The Power of Parsley

Parsley is not only used as a condiment and as a garnish, but it is also used as a flavoring and is used for medicinal purposes.   Parsley is used for urinary tract infections (UTIs), kidney stones (nephrolithiasis), gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, constipation, jaundice, intestinal gas (flatulence), indigestion, colic, diabetes, cough, asthma, fluid retention (edema), osteoarthritis, anemia, high blood pressure, prostate conditions, and spleen conditions. It is also used as a breath freshener.

Some people apply parsley directly to the skin for cracked or chapped skin, bruises, tumors, insect bites, and to stimulate hair growth.

Parsley is a well-known herb that most people think of as just a garnish. It can also lower your risk of cancer, enhance your immune system, and reduce inflammation. Parsley is rich in a flavonoid phytochemical known as apigenin which has been shown to reduce certain cancers, such as skin, breast and prostate cancer. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.

Parsley’s essential oils have been proven to suppress overstimulated immune responses, which makes it important to calm allergies and autoimmune and persistent inflammatory disorders. Eugenol, one of the oils found in parsley, has been shown to have anti-arthritic properties. This oil, combined with the anti-inflammatory benefits of parsley, can significantly reduce joint swelling.

Parsley contains a significant amount of the B vitamin folic acid, also known as folate, which reduces homocysteine (an amino acid that can damage blood vessels) in our bodies, thus lowering the risk of stroke, heart attack and atherosclerosis (thickening of artery walls).

Along with drinking cranberry juice, parsley also acts as an antibiotic alternative to be used at the first signs of urinary tract infection. Two compounds found in parsley, apigenin and myristicin, boost the production of a liver enzyme which can detox your body. Parsley is full of chlorophyll, which has antibacterial properties. That is why people eat the parsley sprig from their plates after a meal. It fights oral bacteria that cause bad breath.

The beauty of God’s food is that it is so simple yet so powerful. Isn’t ironic that parsley is used to make a plate in a restaurant look pretty yet most people do not eat it when in fact it would have been the most health promoting food they could have eaten in their meal.

The rule for staying healthy: Eat food in its original state and eat it as green as possible. Parsley passes both of these and that is why it has so many health benefits. So start adding some to your salads put some in your smoothies and green drinks and add it to your home made salad dressing which can be as simple as blending cucumbers, parsley and lime juice as a light and refreshing dressing.

The Environment of Health

In the last 30 years of treating patients one question has always been asked by my patients “Dr. Nemec how did I get this condition or disease?”

And this is how I explain to them that the condition or disease is not the problem it is only the effect of a bad cellular environment. This is like the computer science or information and communications technology phrase “garbage in, garbage out” meaning whatever you put in is going to come out in the program. Your cells work in communication technology also just a million times more advanced.

So to answer the question: You have this condition or disease because you put garbage in and made a bad environment around your cells which caused them to malfunction into your present state. You have 50 trillion cells and if you put garbage in then a certain percent of those cells are going to die prematurely- this is know as inflammation. If the cellular environment does not change then the inflammation will progress through 6 stages until it culminates with full blown disease.

The good news is that YOU put the garbage in (whether you knew it or not) and YOU can clean up the garbage and make a new health promoting cellular environment which means the cells, tissues, glands, organs and systems will respond to the pure environment by restoring your health and vitality. Almost every cell in your body is replaced in one year. This is like planting new seeds of total health. What you plant today can produce a harvest of health 6 months to one year from now.

Genes are the blueprints and that is all. You are not your genes or your heredity. If you change your environment you will change the expression of your genes.

Experiments have shown that stem cells which are base cells, identical clone cells, when put into different environments in a Petri dish, the same exact cell, but changing the environment that the cell was in, the cells themselves changed form. One environment caused the same identical clone cell to become a muscle cell that would contract. When the environment is switched, it causes them to change into another form which would be a bone cell, yet another change in the environment would cause the same cloned cell, identical cell, to cause them to turn in to be a fat cell.

When you change the environment you can actually change the cells. This is tremendous because all you have to do to reverse symptoms, conditions and diseases is change your environment. Change your environment physically, but also change our environment mentally and emotionally, change how you perceive your environment.

What air, water and food are you putting into your body? Are you getting the proper sleep and exercise? Are you living a fasted lifestyle? Do you spend regular time in prayer, meditating on the Word and being still so you can hear His voice spoken to your heart?

As a man thinks in his heart so is he.

Health Benefits of Cilantro

Cilantro is an herb that has been in use for medicine and for food for many, many years. Cilantro comes from regions of the Mediterranean and Asia Minor (Turkey).  Cilantro is used in many Mexican recipes and is very easy to add to your daily diet.  Fresh cilantro has more flavor to it and also contains more vitamins than dried.  The seeds of the cilantro are called Coriander and are used as a spice.   Research has determined that cilantro has been used in the reduction of cardiovascular disease and the reducing the risk of certain cancers.  There are antioxidant compounds that are found that protect also against chronic diseases and also contains phytochemical compounds.  Cilantro leaves, root and stem also have been used as an anti-septic and have antibiotic characteristics.  Cilantro also contains quercetin and essential oils which are phytochemical compounds that the plant uses to not get cancer so when you eat these phytochemicals they add to your immune system strength.

Cilantro contains chemical compounds that allow heavy metals to bind together thus aiding in reducing these metals from tissues, blood and organs by elimination. Cilantro can be used as a detoxifier as our bodies have may have an increase of mercury due to metal fillings in teeth and excess fish consumption. Because cilantro contains no cholesterol and is very high with antioxidants and essential oils it aids in the reduction of bad cholesterols and increases the levels of good cholesterol and assists in our digestive system.  It contains vitamins such as A, C, B6, E, K, folic acid, beta carotene, niacin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, thiamin and riboflavin.  Vitamin C is important as it is an antioxidant.  Vitamin A is important in the protection from lung cancers.  Vitamin K helps has been linked with increasing bone mass and aiding in the treatment of Alzheimer’s.  Minerals in cilantro include calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, zinc and potassium.

The following are known benefits of cilantro and research is adding more to these lists. Cilantro is an anti-inflammatory that can aid in arthritis symptoms.  Cilantro can help with the hormonal mood swings that can be associated with menstruation and can aid in the reduction of menstrual cramping.  Cilantro can give help stomach upset, feeling of nausea and can aid in decreasing urinary tract infections, and may give relief for diarrhea.  Cilantro can lower blood sugar, and increases liver function.  One other health benefit of cilantro is that can aid in reducing conjunctivitis, macular degeneration and other eye stressors.

What to do if you ever get diagnosed with cancer

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”]
[et_pb_row admin_label=”row”]
[et_pb_column type=”4_4″]
[et_pb_text admin_label=”Text”]
The lifetime risks of developing and dying from certain cancers for men and women according to the US National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Database, which is based on incidence and mortality data for the United States for the most current years for which data are available.

For a man it is 43.31% or 1 in 2 will develop cancer.

For a woman it is 37.81% or 1 in 3 will develop cancer.

What this means is you have a good chance that cancer will knock on your door sometime in your life but when it does will you be ready?

It is always better to be proactive in your life instead of reactive. This is especially true with a cancer diagnosis. So many of the patients we have seen over the last 32 years at Total Health Institute come in to restore their health after such a devastating diagnosis. The words we hear all too often are these “I was shocked, blown away, completely caught off guard, had no idea, could not believe that this could happen to me”.

Our answer is simple. You live in a toxic environment, toxic air, toxic water and toxic food. You add breaking the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health daily in the mix along with higher than normal stress for prolonged periods of time and the outcome is cancer stem cell production which is the base cancer cell that makes all the other cancer cells.

