Natural Relief from Pancreatitis Pain

The pancreas is a large organ, located in the abdomen that regulates the production and release of enzymes that aid in the digestive processes. It is also responsible for the production of insulin and glucagon, the two hormones that regulate blood sugar. Pancreatic disorders can result in inflammation of the organ, and an over production of hyper-activated enzymes. These enzymes, so necessary to digestion and the absorption of nutrients, begin to attack the surrounding tissue often causing acute and chronic pain. The most common symptoms associated with pancreatitis are abdominal pain, swelling of the abdomen, nausea and a quickening pulse. Those suffering through bouts of pancreatitis know just how painful and intrusive these attacks can be, but with natural therapies they can soon find relief the relief they seek.

Common Causes of Pancreatitis

The most common causes of Pancreatitis are infection, injury, and excessive levels of calcium and triglycerides in the bloodstream. Lifestyle choices can play a large part in the occurrence of pancreatitis, with alcohol and tobacco being major contributors to pancreatic disorders. The chronic use of certain medications, such as corticosteroids and antibiotics, can also adversely affect the health of the pancreas. Pancreatitis can also accompany, or be caused by, certain other chronic conditions such as ulcers, gallstones and cystic fibrosis.

Whatever the underlying cause, patients suffering with pancreatitis share the common goal of obtaining relief from the painful symptoms that accompany the disorder. Conventional medicine can offer some relief in the form pain killers or anti-inflammatory drugs, but they can only do so much to alleviate the symptoms of pancreatitis and in many cases can bring unwanted health problems of their own.

Pancreatic Pain Relief the Natural Way

One of the most important ways to help relieve pancreatitis is to eat raw, blended plant food with digestive enzymes added. This greatly reduces the work the pancreas has to do to digest food. In essence it gives the pancreas a time of rest which is greatly needed in order to heal.

Many patients suffering with pancreatitis have found relief from their symptoms through the therapeutic use of natural herbal supplements. These herbal therapies along with alternative treatments have long been of help in ancient times up to today. Herbs such as milk thistle, red clover and garlic have been used over the centuries to provide much needed relief from the pain and inflammation caused by pancreatitis. Burdock root is often used to stimulate and support the overall health of the pancreas, while dandelion is particularly effective in cleansing the liver and blood stream of toxins that can contribute to the chronic symptoms of pancreatitis.

The use of more commonly recognized dietary supplements, such as selenium and beta carotene, also is proven helpful in the treatment of pancreatitis. These supplements, along with vitamins C, B3 and B5, contain powerful antioxidants  like glutathione, CoQ10 and alpha lipoic acid help to maintain the health of the pancreas, while fighting free radicals that can damage the organ. Those suffering from disorders of the pancreas are also encouraged to add vitamin E in the form of sunflower seeds to their daily regimen. Vitamin E is essential to maintaining the health of all of the body’s organs, and can help to reverse the tissue damage caused by chronic pancreatitis.

Alternative Physical Therapies for Pancreatitis

In addition to a daily regimen of vitamin and herbal supplements, there are a number of alternative physical therapies and alternative treatments that offer a relief from the symptoms of pancreatitis. Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy is helpful when the pancreas is inflamed as is biophoton cold laser treatments. Colon hydrotherapy and lymphatic drainage therapy help reduce toxic load which helps the pancreas to heal.

Prayer and meditation on God’s word can also be highly effective in helping patients manage the chronic symptoms of pancreatitis. Also through the combination of breathing exercises and mental discipline, patients learn to manage their pain without the use of drugs or chemicals. Prayer and meditation on God’s word focusing on the complete wholeness of body, mind and spirit can have a powerful healing effect on the body. Prayer and meditation on God’s word reduces both mental and physical stress, freeing the body to begin the healing process.

Pancreatitis can often lead to other more serious health conditions, including diabetes, malnutrition, kidney disorders and pancreatic cancer. Patients suffering from this disorder should speak with their holistic clinicians to design a suitable treatment program. Natural therapies can do more than simply alleviate the symptoms of pancreatitis; they can help the body repair much of the damage that has already been done. Through a holistic therapy regimen, people suffering with pancreatitis can find the relief they need from their painful symptoms, and take their first steps on the path to renewed health and vigor.

Calorie Restriction Can Slow Alzheimer’s Disease

U.S. researchers have found that a low-carbohydrate diet that reduces total calorie intake by 30 percent slowed the development of Alzheimer’s disease in mice. Researchers at Mount Sinai School of Medicine said the diet eliminated the onset of amyloid plaque — an underlying cause of Alzheimer’s — in mice that were genetically engineered to develop the disease.

They started the mice on the diet when they were 3 months old, which is considered young adult and is prior to the age when Alzheimer’s-prone mice begin to develop plaques in the brain. They then evaluated the mice at age 12 months, which when plaques are known to be well-developed in the mouse strain. The researchers found less plaque development in mice fed the restricted-calorie diet.

