in the Superfund cleanup program, the academy said.

A committee of academy experts said “a large body of epidemiologic data is available” on TCE showing the chemical is a possible cause of kidney cancer, reproductive and developmental damage, impaired neurological function and autoimmune disease.

“The committee found that the evidence on carcinogenic risk and other health hazards from exposure to trichloroethylene has strengthened since 2001,” the report said. “Hundreds of waste sites are contaminated with trichloroethylene, and it is well documented that individuals in many communities are exposed to the chemical, with associated health risks.”
– Associated Press

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on chemicals in drinking water causes cancer.
What this article showed was the chemical trichloroethylene abbreviated TCE, has been increasingly showing up in water sources and this chemical, is a possible cause of: kidney cancer, reproductive and developmental damage, impaired neurological function and auto immune disease. Important thing to understand is it’s not just one chemical it’s all chemicals. We live in a chemical world now, and all these chemicals are leaking down into the ground water, which is the water that we all draw our source from. So the problem is the more we toxify and pollute the world, the more it increases our risk of all cancer and all diseases. It begins with changing our world, to change the government, to put greater restrictions, and that is a noble task and one that should be undergone. But, on a personal level, what can you do right now that is going to affect the toxicity of the water.

We recommend two things. First of all don’t let regular tap water ever touch your food, don’t let regular tap water ever enter your body, don’t ever shower with regular tap water unless it is filtered.

We recommend for whole house water filtration systems, at least carbon tank on the whole system. This is for all water in the house. We also recommend a two carbon tank system, which not only filters out general chlorine, and general chemicals, but the second type of carbon tank will filter out the more refined chemicals like MTBE gasoline derivative in ground water that is also linked to certain types of cancers.

Another very easy step to take is, and most important, are using a shower filter on the shower, which we recommend the Showerwise unit, because this will filter out a majority of all chlorine that comes through the standard water and other chemicals. Remember in a standard 20 minute shower with hot water, your skin and body absorbs up to 2-3 pounds of water and not only that is going into your body through your skin, but you are also breathing the fumes, the chlorinated vapors which is highly toxic to the body. This can be alleviated with the Showerwise shower system, very easily installed.

Now the other thing is, the most important of all, is the water that you drink. The water that you drink has to be the purest water on the planet, devoid of all chemicals and toxins. The water that we found that fulfills these requirements is steamed distilled post carbon filtered water. The unit which we recommend the Waterwise 8800 unit. What this unit does is not only distills the water, it filters it after distillation. Because even in distilled water, which is the purest water, some volatile organic compounds can make it past the distillation and still be in the water, so with the post carbon filtration is filters our any residual chemical that could have past through the distillation process.

This steamed distilled post carbon filtered water is the purest water that you can drink, and this is the one we recommend not only for detox purposes, but just to keep the body healthy. So, to sum this all up. The water is toxic, you cannot drink it, you cannot bathe with it. You cannot do much with it if it has not gone through some filtration. The highest filtration, of course, has to be for water that we drink. This is the steamed distilled post carbon filter water, but you should have water filters on your showers, and possibly carbon tanks as a whole water system on your house. And remember water is one of the Seven Basic Steps to Total Health

Anger Speeds Up Deterioration of the Lungs

Lung capacity normally declines as a person ages but being angry can speed up the process according to new research.

In a study of 670 men ranging in age from 45 to 86, they found that males who had higher levels of long-standing anger at the start of the eight-year project had significantly poorer lung function at the end of it.

“This study is one of the first to show prospectively that hostility is associated with poorer pulmonary function and more rapid rates of decline among older men,” said Dr Rosalind Wright, of Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts.

Even after taking account of other factors such as smoking that can also have an impact on lung power, hostility and anger had a negative effect.

Anger, hostility and stress have also been associated with heart disease, asthma and other ailments.

Wright and her team suggested that the negative emotions could change biological process and may disturb the immune system and cause chronic inflammation.

“Stress-related factors are known to depress the immune function and increase susceptibility to or exacerbate a host of diseases and disorders,” said Dr Paul Lehrer, of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, in an editorial in the journal.