How many people are going to get diagnosed with cancer? We already stated the SEER statistics that if you are a man 1 out of 2 and if you are a woman 1 out of 3.

Why do we keep saying this? Are we trying to scare you? Are we speaking a doom and gloom message? No.

What we are trying to do is get you proactive so you get healthy, really healthy, beyond what you could ever imagine healthy right now instead of when you get diagnosed with cancer, not when you feel really sick like you might get cancer but right not so you can enjoy life to the full and have energy and vitality from this year forward.

What if we told you there was a way to prevent cancer and all disease, feel full of energy from the time you wake up in the morning until the time you go to sleep in the evening (without sugar or caffeine added), go to your ideal body weight without going on a diet, look and feel at least 10 years younger, have no pain in your body, have a clear mind and a great memory, be stress resistant meaning you are the calm in the midst of any storm, and most importantly you could grow in your relationship with God so you could hear His voice much clearer?

You are thinking this sounds too good to be true or which products can I buy to achieve this?

It is true and you can achieve all of this but it does not come in a bottle or from a product and you cannot buy it but you can learn the steps to attain it and progressively take those steps until they are yours and you own your health.

Is it easy? No otherwise everyone would have it.

Is it easy to go to the Olympics? No otherwise everyone would be there.

Narrow is the road that leads to LIFE and FEW will find it.

Why will only a few find it? Because only a few are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to walk the road that leads to LIFE and total health of body, mind and spirit.

Did God design us to walk this path? Absolutely, He came so that we would have the abundant life, the prosperous life, so that we could live life to the fullest. We call this life- total health of body, mind and spirit.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step and for some it might be a baby step but that doesn’t matter as long as you keep moving forward you will eventually get to your destination. But you have to take the steps no matter how small and keep taking those steps each and every day. Faith without action steps is dead meaning you will not receive or achieve what has been given to you if you do not keep moving in the direction God has put into your heart.

So what are the steps you should take?

  1. Get knowledge– watch this video so you know how cancer works so you are proactive and never have to wait for it to knock on your door or if you already have cancer you know how you can become healthy so cancer does not want to live in you anymore.
  2. Download our complementary 7 Basic Steps to Total Health ebook on our homepage (upper right section) so you can start taking your first steps in your journey. If you do not act you cannot receive what has already been given to you. If you do not move you cannot achieve the destiny that is rightfully yours.
  3. If you have been diagnosed with a major health challenge and would like some guidance call Total Health Institute at 630-871-0000 and let them know you received the “What to do if you ever get diagnosed with cancer” email and wanted to set up a complementary phone consultation.

An ounce of prevention is worth so much more than a pound of cure.

It is up to you to choose life and blessings otherwise you will default into death and curses.

The Health Benefits of Dill

Dill is an herb that contains many vitamin and minerals that has many health benefits. Dill contains folic acid, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin A, Beta-carotene, vitamin c, pantothenic acid pyridoxine, thiamine, calcium, iron, manganese, copper, magnesium, phosphorous and zinc. With the flavonoids included in dill, dill has been used as an antioxidant, antiviral and anti-inflammatory. Dill also contains quercetin which has been studied to aid in the prevention of inflammation and reduces the risk of cancer. The vitamin A in dill is good for healthy skin and vision. Dill contains vitamin C which is important for the protection of cells from free radicals and strengthening the immune system. Dill contains calcium which aids in the increase of bone health which aids in minimizing of osteoporosis and bone density and promotes quicker healing of broken bones.

Dill has been used for treating bronchitis, colds, cough and fever. The essential oils contained in dill and the flavonoids contain natural antihistamines and are considered anticongestive and aid in clearing the respiratory system.

Research has shown those suffering with infections and nerve pain have used dill for treatment. Other treatments for dill use could be for digestive issues including appetite loss, intestinal gas, gallbladder pain, liver issues, kidney disease and urinary tract infections. Research for the use of dill for women and their menstrual cycles indicate that may help in the stabilization of irregular cycles. Because dill has a small amount of natural progesterone it may be used for infertility in women.

Studies for the use of dill as an antimicrobial shows that it can be effective against several bacterial strains including staphylococcus aureus and another study shows that dill can aid in the killing of several strains of fungus including  aspergillus niger and yeast infections such as saccharomyces cerevisiae and candida albicans. The dill leaves and seeds can be used as a breath freshener.

Research on dill and cholesterol have indicated an estimated decrease of 50 points in triacylglycerides and 20% decrease of total cholesterol.

Dill contains eugenol which indicates that diabetics can use dill for aiding in the regulation of blood sugar by decreasing the serum glucose and insulin concentration.

Another benefit of dill and the flavonoids and vitamin B it contains is that the oils contained may aid in certain enzyme secretion that could have calming benefits and aid those with insomnia to get a get additional sleep needed.

Continuous research regarding the antioxidants contained in dill are now focusing on the activation of the enzyme glutathione-s-transferase which has been effective in altering carcinogens which are a protection from cancer.

Dill itself is an herb that is used for adding taste to foods, and the Dill seeds, leaves, and essential oils are continuously being researched for the benefits of healing and detoxifying our bodies.

How can you get dill in easily?  One package of fresh dill, 2 cucumbers,  1 lime, and optional olive oil and jalapeno.  Put the dill in a blender with the two peeled and cut cucumbers and squeeze the juice of one lime into the blender. If you want a little kick to it then add one jalapeno and if you want more traditional oil flavor add olive oil. If you prefer light and fresh then just keep it simple and leave out the jalapeno and olive oil. This tastes great and is huge in nutrition and phytochemicals and antioxidants that counter cancer, candida, bacteria, viruses, decreases inflammation, balances your blood sugar, decreases your cholesterol, helps detoxify your liver and even aids your sleep. The dill must be fresh, not dried. God’s food is medicine indeed let your food be your medicine.

The Health Benefits of Basil

Basil, or otherwise known as Saint Joseph’s Wort, is a herb that belongs to the mint family.   Purdue University researchers revealed a study that basil “contains a wide range of essential oils rich in phenolic compounds and wide array of other natural products including polyphenols such as flavonoids and anthocyanins.”  Basil has elevated amounts of (E)-beta-caryophyllene, which, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology research found useful in the treatment of arthritis and inflammatory bowel diseases.

Several studies have indicated that basil has been used in the reduction of swelling and that it can be helpful in the prevention of aging.  Basil has also been effective at removing molecules and aiding the prevention of damage caused by free radicals in brain, heart and liver. Basil has been used in association with head colds, intestinal digestion, stomach spasms and or loss of appetite, kidney conditions and fluid retention.  Basil has also been used for parasitic infections and in the treatment of insect and snake bites.  Basil increases blood circulation and is rich in antioxidants, and also contains vitamin A, C, K, calcium, iron, magnesium, and potassium.  Basil also contains Vitamin B6, Vitamin E, Copper, Riboflavin, Choline, Thiamin, Niacin, Folate, Manganese, Omega 3 fats and Zinc.   Basils Vitamin A content can aid in eyesight especially those that are low in Vitamin A, as lower levels are known to decrease evening eyesight.  Basil contains lutein and zeaxanthin which aid in the prevention of eye damage.  Basil’s Vitamin K is important for the proteins are that used in healthy tissue growth which would include bone, cartilage, lung and stomach tissues.  Vitamin K aids in assisting the body from blood clots and aids in the prevention of abnormal bruising.

Basil is also used in the protection of unwanted bacterial growth.  Basil’s essential oil contains antimicrobial properties which would be effective on Helicobacter pylori.  Basil is also effective for the growth restriction of Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, Yersinia enterocolitica and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.  Basil is not as strong as amoxicillin, but there are possibility of using basil with other spices in areas were antibiotics are not readily available.  Studies have also indicated that basil can lower oxidative damage which would increase enzymes in one’s system and also aid women with breast cancer.  Basil also benefits  hepatitis.

The flavonoids which are in basil, Orientin and Vicenare have shown to protect the cell structures and chromosomes from radiation damage.

In summary:

Basil is natural medicine that has anti-cancer, anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory properties and prevents DNA damage. It not only has a full spectrum of vitamins and minerals but also powerful phytochemicals that help your brain, heart liver and kidneys as well as aids in digestion. Basil boosts your immune system and helps your eyesight that tastes good and is good for you so blend it with some cucumber and fresh squeezed lime for a light salad dressing and if you want more creamy add an avocado. If you want to give it a little kick add a jalapeno pepper to it. Get away from store bought salad dressings and make them yourself fresh and nutritious and quite a boast to your health. God’s medicine is always the best.

Superfoods that act as computer scanners to monitor cell health

Researchers at the University of Warwick found that the protein, called Nrf2, continually moves in and out of the nuclei of human cells to sense the cell’s health and vitality. When Nrf2 is exposed to threats to the cell’s health it oscillates faster and activates an increase in the cell’s defense mechanism, including raising the levels of antioxidants.

The researchers, from the University’s Warwick Medical School, successfully increased the speed of Nrf2’s movement by introducing health beneficial substances comprised from broccoli-derived sulforaphane and quercetin, which is found in high-levels in onions.

The research team is the first to record the continual movement cycle of Nrf2, which sees the protein oscillate in and out of the cell nucleus once every 129 minutes. When stimulated by health beneficial vegetable-derived substances of broccoli and onion, Nrf2’s cycle sped up to 80 minutes.

Lead researcher says, “The way Nrf2 works is very similar to sensors in electronic devices that rely on continual reassessment of their surroundings to provide an appropriate response. The health benefit of Nrf2 oscillating at a fast speed is that surveillance of cell health is increased when most needed, that is, when cells are under threat.

Antioxidants and Redox Signaling

Comments by Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec on “Superfoods that act as computer scanners to monitor cell health”:

What this research demonstrated is that God’s natural food stimulates the cells to function at the optimally designed level. The Nrf2 protein acts like a computer going in and out of the cell looking for any abnormality in the cell structure or function. At the first sign of any cell duress it activates antioxidant activity that aids in repair and maintenance. The amazing thing is when you eat broccoli and onions the Nrf2 protein’s activity almost doubles. This is huge when maintaining cellular health because cells are constantly being broken down and damaged with free radicals coming in from the environment and those being generated by normal cellular metabolism.

What foods like broccoli and onions do is to simply see the damage quicker and set off the repair order quicker. This can be analogous to a person who has a hole in the bottom of their boat and the water is running in fast. If you take twice as long to stop that leak it might be too late. The boat will either sink or have severe internal damage. When your cells get a hole in their cell membrane they begin to leak fluid from the outside (extracellular) environment into the controlled inside (intracellular) environment. If too much fluid leaks in then the cell membrane ruptures causing the cell to die. With cell health time is always of the essence so why not just speed up the surveillance and repair process by eating some broccoli and onion each day. To this we would add another vegetable that is equally if not more powerful in overall health- garlic.

Not only does raw garlic cause cancer cells, bacteria, viruses and parasites to die it also acts as a prebiotic and a probiotic at the same time and most amazingly it perform the smart bomb function by killing the bad bacteria and yeast in the intestinal tract but growing the good bacteria. Only God’s food could know what to kill and what to grow.

To sum it up:

  1. Eat as much living/raw plant food as possible it has health benefits that are so numerous they have not even started to discover. Make sure you eat some broccoli or even better (50 times better) eat broccoli sprouts. To that add either green or red onions and finally eat as much raw garlic as you can. This can all be put into a salad daily.
  2. The cells have a God given wisdom to remain healthy. If you get back to simple pure food, pure water, good sleep, regular exercise and living fully in each moment then the body will do what it was designed to do which is to always heal and maintain longevity.

Sometimes in our search for health we forget that basics are always best. Just get back to basics and your life and health will work much better.

Saturated Fats Produce Inflammation and Immune Imbalance

New research supports the view that eating large amounts of saturated fat is unhealthy. The Department of Medicine at Imperial College London conducted a study on mice that have an unusually high level of saturated fat circulating in their blood. Results showed that the presence of saturated fat in the blood caused monocytes (a type of white blood cell) to migrate into the tissues of vital organs. Once in the organs, the migrated monocytes are turned into macrophages, some of which went on to absorb fat and transform into ‘foam cells’. Both the foam cells and macrophages then trigger the production of a signaling molecule called CCL4, which attracts more monocytes into the tissue.

This process continues until the level of saturated fats in the blood return to normal. It is thought that this mechanism has evolved to remove fat from the blood. However, the researchers believe that there is a downside to this mechanism, in that the migrating monocytes may worsen tissue damage because they exacerbate ongoing or underlying inflammation. This is not of great concern if blood levels of saturated fats are only elevated very occasionally, but having permanently elevated saturated levels could mean that the migration of monocytes is happening on a routine basis. Modern lifestyles seem to go hand-in-hand with high levels of fat in the blood. This fat comes from the food and drink that we consume.

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec’s comments on “Saturated Fats Produce Inflammation and Immune Imbalance”

What this research is concluding is this: when you eat saturated fat regularly (which most all Americans do because saturated fats are high in all animal products- meat, chicken, fish, eggs, cheese, milk and is used in processed fats and oils) this fat must be cleared so it does this by sending white blood cells to attack and digest it just the same as if it were a cancer cell and in this process they produce inflammatory molecules that can damage cells, tissues, glands and organs. This causes immune suppression because you are sending too many white blood cells into battle to eat the excessive saturated fat that is floating in your blood that does not leave enough white blood cell warriors to kill and eat the bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites and cancer cells that routinely are found in the body. So be eating too much saturated fat you are causing inflammation to increase and inflammation is the root of all disease. Also you are opening the door to cancer and a host of other diseases.

What can you do?

Eat more plant products and less animal products. Eat more salads, vegetables, seeds, nuts, avocados, low glycemic index fruit and sea vegetables. Eat as little animal products as you need to. The other negative factor of saturated fats is that they clog up cell membranes and that is the life of your cell. Nutrients cannot enter the cell nor can waste products exit a cell efficiently that have too much saturated fats and cholesterol in their membranes.

Remember God’s first plan is always His best:

Gen 1:29-30

Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.  And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground — everything that has the breath of life in it — I give every green plant for food.” And it was so. NIV

You Think As You Eat

New research has shown for the first time that the part of the brain used for learning, memory and mental health is smaller in people with unhealthy diets.

The hippocampus is the region of the brain associated with learning and memory skills. Researchers from Deakin University (Australia), assessed data collected on 255 participants, ages 60 to 64 years, enrolled in the Personality and Total Health Through Life Study.  The researchers used magnetic resonance imaging to measure the size of the left and right hippocampi; they also surveyed the subjects to ascertain dietary habits.  Data analysis revealed that those men and women who consumed unhealthy foods had hippocampi that were smaller, as compared to subjects who followed a healthy diet pattern. The study authors report that: “Lower intakes of nutrient-dense foods and higher intakes of unhealthy foods are each independently associated with smaller hippocampal size and function. It is becoming even clearer that diet is critically important to mental as well as physical health throughout life. This latest study sheds light on at least one of the pathways by which eating an unhealthy diet may influence the risk for dementia, cognitive decline and mental disorders such as depression and anxiety.”