He added that it is unknown how chronic anger contributes to physical deterioration but said the researchers established a link between chronic anger and age-related deterioration in lung function.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on anger speeds up deterioration of the lungs.
This research confirmed the link between mind, emotion and body. Everything in your health, your total health has a body, mind, and emotion connection. It’s nice to see it backed up in the research. In this study it showed that males that had a higher levels of long standing anger, had significantly poor lung function in the eight year project of studying them. What the research team showed, was that negative emotions could change biological process. That may disturb the immune system and cause chronic inflammation. Also it showed that stress related factors are known to depress the immune function, increase the susceptibility to or exacerbate a host of disease and disorders. So what is this saying? What you do to the mind you do to the body and also reverse what you do to the body you do to the mind. So, if I’m under stress, if I’m holding anger and hostility, I’m going to cause inflammation in my body and that inflammation is going to lead to a weakened body, more susceptible to inflammation and disease of the immune system and all other systems of the body. So, this actually physically showed it in the research how mind affects body, but also on the other side, body affects mind. What you do to the body you do to the mind. This can be seen very easily from a diet point of view.   See how kids react the day after Halloween and the day after Easter when they receive all the refined sugar from candy. Teachers will tell you these are the worst days of the school years. Kids are hyperactive, they exhibit attention deficit disorder, and they are very unmanageable on those days. So, the mental, emotional pattern was dictated by the diet or the food that went into the body physically. So one must live a total health lifestyle which revolves around the
Seven Basic Steps to Total Health™.

When we live the 7 Basic Steps each and every day we are leading a healthy lifestyle that will balance the body, the mind and emotions. So, we will know that when we live the 7 Basic Steps we’re taking care of the physical body which will balance the mind and emotions, and then also we know that when we’re living a life that is connected to God and this is where the prayer, meditation and stillness come in, that reduces the mental, emotional stresses, the angers, the hostilities and that in turn will help heal the physical body.

Spirituality Can Boost Your Health

To stay healthy, you probably know that you need to eat right, get plenty of exercise and rest, and avoid bad habits such as smoking.

But, it might surprise you to learn that what you believe in can have a big impact on your health and longevity.

“There have been a lot of studies, and more are coming out all of the time, that show how patients with strong spirituality can improve their health from a variety of chronic conditions, like hypertension, heart disease, recovery from surgery and more,” said Dr. Michael Torosian, a surgical oncologist at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, and co-author of the book, Spirit to Heal.

“Spirituality is where people find meaning in their life. It’s something higher than themselves, though not necessarily attached to religion,” said Patricia Megregian, a board-certified chaplain and executive director of the Integrative Medicine Initiative at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Wherever your spirituality comes from, research indicates there are real health benefits:

  • People with high levels of religious beliefs or spirituality have lower cortisol responses. Cortisol is a hormone the body releases in response to stress.
  • Spirituality and the practice of religion have recently been associated with a slower progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Those who regularly attend organized religious activities may live longer than those who don’t. Regular participation lowers mortality rate by about 12 percent a year.
  • People undergoing cardiac rehabilitation feel more confident and perceive greater improvements in their physical abilities if they have a strong faith.
  • Increased levels of spirituality and religious faith may help substance abusers kick their habit.

What’s not known is exactly how spirituality or a positive outlook can cause these changes. According to Torosian, there are two popular theories. The first is known as the relaxation response. When the body is relaxed, your heart rate, blood pressure and breathing rate all go down, which decreases the body’s stress response. The other theory is that spirituality can affect immune-system function.

“Spirituality, faith, church attendance improves immune function in ways that can be measured, like an increase in white blood cells,” he said.

“When it comes to health, when the body feels safe and is at ease, the nervous system is able to quiet and be more normal. Then the immune system is able to function better,” said Megregian. “When the body is safe and feels safe, all of its other functions can help combat disease.”

Torosian added, “As a surgeon, I see cancer patients all the time trying to deal with a devastating diagnosis. Those with a strong faith seem to do much better and handle it better. Spirituality is something that can help all the way from promoting wellness to helping with recovery.”

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on spirituality can boost your health.
Very interesting study again linking body, mind and spirit on what they have consistently shown that people with strong spirituality can improve their health from a variety of chronic health conditions. What the studies have shown are people with high levels of religious beliefs or spirituality have lower cortisol responses, and again cortisol is a hormone that the body releases in response to stress. Spirituality and practice of religion have recently been associated with lower progression of Alzheimer ’s disease. Those who have regularly attend organized religious activities may live longer than those who don’t. Regular participation lowers mortality rate by 12% a year. People undergoing cardiac rehabilitation feel more confident and perceive greater improvement in their physical abilities if they have a strong faith. And increased levels of spirituality or religious faith may help substance abusers kick their habits. According to the research they said that spirituality, faith and church attendance improve immune function in ways that can be measured. Like an increase of white blood cells. So this shows how one affects the other.