These findings suggest the potential for dietary interventions to promote hippocampal health, decrease age-related atrophy, and prevent negative health outcomes associated with hippocampal atrophy. They also support the extensive data from human observational and intervention studies showing that unhealthy dietary patterns are associated with increased prevalence or risk, and healthy dietary patterns with reduced risk, of depression and reinforce the imperative to improve dietary intakes at the population level and in clinical settings for better mental health outcomes.

Comments by Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec on “You Think As You Eat”

You are what you eat more than you could ever know. This great study shows that if you eat low nutrient foods you shrink your brain, lose your memory and get depressed. On the other hand if you eat as God designed you to eat you have none of this. So what is bad food and what is good food?

Dietary patterns higher in saturated fats (animal fats) and refined carbohydrates—a Western-style dietary pattern—are independently associated with increased depression and mental symptoms. While higher intakes of nutrient-dense foods, such as vegetables, preferably raw promotes higher enzymes for metabolic function of the cells, promotes better digestion, has more antioxidant capacity and overall have more vital nutrients, vitamins and minerals and no carbohydrates that cause harm.

So to make it simple when you eat food that is high in saturated fat which is predominately animal fat or that has a higher glycemic index (sugar index) which is sugar in all forms, refined carbohydrates, cooked carbohydrates and even overly sweet fruit, this can cause an inflammatory reaction in the hippocampus part of the brain which is responsible for mood and memory.

What did the Bible say food in the beginning?

NIV

We were designed by God to eat green vegetables, vegetables, seeds, nuts and lower glycemic index fruit. This means every vegetable, seed, nut and fruit including avocados is supposed to be our diet. The fruit that God made was not the fruit of today. Modern farming has hybridized the fruit to be 100 times sweeter than it was actually designed to be so if you choose to eat fruit besides avocados, lemons and limes make sure they are not very sweet.

So all you have to do to have a healthy mind and emotions is follow 7 Basic Steps and one of the steps is eating the proper diet of vegetables, seeds, nuts and the low glycemic index fruit.

25 minutes of brisk walking a day adds 7 years to your life

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”]
[et_pb_row admin_label=”row”]
[et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text”]The professor of cardiac diseases at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in London, said gentle exercise can reduce the risk of dying from a heart attack in the average person’s 50s and 60s by half. This study is very relevant. It suggests that when people exercise regularly they may be able to retard the process of aging. We may never avoid becoming completely old, but we may delay the time we become old. We may look younger when we’re 70 and may live into our 90s.

Exercise buys you three to seven additional years of life. It is an anti-depressant, it improves cognitive function and there is now evidence that it may retard the onset of dementia.

The lead researcher said everyone should be doing at least between 20 and 25 minutes of walking a day, involving brisk walking or slow jogging. If you know that something is 20 minutes away, try and walk it if you’ve got time and not take the bus. People with a heart condition shouldn’t run but walk to a point where they can still speak – but they shouldn’t be able to sing. Following these simple directions is essential considering our sedentary lifestyles. Exercise will bring benefits whatever age or condition.

People who start exercising at the age of 70 are less likely to go on to develop atrial fibrillation, a heart rhythm condition that affects about 10 per cent of people over 80.

The research was carried out by a team at Saarland University in Germany, who introduced a group of non-exercising but otherwise healthy and non-smoking people to a program of exercise. It showed that aerobic exercise, high intensity interval training and strength training all have a positive impact on markers of ageing. The authors found endurance exercise and high intensity exercise to be more efficient at achieving good health than just lifting weights, and is more likely to trigger the anti-ageing process. The professor at the Cambridge Institute of Public Health, said: ‘The more active you are, and it doesn’t matter when you start, the more benefit you are going to have.

We recommend people who have cardiovascular disease or had myocardial infarction or heart failure to be physically active, because it’s beneficial for them; so there’s really no reason for healthy people not to exercise as well. The study brings a bit more understanding of why physical activity has that effect.

It helps us understand the process of cellular ageing as that’s what drives our organ system and body ageing and the effects physical activity can have on the cellular level.

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec comments on “ 25 minutes a day of brisk walking adds 7 years to your life.”

Health always and we mean always comes back to basics: 7 Basic Steps. One of those basic steps is exercise. If you don’t move it you lose it is the saying but the “it” you are going to lose is your life. This study made it clear that everyone; yes everyone of all ages should be exercising no excuses. The lead researcher states “We recommend people who have cardiovascular disease or had myocardial infarction or heart failure to be physically active, because it’s beneficial for them”. So if it’s good for those with heart disease then it is really good for those who don’t have heart disease yet.

Remember this saying “LIFE IS MOTION”.

If you stop moving you have no more reason to live and your physiology starts to shut down. People have asked me over the last 32 years “what exercise is the best?” My answer is the one you will do every day for the rest of your life and this study showed it can be as simple as a 30 minute brisk walk each day. Remember the goal of exercise is to move blood and strengthen muscle especially your heart. So lifting weight is good for muscles but not so good for your heart and does not move blood enough. That does not mean to exclude it only to make sure you are doing the cardiovascular exercise first. Another great from of cardiovascular exercise that can be done at home for most people is walking up and down stairs. The goal in exercise is oxygen debt and that is achieved when one starts to get out of breath so that you cannot carry on a conversation easily because you are breathing heavy. You should not exercise into pain only to the level of slight oxygen debt which when doing stairs only takes one minute.

The best way to commit to lifetime exercise is to combine it with another activity like prayer. If you go on a thirty minute brisk walk and that is your prayer time you have added much value to the exercise because it becomes your prayer time each day also. This means you are not going to skip it because you feel tired or the weather is less desirable.

Start slow with whatever form of exercise you choose but make a commitment to make it consistent. Also do not exercise with others because it should be your quiet time, your personal time between you and God and the time you look forward to each day. If you make it a social time it will lose the power of helping you reflect on your life and your purpose.

But the most import thing is to DO IT and KEEP DOING IT EVERY DAY. It is worth not only 7 more years of your life but a much higher quality of those years because you decrease the risk all disease and disability.[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column]

Healthy at 100- Low Levels of Inflammation is the Key

Scientists have cracked the secret of why some people live a healthy and physically independent life over the age of 100. For the first time, a team of experts from Newcastle University’s Institute for Ageing and Keio University School of Medicine, Tokyo, explored which biological and pathological processes may be the most important for successful ageing after 100 years of age.

They identified that to live past the age of 100 you must keep inflammation down in the body and telomeres long – which are the part of human cells that affect how our cells age.

Severe inflammation is part of many diseases in the old, such as diabetes or diseases attacking the bones or the body’s joints, and chronic inflammation can develop from any of them.

The lead researcher said: “Centenarians and supercentenarians are different – put simply, they age slower. They can ward off diseases for much longer than the general population.

In groups of people aged 105 and over (semi-supercentenarians), those 100 to 104 (centenarians), those nearly 100 and their offspring, the team measured a number of health markers which they believe contribute towards successful ageing, including blood cell numbers, metabolism, liver and kidney function, inflammation and telomere length.

Scientists expected to see a continuous shortening of telomeres with age, however what they found was that the children of centenarians, who have a good chance of becoming centenarians themselves, maintained their telomeres at a ‘youthful’ level corresponding to about 60 years of age even when they became 80 or older.

The data reveals that once you’re really old, telomere length does not predict further successful ageing. However, it does show that those who have a good chance to become centenarians and those older than 100 maintain their telomeres better than the general population, which suggests that keeping telomeres long may be necessary or at least helpful to reach extreme old age.