Now it is important to look at the difference between faith and religion. Faith is believing what God has put in your heart and taking the action steps and walking in that direction knowing that God is leading and directing you. It is a oneness with God, it is apart from a religious activity or service, or congregation. This is personal. So when we live a life of the heart, following what God has put in our hearts this is faith and this is the potential to reverse not only all physical, but all mental and emotional challenges as well. With faith, all things are possible. Faith is the opposite of fear. Faith is of the heart, fear is of the mind. Fear is an emotion that is produced when we are future thinking. So, the difference between that and religion, how religion improves health is just because religion is a comfort of being with other people of common beliefs. So, if I go to a religious service and with friends that believe the same as I do, there is a comfort in that, there is a comfort in the social aspects of it, which also can produce beneficial effects in health, but again, the thing that will transform a persons life the most, and reverse the most major diseases, and produce the highest level of total health of body, mind and spirit is not religion, but it is true faith. True faith, following what God has put in the heart, instead of what the world system has put into the head. And the basis of all the total health being established in the body is the
Seven Basic Steps to Total Health.

So to summarize, the study shows yes, spirituality and religion can balance body, mind, emotions and spirit. And balance the whole system, but truly it is the faith that brings you to the highest level because the faith is walking out what God has put into the heart, instead of what the world system has programmed into the head. Whereas religion will have beneficial effects in health, but more so because of being amongst others in a common group, a social setting, feeling the support of each other. Faith is feeling the total support and connection and oneness with God.

Body Acceptance Tied to Healthy Eating

Women who accept their bodies, flaws and all, are more likely to eat healthily or intuitively, new research shows. This suggests that women’s typical reasons for dieting — dissatisfaction with their bodies — may backfire.

“There is a lot of negative body talk among women; women think that they can best lose weight and feel better if they are first dissatisfied with their bodies,” Dr. Tracy Tylka told Reuters Health. “Rather, this research shows that adopting a positive body image is more likely to be associated with intuitive eating.”

Intuitive eaters don’t diet — they recognize and respond to internal hunger and fullness cues to regulate what and how much they eat, Tylka explained. Intuitive eating has three components: “unconditional permission to eat when hungry and whatever food is desired; eating for physical rather than emotional reasons; and reliance on internal hunger/fullness cues.”

Tylka, an assistant professor of psychology at Ohio State University’s Marion campus has conducted several studies on the concept of intuitive eating. In one study published in April involving 199 college-aged women, Tylka found that women who followed intuitive eating principles had a slightly lower body weight than women who did not.

“Intuitive eating was negatively associated with body mass, such that people who ate intuitively weighed less than people who dieted,” she said.

The studies found, among nearly 600 college women, that those with higher levels of appreciation and acceptance for their body were more likely to be intuitive eaters.

Intuitive eaters spend less time thinking about how their body appears to others and more time considering how their body feels and functions, Tylka observed. They “perceive the body as an agent of action rather than an object of attraction…focusing on how the body functions rather than its appearance,” according to Tylka.

Intuitive eating, Tylka’s found, is “positively associated with psychological well-being, such as self-esteem, positive emotions, adaptive coping, self-acceptance, optimism, and resilience in the face of stress.”

Intuitive eaters also reported receiving more positive messages from parents and others regarding their bodies.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on Body acceptance tied to healthy eating.
Interesting in this study was they compared the women who accept their bodies for “flaws and alls” they said, are more likely to eat healthy or intuitively. It also suggests that women typically eat or go on a diet because of dissatisfaction with their bodies usually do not lose the weight. So what the study showed was, intuitive eating has three components, unconditional, permission to eat when hungry and whatever food is desired. Now add a side note to this. Whatever food is desired is when you are really in tune with your body, the body will know what it needs. It doesn’t mean because I want ice cream that’s what I should eat, or because I want cookies, that’s what I should eat.

When you very in tuned with your body, you body will crave the things that are healthy for it, but common sense knows what those healthy things are. It’s a living/raw plant based diet and it’s a diet that is the void of harmful substances like refined sugars, and such. The second component was eating for physical rather than emotional reasons. The third was reliance on internal hunger and fullness cues. They didn’t just eat three times a day, they ate when they felt a need to eat. This was intuitive eating, and they felt to eat what their body was hungry for when they were in tune to their body, and it wasn’t just emotional eating or sugar cravings or wrong food cravings. And what this study published found that women who followed this intuitive eating had lower body weight that women who did not.

Interesting in this study is it’s basically just showing that when women lose weight because they are dissatisfied with their bodies, it’s almost always a fear factor. They’re eating out of fear of becoming more overweight and being even more dissatisfied with their body. Whereas, on the positive side, when a woman would eat intuitively, they are accepting their body for what it is, they’re not eating for their body, their eating just as the body would tell them. This is a much healthier way of eating, and there’s research studies to show a more significant weight loss. And that’s because they are not focusing on weight, they’re focusing on health. This is a very key point not only in weight loss but in total health. In total health when we focus on our health and our healing, instead of our sickness and disease, this, this promotes total health. So, you can extend it to any area of your life, or health. When we focus on health, when we focus on the positive and not the negative this will promote a much greater benefit in every area of our life.

This is focusing on health. This is the approach that we would take in all sickness and disease. First focus on health. So, if a person has cancer, the first focus is not, “I have to get rid of the cancer”, the first focus is “I have to be as healthy as God created me to be” and when I do the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health, and I remove all the blockages and become as healthy as I can be, then my body can naturally heal all diseases including cancer. What a beautiful way to look at life. To look at it from God’s point of view instead of our blocked, old nature view. Which is always in fear and always stressed and always looking at the negative. So again, the best way to lose weight is the best way to become healthy, the best way to live your life, which is just focus on all that makes health and being healthy in body, mind and spirit, and not focusing on the negativity or the disease or the sickness or the imbalance.

How Central Nervous System Regulates Arthritis

In a unique approach to inflammation research, a study by researchers at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine shows that, in a model of rheumatoid arthritis, inflammation in the joints can be sensed and modulated by the central nervous system (CNS). The research suggests that the CNS can profoundly influence immune responses, and may even contribute to understanding so-called placebo effects and the role of stress in inflammatory diseases.

The central nervous system is fully able to control many previously unanticipated physiologic responses, including immunity and inflammation,” said Gary S. Firestein, M.D., Professor of Medicine, Chief of the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology, and Director of UCSD’s Clinical Investigation Institute.

The UCSD research team found that blocking key signaling enzymes in the CNS of rats resulted in decreased joint inflammation and destruction.

“This is an entirely new approach,” Firestein said. Instead of targeting enzymes at the actual site of disease, our hypothesis is that the central nervous system is a controlling influence for the body and can regulate peripheral inflammation and immune responses.”

For many years, researchers have explored developing therapeutic targets by blocking the function of a signaling enzyme called p38 MAP kinase throughout the body. This enzyme regulates cytokines proteins released in response to stress that regulate inflammation in patients with arthritis.

“We observed that the p38 signal is turned on, or activated, in the central nervous system during peripheral inflammation,” Firestein said. “If we blocked this enzyme exclusively in a highly restricted site but not throughout in the body, inflammation in the joints was significantly suppressed.”

Not only were clinical signs of arthritis diminished in those rats where p38 inhibitors were administered into the spinal fluid, but damage to the joint was also markedly decreased. The same dose of the inhibitors administered systemically had no effect.
PLOS Medicine

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on how the central nervous system regulates arthritis.
This very interesting study showed that the central nervous system definitely affects the immune system in the inflammatory response in the whole body. This model was with rheumatoid arthritis but extends to all types of immune diseases, auto immune diseases, and inflammatory related diseases. Remember inflammation is the root of all disease, so if the central nervous system affects inflammation, then the central nervous system affects all diseases. It’s important to understand that your nervous system is the first system developed when you were in utero, developing inside your mother. It’s the nervous system itself controls all other systems.