Centenarian offspring maintained lower levels of markers for chronic inflammation. These levels increased in everybody with age including centenarians and older, but those who were successful in keeping them low had the best chance to maintain good cognition, independence and stay alive for longer.

It has long been known that chronic inflammation is associated with the ageing process in younger, more ‘normal’ populations, but it’s only very recently we could mechanistically prove that inflammation actually causes accelerated ageing in mice.

This study, showing for the first time that inflammation levels predict successful ageing even in the extreme old, makes a strong case to assume that chronic inflammation drives human ageing too.

This study showed that over a wide age range, including unprecedentedly large numbers of the extremely old, inflammation is an important driver of ageing that might be something we can develop a pharmacological treatment for.

It is hoped that understanding the factors determining extreme longevity may help to achieve extended healthy lifespan for the wider population and to close the gap between the fastest and the slowest ageing population groups.

The results suggest that suppression of chronic inflammation might help people to age more slowly. However, presently available potent anti-inflammatories are not suited for long-term treatment of chronic inflammation because of their strong side-effects. Safer alternatives could make a large difference for the quality of life of older people.

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec’s comments on “Healthy at 100- Low Levels of Inflammation is the Key”

This article confirms what we have taught at Total Health Institute for the last 32 years. Inflammation is the root of disease. As this study on centenarians showed that those that have the lowest levels of inflammation lived the longest. Very interestingly this study found inflammation levels more important in successful aging than telomere length. Telomeres are the caps at the end of each strand of DNA that protect your chromosomes, like the plastic tips at the end of shoelaces. So what this research is actually saying is that inflammation level is more important that your genes for successful aging.

So the researcher discover a great finding that inflammation is the cause but drop back into the old medical model of trying to make new drugs that decrease inflammation without too many side effects.

Medication has anywhere between 7-500 possible side effects. This means 7-500 other systems or functions of the body that are negatively affected by the medication. This is not logical unless you are in a life threatening emergency!

So the researchers have found the correct cause but their solution is incorrect. The correct answer to decrease inflammation in the body is as simple as 7 Basic Steps to Total Health

Besides the basics of drinking more water, eating more living/raw plant food, getting more premidnight sleep, getting more exercise. The two most important steps are:

  1. Fasting from standard American food and from standard American lifestyle habits. This will include what we promote at Total Health Institute- Living a permanent Daniel Fast and also separating yourself from other habits that feed the flesh and not the Spirit. This might include TV, internet, sports, shopping, social engagements or whatever else you feel you are addicted to meaning you must have them. You should only have one addiction in this life and that is to the ONE who created you and sustains you.
  2. Developing a strong prayer life is learning how to hear the voice of God spoken into your heart and knowing how to meditate on His Word. Without this all houses are built on sinking sand and when the storms of life come they will crash. Your house must be built on the Rock of God’s unconditional Love and the Grace and Truth that Christ Jesus gives you when you are IN HIM. This all manifests in this realm through the power of the Holy Spirit that lives inside of you but you will have no power of the Spirit if you keep listening to the flesh-filled mind and keep feeding it with these American addictions. The answer is found in Truth. Plant Truth in your heart and you will have a hundred fold harvest in every area of your life.

Is radiation therapy for cancer the right choice?

Radiation as a cancer treatment has been used for decades. It is promoted to cancer patients as either a primary or secondary treatment of necessity for killing malignant tumors. One must be educated on the possible negative effects of radiation and the increase risk of death from radiation-induced causes so that a properly informed decision can be made.

From an Oxford University study dealing with breast cancer, it was found that women who received radiation had an increased risk of death from heart attacks because their hearts had been weakened by the therapy. Radiation also weakens the immune system and can lead to death from secondary causes like pneumonia. Many patients die from their cancer treatment, but have the side effects, such as heart failure or pneumonia, being the recorded cause of death. This is why cancer statistics can be misleading. From the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast Project, it was stated that from the data available, post-operative irradiation has provided no advantage to patients.

Radiation therapy to the abdominal/pelvis may cause nausea, diarrhea and abdominal cramping. Blood counts can be decreased by radiation therapy, especially white blood cells and platelets. Lymphedema or swelling may also occur in the legs. Bowel obstructions or ulcers can also occur due to radiation.

The rectum is the area most affected by pelvic irradiation for treatment of the prostate, cervical and colon cancer. Acute symptoms are evident with diarrhea, urinary urgency, hemorrhoids or rectal bleeding and fatigue. Pelvic irradiation can also cause ulceration, severe bleeding, stricture or narrowing of the rectum, severe incontinence and fistula. A fistula is an opening between the rectum and the skin, forming an alternative pathway for the excretion of fecal material. Fistulas also can form between the rectum and the vagina causing fecal material to enter into the vagina.

In a study following 6,428 women that were diagnosed with pelvic malignancies, researchers compared women who did and did not receive radiation therapy. Women who underwent radiation therapy were more likely to have a pelvic fracture than women who did not undergo radiation therapy. Researchers concluded up to a 200% increase in hip fracture rates following radiation treatment for pelvic cancers. Fracturing a hip leads to death in approximately 20% of those affected.

The lung is one of the most radiosensitive organs, yet is often radiated due to cancer of the esophagus, breast or lymphatic system. Common radiation effects in the lung become evident about three months after radiotherapy, with congestion, cough and shortness of breath, fever and chest pain caused by inflammation of the lungs. This inflammation can lead to scarring of the lung tissue and permanently decreased lung function.

One of the most important factors to consider before choosing radiation therapy is to understand the basis of how cancer grows. Cancer is formed from a base cell called the cancer stem cell. These cancer stem cells make up approximately 2% of any malignant tumor. These cancer stem cells produce all the other cancer cells so in essence they are likened to the queen bee in the beehive. Radiation does not kill cancer stem cells. Whatever non-stem cancer cells the radiation does kill, these cells will be replaced by the cancer stem cell. This means at most the radiation therapy will temporarily shrink a tumor but it inevitably will grow back as the cancer stem cells replace the non-cancer stem cells that were destroyed from the radiation. This is an important fact to consider knowing that radiation and chemotherapy do not “cure” cancer but instead they temporarily slow down its growth. This is when other non-toxic natural therapies can be done in conjunction with the chemotherapy and radiation to increase the rate of healing.

Another option is to have alternative cancer treatment in conjunction with chemotherapy to decrease the need for additional radiation therapy. Natural alternative cancer treatment enables the body to heal from the toxic effects of the chemotherapy, while boosting the immune system’s ability to kill cancer cells.

As observed, there are many possible side effects that can be associated with radiation therapy. Most side effects have a major impact on the patients’ day to day activities and can impede their daily functions. Knowing that radiation can cause debilitating side effects, permanent tissue damage and can induce an increased risk of death, a cancer patient should decide if the potential benefits outweigh the risk.

Sleep, Hormones and Cancer- What you should know

Sleep is vital to one’s health and well-being. It has been implicated that loss of sleep can directly affect the immune system and increase the risk of various cancers. The immune and hormonal systems communication seems to be a key factor in preventing cancer cells from dividing beyond the immune system’s ability to keep them in check. Melatonin and cortisol are two of the most important hormones in preventing cancer. When these hormones are balanced, the risk of cancer and the rate of its progression can be reduced. It has been estimated that up to 88 percent of cancer patients are affected by sleep disorders. Sleep apnea is more common in those with cancer than the general public and cancer patients are twice as likely to experience insomnia. A patient’s immune system can be impaired by restless nights from sleep disorders. According to researchers at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, sleep apnea has been shown to have a strong correlation with death from cancer. Researchers found that almost 30 percent of patients reporting cancer-related fatigue were diagnosed with sleep apnea and 60 percent were diagnosed with insomnia. Researchers at Stanford and the University of Louisville School of Medicine showed that a patient’s circadian rhythm may influence cancer progression. The circadian rhythm is the night and day cycle affecting metabolism, physiology and hormonal production.

Melatonin and cortisol

Melatonin increases during sleep and has anti-oxidant properties. With an altered circadian rhythm, the body produces less melatonin and the cell’s DNA may be more susceptible to cancer-causing mutations. Melatonin has another key role in slowing the ovaries’ production of estrogen. For those with breast and ovarian tumors, estrogen stimulates the cancerous cells to continue dividing. Another influential hormone is cortisol, which is high in the morning and declines throughout the day. Cortisol has a regulating factor on immune system activity, including natural-killer cells which destroy cancer cells. The Stanford study found that people who are at high risk for breast cancer have an altered cortisol rhythm, meaning those with a shifted cortisol cycle may be more cancer susceptible. It was also found that women with breast cancer who had their cortisol cycle disrupted, with peak levels in the afternoon rather than at dawn, died earlier from the disease and slept more poorly. Melatonin has also been shown to reduce the growth of prostate cancer. According to a study in the journal Cancer, Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention, results showed that men who had trouble sleeping were twice as likely to develop prostate cancer compared to those who slept well. The correlation was even stronger for cases of advanced prostate cancer and the risk increased relative to the severity of the sleep problems. The study implied that sleep may become a potential target for intervention to reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Approximately 15-20 percent of employees in the USA work an overnight shift. This timing of work can lead to circadian disruption including melatonin synthesis. Studies have shown a potential link between exposure to light at night and risk of breast cancer. Having proper melatonin and cortisol levels has a major impact on sleep. When these hormones are in the normal range they can help improve quality and quantity of sleep. These levels should be tested to screen for potential hormone and immune imbalances so they can be corrected before cancer has a chance to get a foothold. This should be a foundation of any alternative cancer treatment protocol.

What should you do? Try to get to bed as close to 8 PM as possible. The more premidnight sleep you get the stronger your immune system is boosted. Always remember you were designed by God do go to sleep when the sun goes down and wake up when the sun comes up. The closer you model this plan the stronger your immune system will be and the healthier you will become. What if you said that you could never go to be that early? Well maybe you would if you had cancer or were going to die. So don’t wait to you have to,  start making gradual changes now so you never get your health backed up into a corner with a life threatening disease. An ounce of prevention is worth far more than a pound of cure. Just one more note on sleep. The earlier you wake up, the easier it is to go to sleep earlier because you get tired. If you wake up at 4 AM in the morning you surely will want to go to sleep at 8 PM. Sweet dreams.

When nontoxic chemicals are mixed together they trigger cancer

Fifty chemicals the public is exposed to on a daily basis may trigger cancer when combined. A global taskforce of 174 scientists from leading research centers across 28 countries studied the link between mixtures of commonly encountered chemicals and the development of cancer. The study selected 85 chemicals not considered carcinogenic to humans and found 50 supported key cancer-related mechanisms at exposures found in the environment today.

Longstanding concerns about the combined and additive effects of everyday chemicals prompted research into what is known about mixtures against the full spectrum of cancer biology for the first time.

Lead cancer researcher commented regarding genes and molecular changes during cancer development. He said: “This research backs up the idea that chemicals not considered harmful by themselves are combining and accumulating in our bodies to trigger cancer and might lie behind the global cancer epidemic we are witnessing. We urgently need to focus more resources to research the effect of low dose exposure to mixtures of chemicals in the food we eat, air we breathe and water we drink.”

Another lead researcher who contributed in the area of cancer epigenetics and the environment, said: “A review on this scale, looking at environmental chemicals from the perspective of all the major hallmarks of cancer, is unprecedented.”

Last in the research team who contributed to an examination of how such typical environmental exposures influence dysfunctional metabolism in cancer endorsed this view.

He said: “Despite a rising incidence of many cancers, far too little research has been invested into examining the pivotal role of environmental causative agents. This worldwide team of researchers refocuses our attention on this under-researched area.”

In light of the compelling evidence the taskforce is calling for an increased emphasis on and support for research into low dose exposures to mixtures of environmental chemicals. Current research estimates chemicals could be responsible for as many as one in five cancers. With the human population routinely exposed to thousands of chemicals, the effects need to be better understood to reduce the incidence of cancer globally.

-Carcinogenesis

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec’s comments on “When nontoxic chemicals are mixed together they trigger cancer”:

This is how chemistry works: if you mix nontoxic substance A with nontoxic substance B with nontoxic substance C you get toxic substance ABC.

This study showed that at least 20% of all cancers come from toxic chemicals in the air we breathe, water we drink and food we eat. These toxic chemicals have many times passed below the radar screen because they are not classified as toxic themselves BUT and that is a big BUT when you mix them together they are now classified as toxic. So now testing has to start over to test the never ending combinations of nontoxic chemicals that become toxic when combined.

What is the answer? Live simple, eat simple, drink simple, and make sure everything that goes in your mouth you know the ingredients and they are simple and you can pronounce them. If it sounds like a chemical on the label then it is. If you cannot pronounce the word then do not eat or drink it.

Some steps to get started:

  1. Only drink purified water- distilled or reverse osmosis
  2. Eat organic food whenever possible
  3. Check labels for ingredients and keep it simple
  4. Use natural cleaning solutions only in your home. Things like vinegar and water and all natural cleaning solutions that have simple ingredients.
  5. Open the windows in your home for at least 30 minutes per day year round to ventilate any chemicals that outgass from building materials.
  6. Purchase a quality air purifier
  7. Make sure you live a Seven Basic Steps to Total Health Lifestyle. The Seven BASICS.

Your reaction to everyday minor stressors will determine your level of inflammation and your development of disease

Reacting positively to stressful situations may play a key role in long-term health, according to researchers.

In a study measuring adults’ reactions to stress and how it affects their bodies, researchers found that adults who fail to maintain positive moods such as cheerfulness or calm when faced with the minor stressors of everyday life appear to have elevated levels of inflammation. Furthermore, women can be at heightened risk.

Inflammatory responses are part of the body’s ability to protect itself via the immune system. However, chronic — long-term — inflammation can undermine health, and appears to play a role in obesity, heart disease and cancer.

These findings add to growing body of evidence regarding the health implications of affective reactivity — emotional response — to daily stressors.

The frequency of daily stressors, in and of itself, was less consequential for inflammation than how an individual reacted to those stressors. Positive emotions, and how they can help people in the event of stress, have really been overlooked.

In the short-term, with illness or exercise, the body experiences a high immune response to help repair itself. However, in the long term, heightened inflammatory immune responses may not be healthy. Individuals who have trouble regulating their responses may be at risk for certain age-related conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, cognitive decline and cancer.

A cross-sectional sample of 872 adults from the National Study of Daily Experiences reported daily stressors and emotional reactions for eight consecutive days. Blood samples of participants were obtained during a separate clinic visit and assayed for inflammatory markers.

Subjects were interviewed by phone every day for eight consecutive days. They were asked to rate their positive and negative emotions, as well as whether or not they encountered stressors. This enabled researchers to evaluate a person’s emotional response on days when they experience stressors, and compare it to days when they do not.

-Health Psychology.

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec’s comments on “Your reaction to everyday minor stressors will determine your level of inflammation and your development of disease”:

Inflammation is the root of all disease and what this study showed is that inflammation is increased simply by you having the wrong attitude to minor daily stressors. It is not just the big traumatic shock stressors or the long term chronic stress that produces disease. This study demonstrated it was how you handle the little stresses, the minor stresses that determine your level of inflammation and thus your level of health or disease.