This study showed that the nervous system also controls the amount of inflammation that is made in the body. The interesting thing in this study, was that, they used to target the inflammation at the site of inflammation as in rheumatoid arthritis they would try to affect it in the joint itself, or they would try to affect it in the intestinal tract which is a bigger area but still highly related to rheumatoid arthritis, but in this study, they found that when they targeted the blocking of the enzymes in the nervous system, it decreased the inflammation throughout the whole body showing up in decrease of the signs of the rheumatoid arthritis. Interesting stated in this study was, they said that, not only were clinical signs of arthritis diminished in those rats that the P38 inhibitors were administered into the spinal fluid, but damage to the joint was also markedly decreased. Basically, it decreased the inflammation and the damage from the inflammation. The same dose of the inhibitors administered systemically had no effect, which means when they gave it just to the general body, it didn’t have an effect. But when they put it in the spinal fluid, which meant it went to the central nervous system and the entire nervous system, this caused decreased inflammation.

So what does this mean to you?

This means that you need to balance your nervous system and the most important balancing of the nervous system comes from the thought processes. As it says, “as a man thinks in his heart, so is he”. So, we want to think with our heart and not with our mind and when we have things in our mind we want to make sure that they are not things that cause us to live in the future or the past, or things that stimulate fear or any other negative emotions, because this in turn will cause a stimulation of the nervous system in a negative way. Fear will be produced and cause a suppressing of the immune system, fear causes more inflammation. Whereas on the positive side, if we are thinking with our mind with what God has put into heart then we are walking in total inner peace, causing the least amount of inflammation production our body, and our immune system and our nervous system will be functioning at the highest level in our body, to maintain all systems of the body.

So, very important for you to understand, that you have to follow your heart, not your mind. The heart is where God speaks; it is where the truth is put into you. The mind is where the world speaks. The world system of lies speaks to your mind. From the mind, the negative emotions of fear are elicited. So when you believe on lies, lies produce the negative emotion of fear. But when you believe on the truth in your heart that elicits the spiritual states of being of joy, peace and love, and these will produce total health in body, mind and spirit. So what can you do to decrease inflammation in your body? To balance the nervous system? To increase your immune system response? You can live the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health each and every day and get a deep revelation of them.

Raw Food Eaters Have Higher Levels of Key Nutrients

People who eat plenty of salads, or raw vegetables in general, typically have higher blood levels of several important nutrients, according to a large study of U.S. adults.
Researchers found that even one serving of raw vegetables a day moved people closer to getting the recommended amounts of vitamins A, E, B6 and folic acid. And as salad and raw vegetable intake increased, so did blood levels of vitamins C and E, folic acid and several carotenoids — antioxidants that give yellow, orange and red hues to many vegetables and fruits.

Unfortunately, few Americans regularly eat raw vegetables, according to the researchers, led by Dr. L. Joseph Su of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans.

Of the nearly 18,000 U.S. adults surveyed, only 18 percent to 38 percent said they ate salads. White women younger than 45 had the highest rate; older African Americans had the lowest.

Overall, salad and vegetable consumers had higher blood levels of a range of nutrients — 15 percent higher, on average, than people who did not eat raw vegetables. They were also two to three times more likely to meet the recommended daily intake for vitamin C.

Color is key; dark leafy greens mingled with red and yellow vegetables are best. Stay away from iceberg lettuce and croutons.

The findings should also help allay any concerns about the body’s ability to absorb certain nutrients from raw vegetables, according to the researchers. Water-soluble vitamins, like vitamin C and many B vitamins, are heat-sensitive, and it’s better to get them through raw vegetables, Arab explained.
-Journal of the American Dietetic Association

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on raw food eaters have higher levels of key nutrients.
The interesting thing in this study was that the people that ate raw vegetables and salads had a much higher level of certain vital vitamin and mineral nutrients in their blood. The other thing that was interesting in this study was showing that many people, and even researchers have said, the body might not be able to absorb the nutrients from raw vegetables, but this research showed the reverse, raw vegetables and salads were the highest nutrient containers and absorbed normally into the body and should be eaten on a daily basis.

To further comment on this, it’s obvious that there is no question in diet, there never has been from the creation of mankind. When God created Adam and Eve in the garden, He created the perfect diet, which was in Genesis 1:29-31, which is green plants for food for everything that has breath of life in it. So, we were created to eat a plant based diet. It is the diet, the first diet and it is the diet that all medical research has shown that promotes the highest level of health and reversing the most amount of disease and disease processes.