Simply put, how you see things is how they become. If you let the minor, little things in life weigh you down then you are producing inflammation and potential disease. On the other hand if you keep your eyes fixed on HIM, your journey and keep going forward, keeping the big picture in mind and not focusing on the little things that wont matter 5 years from now then you will remain in health and become disease protective.

Always ask yourself this question with every stress that comes into your life:

  • Is this really worth my energy and effort to focus on this or should I be focused on the solution rather that the problem?
  • How can I grow from this so it no longer is a stress?
  • Will this matter 5 or 10 years from now?
  • Does this have eternal or temporal significance?

You should always be eternally focused not focused on things that are passing away.

Matt 6:33

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. NIV

Are bioidentical hormones safe?

The words bioidentical hormone have become synonymous with safer hormones because they are made of natural substances that are biochemically identical to a woman’s natural hormones. Although they are natural, they are still hormones and taken in too large a quantity can still stimulate cancer growth. The best approach to balance a women’s hormonal system is to balance the other systems of the body first, then if hormone replacement is needed, it will be in such small amounts that it will not trigger cancer cell formation.

With the premature termination study by the Women’s Health Initiative, which linked hormone replacement therapy with increased breast cancer risk, many women ceased taking hormone medication. And although their breast cancer rate decreased, their quality of life also decreased. Symptoms of estrogen and progesterone imbalances like: irritability, mood swings, anxiety, depression, decreased sex drive, sleep problems, weight gain, fatigue, food cravings, water retention, bloating, headaches, joint pain, acne, PMS, irregular menstrual periods and brain fog once again reappeared. This caused women to seek out possible safer alternatives to standard hormone replacement therapy (HRT). This is when bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) entered the scene as a possible way to get back to a normal way of life again. The bioidentical hormones were made from natural substances instead of pregnant horse urine.

The question arose, if HRT is unsafe then how can someone be certain that BHRT is safe and will not cause cancer like the standard HRT? Estrogen is a growth hormone. This hormone decreases appetite, improves mental capacity, stabilizes mood, acts as an antidepressant, promotes sex drive, keeps skin thick and tight preventing wrinkles, it helps prevent osteoporosis, heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease. This all sounds good, for a woman to feel like she is 20 when she is 50. There is one catch – when the body is stimulated to do all these at too high a level when it is 50 years old, the risk of increasing cell growth and cancer also increases.

Taking bioidentical hormones without increasing cancer risk

If you looks at BHRT from a physiological standpoint, you can find the answer: Taking supplemental hormones to make a woman feel great and not increasing her risk of cancer. There are five major systems along with the biochemistry and mental/emotional states that control your health and life they are in order:

  • Nervous
  • Hormonal
  • Digestive
  • Eliminative
  • Reproductive

These five systems when functioning normally along with balanced biochemistry and mental/emotional states promotes total health. Hormonal health is no different from neurological health or digestive health. They are all interconnected and what is done to one is done to them all. So to balance estrogen and progesterone levels does not lie in just taking potentially safer bioidentical hormones, but in balancing your nervous system including the neurotransmitters, hormonal system in order of priority: first the pituitary gland (master hormone regulator), then the thyroid gland (metabolism), followed by the pancreas (digestion and blood sugar), next are the adrenals (stress response) and finally the ovaries which produce estrogen and progesterone. Women need to understand that ovaries are last in order of importance in the hormonal system.

You can see it much more than taking a hormone to feel better, but balancing all systems and states in order of priority. When this is accomplished, if a woman needs to take bioidentical hormones they will be safe and not produce cancer because the need will be a much smaller dose; the body is now in balance, needing just a little help in the female hormonal area.

The Brain Body Connection

There are four major systems that control most bodily functions and when these systems are out of balance, disease will eventually manifest. These systems include in order of priority: the nervous system, hormonal system, digestive system and the detoxification system. Since the brain rules all, first priority is given to the nervous system as the master control that runs the body. One of the ways the nervous system does this is by the production of neurotransmitters, most importantly serotonin. By keeping the brain healthy with proper diet, exercise and sleep, optimal health is a natural byproduct.

The brain communicates to the rest of the body through small protein and fat molecules called neurotransmitters that make the difference between feeling full of energy and happy to feeling totally drained and depressed.

What affects neurotransmitter production?

  • Hormone imbalance – Stress increases the hormone cortisol and when cortisol goes up, the serotonin levels proportionally decrease.
  • Digestive imbalance – As stress increases and cortisol rises, the antibodies produced in the intestinal tract called secretory IgA decrease, which causes poor digestion and pathogens like candida, parasites and bacterial infections to multiply.
  • Toxicity – A weakened digestive lining allows chemicals and toxins to enter the blood. This overloads the liver and when the liver can no longer “detoxify” these chemicals then spill over into the general circulation causing premature cell death. This is seen as organ and gland dysfunction which produces symptoms, conditions and diseases.

Serotonin is one of the most important neurotransmitters. It regulates mood, sleep and appetite and affects learning and memory. Symptoms of low serotonin include anxiety, depression, sugar cravings and insomnia.

Most people who have these symptoms get prescribed a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor or SSRI (Prozac, Zoloft, or Paxil). What people do not understand is that SSRI’s actually lower serotonin levels with chronic use. The receptor that the serotonin molecule fits into on the nerve cell membrane is like a lock and key and with overuse it becomes resistant. This means the receptor has been so overloaded that it does not want any more serotonin. The end result is that it takes more medication to get the same effect until the side effects of the medication outweigh any gain. If this is done chronically it can cause irreversibly damage to the serotonin receptor (the key does not fit in the lock anymore). What is the answer? Treat the cause of low serotonin. To balance serotonin levels naturally take a simple back-to-basics approach of proper sleep, exercise and diet.

 Sleep

When one does not get enough sleep, cortisol increases which then decreases the amount of L-Tryptophan that makes it to the brain. L-Tryptophan is the amino acid that is required for your brain to produce serotonin. When you sleep 7-8 hours you reverse this cycle and serotonin levels normalize.

Exercise

Studies have shown that exercise balances serotonin levels similarly to SSRI’s with the same benefits but without any of the side effects or serotonin receptor resistance or damage.

Food

Recent research backs a higher polyunsaturated fat (PUFA) diet along with carbohydrates in the form of low-glycemic index vegetables for balancing serotonin levels and maintaining cell membrane fluidity so the serotonin receptor works more efficiently. This also increases the nutrients entering and toxins exiting the cells. This diet includes raw seeds, nuts, avocados, olives, sprouts, sea vegetables, a mix of all vegetables and plenty of green vegetables.

To balance the nervous system one must start with neurotransmitter balance; this is done not with medication nor with supplementation but first with the most beneficial changes that come from sufficient sleep, adequate exercise and a diet higher in PUFAs and low-glycemic index vegetables.

Breast cancer- the complete way to heal

Breast cancer is the number one cancer that kills women. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation have proved that there needs to be a more comprehensive approach to healing this disease. The answer can only be found when one truly understands that breast cancer is not caused by physical factors alone but like all disease, is holistic – meaning it only manifests when the body, mind, emotions and spirit are out of balance. When these four are in harmony, the stage is set for complete healing to occur.

Breast cancer must be looked at from an environmental and emotional perspective. So what makes cancer cells form and become so aggressive? The answer is found in the environment that the cells are raised in. If a person is laden with chemicals and toxins, if they are deficient in key vital nutrients, if they have had physical trauma or even worse, emotional trauma, all these factors press the button for normal cells to change into cancer cells.

Mental/Emotional/Spiritual Protocol

Breast cancer is linked to the emotional shocks of worry, fear and separation. These are not small day-to-day worries but major emotional shocks that usually caught the woman off guard. The first kind of breast cancer is of the mammary gland and can be triggered by a worry or argument conflict with a spouse, child, mother or over the loss of the home. The second type of breast cancer is of the intraductal gland and can be set off by a separation or fear conflict from a spouse, child, mother or home. In life, the physical is just a manifestation of the mental, emotional and spiritual states. What one sees in their body is a product of their thoughts, emotions and beliefs.

So how can you heal breast cancer? By healing your entire life. Start first by learning how to let go of being dependent upon others. People are made to be with one another but to not be codependent upon each other. The only One we are to be codependent upon is our Family (Our Father in heaven, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit who lives within us teaching us, guiding us and empowering us to be who we really ARE, the sons and daughter of God). If worry, separation and fear are the biggest triggers of breast cancer, then you must begin to emotionally condition yourself to be able to live a life without a spouse, child, home or whatever else you are so attached to that will trigger a disease in the body if its lost. Always remember who your first Love IS! He will never leave you nor forsake you but always love you unconditionally. Loss does cause a grieving period but then that time should be finished and you should move on to the next chapter of your life. A person who is at peace with themselves (because they know who they ARE in Family of God) is a person who is healthy in many ways.

Physically, the way to heal is to get at least eight hours of sleep a night, preferably with four of those before midnight, and to eat a diet high in raw vegetables and fruits. Next is exercise; to move lymph fluid (where two thirds of the immune strength is found) and to increase oxygen levels in the body. Cancer cannot grow in high oxygen. Last but not least, is to live a life of reflection and meditation. Stilling yourself enough to be able to listen to the truth of what God is speaking into your heart.

Breast cancer should not be something to fear but rather a call to go deeper in this journey called life. Instead of emotionally reacting, it should be a call to rise to the challenge that life has presented, a time to reevaluate each area of life and to seek where physical, mental, emotional and spiritual improvements can be made to make life better than it ever was. What appears to be the worst is really meant to become the best. What the world system means for evil, God will always turn around for your good if you just put Him first and foremost in your life and trust His Word, His Love and in this trust or faith step out with actions steps that are led by the Holy Spirit speaking to your heart. Faith without action is dead and you must always live by faith not by sight, sound, taste, touch or smell. The five senses only feed the mind. Love and Truth feed the heart, the spirit within you to live a life of faith and receive all the promises He gave you.

Emotional trauma can cause of cancer

The two mental /emotional causes of cancer are acute high stress traumatic shocks and chronic long term negative stress called distress. Traumatic shocks, which are totally unexpected, cause a mind, brain and body reaction that can trigger the formation of cancer. With having a personal relationship with the Living God and by knowing how to prepare for shocks one can either prevent or heal the emotional root of cancer.

The first mental/emotional cause of cancer is chronic distress or negative stress that causes the hormone cortisol to go out of balance and weaken the immune system. This opens the door to cancer growth.

The second type of stress that can stimulate cancer formation is emotional traumatic shock. Many cancers can be linked to an emotional trauma one to two years before the onset of the cancer. These traumatic shocks actually cause a lesion in a very specific area the brain (which can be seen on a CT scan) which corresponds to a very specific organ, gland or tissue in the body. In a sense the unexpected shock blows a fuse in the brain which causes a stress response in an associated organ which we know as cancer. Each type of cancer can be associated with a particular area in the brain that also correlates to a particular emotion or thought, hence the true brain, mind, emotion, body connection.

Emotional causes that can trigger cancer

  • Loss of spouse (divorce or death) or loss of child (separation or death) can trigger breast cancer
  • Fear of death (including the shock of being diagnosed with cancer) can trigger lung cancer
  • Loss of territory (wife leaves or man loses his job) can trigger prostate cancer
  • Failure to let go of some past issue can trigger colon cancer
  • Failure to accept the situation can trigger stomach cancer

The first way to prevent cancer from an emotional shock is to see everything in one’s life from a spiritual perspective. A personal relationship with the Family of God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) should empower one no matter what happens in one’s life. If a woman unexpectedly gets divorced by her husband, this is a shock to her system causing her to question her value, but if she is confident in who she is and trusts God for her future, then she will rise out of that trauma better then when she went into it. She has grown stronger in her relationship with herself and with God. This is better than staying stuck in the “why me” mindset which causes more stress and more disease promotion. Things do not just happen; they have a purpose to mature one in one’s life journey. Situations that come into one’s life are not meant to just leave so that one can get back to where one was but instead to make one better and grow one stronger than one ever was.

The second way comes from being prepared. A prepared person contemplates all possibilities in their life so they expect the best but are ready for the worst. If the doctor diagnoses one with terminal cancer, rather than just accepting this situation as final, it’s better to seek the truth that can set you free. Many people have healed cancer with alternative cancer treatment when there was no hope medically. To prevent emotional trauma one must change one’s perception of the event. There is a saying “whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you are right.” If one sees the situation as a weight to grow one stronger, then stronger one will become in body, mind and spirit.

How Does Stress Cause Cancer?

How can you live a stress-free life and prevent cancer and other health problems? By learning to manage your cortisol stress hormone levels and by putting the mental/emotional stress in your life in the proper perspective. Once you know how to balance the physical factors of sleep, diet and exercise along with the mental and emotional stresses in your life then you will restore health in your body and mind. This is critical in any alternative cancer treatment.

It is a fact that high stress is a major contributing factor to cancer and many other diseases. The question is how does stress cause cancer? To answer this, one must look at what the stress response does physiologically in the body. Hans Selye, the father of stress research, said there are two types of stress, distress and eustress. Distress is a longer, more damaging response which negatively affects the organs, glands and systems including the immune system. Eustress is a short term beneficial stimulus to the system. If you run up and down the stairs ten times you feel invigorated. Now if you run up and down the stairs one thousand times you are exhausted and totally drained, so eustress is health boosting whereas distress is health depleting.

The stress response is controlled by the brain via the hypothalamus pituitary adrenal axis or HPA axis. The hypothalamus, which has been called the brain of the brain, is the part of your brain that senses biochemical changes similar to the thermostat in your house. If certain biochemicals go high or low, it triggers the brain to respond. The hypothalamus does so by telling the master hormone gland, the pituitary, to send messages to the adrenal glands to secrete a hormone called cortisol. When cortisol is at the proper level it is anti-inflammatory and promotes health. When cortisol goes too high with acute stress or too low with chronic stress, it causes your immune and digestive systems to shut down, inflammation to increase, blood sugar to rise, hormones to go out of balance and bones to become osteoporotic. When cortisol stays high or low it predisposes you to cancer and many other diseases.

What causes cortisol to go out of balance?

  1. Mental/emotional stress (distress)
  2. Lack of total sleep and pre-midnight sleep (four hours is ideal)
  3. Diet high in sugar, starch or acid forming foods
  4. Too little or too much exercise

Cancer can form when cortisol becomes chronically high or low because adrenal exhaustion causes immune system suppression and your immune system is what keeps the individual cancer cells (which everyone has), from growing into colonies called tumors.

The most important stress management plan starts with proper sleep, diet, and exercise along with learning how to change your perception of the situation. When you change your perception you can change your reality and your health. To reduce the mental/emotional distress one must live fully in the moment without spending time thinking about the “if only I would have” past or the “if only I could” future. If you had excruciating pain in your body, what does your mind say? “I am going to die if I do not get out of this pain”. But is this really true? Can you endure the pain for one second? The answer is yes and this is how you will endure any storm in your life, by living one moment at a time instead of living in the past or the future. This type of living keeps your cortisol and immune system in balance and keeps you healthy in mind and body.