Living/raw vegetables are anti-inflammatory, they are high in nutrients and they do absorb into the body normally. So, a diet that is one of living/raw plant based food, is a diet that will promote the highest level of heath, the highest level of nutrients in the body, the lowest amount of inflammation, the highest amount of boost into the immune system, this is critical in keeping at the highest level of health and being a part of an alternative cancer treatment. So remember, the more living/raw plant based food that you eat, the higher your level of health will be and the lower the amount of inflammation will be in your body, and remember that inflammation is the root of all disease. The way to decrease the inflammation in your body is to live the Seven Basic Steps to Total Health each and every day.

Spirituality May Help Lower Blood Pressure

Religion and spirituality may have a positive effect on blood pressure, according to a study of more than 5,300 Americans.

Researchers found that people in the Jackson (Miss.) Heart Study who were involved with or participated in religious activities had significantly lower blood pressure than people who did not, even though the people involved in religious activities were more likely to have high blood pressure, higher body mass index (BMI) scores, and lower levels of adherence to medications.

Cardiovascular health risks are widely recognized, and hypertension is the most prominent risk factor in the development of cardiovascular disease Americans.

“Our findings show that the integration of religion and spirituality — attending church and praying — may buffer individuals exposed to stress and delay the deleterious effects of hypertension. These practices can be useful for individuals to incorporate into their daily lives,” the lead researcher said.

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec’s comments on spirituality may help lower blood pressure.
Interesting in this article was the researchers found that religion and spirituality had a positive effect on high blood pressure in lowering the levels. We just want to make a few comments in this study. First thing is the difference between religion and spirituality. First of all the key factor that makes a change in ones total health is not religion. It is not attending church services. It is not being a part of a group, whether it is a religious group or a social group. Studies have shown that being with people, being in these atmospheres does have a positive effect on health, because when you are with people, you have more support from people, whether it is from a church group or a social group. They have shown that this has positive effects on health. But this is not what truly will transform a person’s life and this is not what spirituality really is. So religion, going to religious services can have the positive effects on health because of the social interaction and support.

What we want to talk about is the major impact in your health is your relationship with God, not religion, but your relationship with God, or your spirituality. When we ask Him into our lives, the living God who created us sustains us and who creates all and sustains all. When we enter the covenant relationship of marriage with Him, we now have opened up the communion or the communication lines. And the most important part of our total health is learning to be still and know the voice of God. To be still and hear His voice spoken into the heart and that can only happen when we learn to still our mind, our conscious thinking, raging, racing mind.

When we learn to still the mind and follow the heart, what God speaks to the heart, this will transform every aspect of our total health from our spirit to our soul to our body. To every aspect of our spirit, soul and body health. This is very different than positive thinking, or support from others in a group. This is the total health that is a byproduct of our walk with God and our communion with God. So, yes health will always be effected when we are with other people, whether it is a religious group or social group that supports us, but more importantly our total health will be transformed when we learn how to be still and sit and His feet and listen to what He is speaking to our heart. And how do we know He is speaking into our heart? Use these general guidelines:

  1. It will not be comfortable to our mind; it will not make sense to our mind. It will usually make us feel uncomfortable in the mind, uneasy in the mind and it won’t be well accepted by others. Remember when God puts something in the heart; it is usually the opposite of what the world system would put in your mind. So if it makes you feel uncomfortable, if it makes you feel uneasy, if it makes you feel unstable, if it seems to not make sense, these are all indicators that God is speaking into the heart. Because the things of the heart are not things of the mind. Things of the Spirit are not things of the flesh.
  2. Another general indicator is to never operate in fear. When we are operating in fear we’re operating form our old mind. Only make your decisions in faith and peace and things that bring love, joy and peace in your heart, not in your mind. Remember the things that bring peace in our heart don’t necessarily bring peace in our mind.

So, when we follow our heart we just know that we know that we know that it’s right. Even if the world and everyone in the world and our old lie filled mind tries to talk us out of it, we just know that it’s right. Kind of like if you fell in love with someone and you knew it was right and everyone said no that’s not right you shouldn’t do that. You know the whole world and everyone around you could tell you it’s not right, but you know in your heart that is right. And that’s why you step out and do it. And this is how we should live our lives. Living our lives from our heart, what God has spoken to our heart.