-United Press International

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec comments on Calorie Restriction Can Slow Alzheimer’s Disease:
There is only one thing that has proven to increase longevity in everything from yeast to worms to rodents to monkeys and that one thing is calorie restriction (CR). All research demonstrates when calories are cut in half lifespan increases lifespan by 50%. This one behavior that has proven to increase health and lifespan fits beautifully with a plant based diet because when one eats raw vegetables, living sprouts, seeds, legumes and nuts it is easy to cut calories by 50% and still feel full. The fiber contributes to the fullness along with the nutrient denseness of living/raw food.
In the first study with a 30% decrease in calories in mice prone to Alzheimer’s disease showed less plaque formation in the brain in the calorie restricted mice as compared to the non-calorie restricted mice.
In the second study a different version of CR was tested on adults where for three weeks they fasted with no calories one day and were allowed to eat as much as they wanted on the next day. In general, they lost weight but most importantly their insulin levels decreased by an average of 57%. This means less sugar in the blood and sugar feeds all bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi and cancer cells. When you decrease sugar and decrease insulin, you decrease diseases and increase health.
So the steps you can make toward a longer, healthier life is to move your diet progressively to a living/raw plant based diet eliminating animal products, sugars, cooked or processed starches. The more living and raw your diet is, the more living you will be. Always remember “Living food makes living/healthy people and dead/cooked food makes diseased/dead people.”

Depressed Moms Raise Risk for Kids Antisocial Behavior

A mother’s depression may raise the risk for antisocial behavior in her child, especially when depression occurs early in her child’s development, British researchers say.
Researchers at King’s College, London studied 1,116 sets of twins and found much higher levels of antisocial behavior in 7-year-old kids whose mothers had suffered depression during the child’s first five years of life. The greatest risk for problem behaviors occurred in children whose mothers suffered from depression and also showed symptoms of antisocial personality disorder.
A family history of antisocial behavior “accounted for approximately one-third of the observed association between maternal depression and children’s antisocial behavior,” the study authors explained. They say the study findings also suggest a strong environmental component linking exposure to a mother’s depression with behavioral problems in her offspring.
The UK team believe a combination of three factors might explain the association between antisocial behavior in children and depression in mothers:
1.   Depressed women are more likely to have antisocial personality traits related to depression
2.    They are more likely to have children with men who also display antisocial behaviors
3.    Children of depressed mothers may simply be genetically predisposed to antisocial disorders.
-Journal of the American Medical Association
Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec comments on Depressed Moms Raise Risk for Kids Antisocial Behavior:
These two studies show two very important issues about health and wholeness:
1.   Not only physical but mental/emotional conditions are passed generationally.
2.   People entrain to the energy of those around them.
The first study showed that not only are mental/emotional conditions passed generationally but that likelihood intensifies as more generations are affected. This means if your grandmother and mother had depression, you are at an extremely high risk of developing depression, mood and anxiety disorders.
In the second study, it is seen that depressed moms (or could be dads also) tend to have more antisocial behavior as a result of the depression. Children tend to entrain to the energy of their parents. If parents are always happy, seeing the good in things and laugh a lot, the children tend to be that way also. If parents are always negative, pessimistic, depressed and antisocial, chances are high the children will resonant with the same energy.
With this all said, it is important to know that you can heal anything that you have acquired in your lifetime AND anything that has been passed to you generationally. You do not have to remain a product of your past and/or a product of your generations. How do you reverse this? Three primary ways are:
1.    Live the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health everyday of your life.
2.    Renew/reprogram your mind with truth instead of lies.
3.    Do not associate with toxic, negative energy people.
The Seven Basic Steps to Total Health causes the body to heal first the present, then the past and then what was passed generationally.
If your mind is reprogrammed with truth instead of the lies of the world system, then that truth can set you free from your past and the generations that were passed to you. If someone tells you that the house is on fire when in reality it is not, then because you believed the lie it caused the emotion of fear and panic which, as we spoke of previously, causes physical dysfunction and eventual disease. Now if you no not believe the house in on fire, you remain calm, do not secret adrenaline and the body stays in a state of balance. It is your choice of what to believe. Believe truth and it will bring forth health, healing and life. Believe the lies and it will bring forth dysfunction, diseases and death. The choice is always yours to make.
The rule of entrainment states that when two people come together the average person will negatively entrain downward to the low frequency/energy of the person they are with unless they are at a very high frequency themselves. Then they will positively entrain the lower frequency/energy person up to their frequency/energy. What this means is simple. While you are trying to restore or improve you total health, do not spend time being with negative/low energy emotionally toxic people. They will pull your energy down and you will start to be and feel like them. So until you are at a high frequency (shining light) keep to yourself.
God and you heal you and God and you are the company you keep. Besides this anyone else who truly loves you and will die for you (i.e. your spouse or very close family or friends). Remember you are not bound by your past or what has been passed to you if you can break free from the lies of the world-filled, ego-filled, flesh-filled, lie-filled old mind.

Can One Person Change The World?

In this day and age we see fear, hatred, anger, violence, war, disease at epidemic proportions in the world. In a world with so much darkness, so much pain and suffering, is there any hope that it can all change and be the world God created it to be?   Can the world be changed and be ruled by love, joy, peace and hope? The answer can be found in the scientific phenomenon called entrainment. It states that when two objects are placed together the presence of each other one will resonate with the other and match its frequency. This means if pendulum clocks are put together, in a short time they will resonate with each other and chime together. The same happens when women live together in a group setting. They will start to have their menstrual cycle at the same time. This is the effect of entrainment.

How does entrainment affect you and the world around you? Simply by this—there are two types of entrainment. They are positive and negative entrainments. Positive entrainment is demonstrated when a very positive, joyful, peaceful, loving person is put into a group of normal frequency people. What will happen is that one joyful person will raise the frequency of everyone in the group so the group as a whole becomes more positive, more joyful, peaceful and loving.

On the other hand, if you put a negative, depressed, pessimistic person in a group of normal people, that one person will negatively entrain the whole group in such a way that they will all start to become more negative, feel more depressed and become more pessimistic.

What does all this mean to you? It means that 80% of the world is normal and at a frequency that will raise up to the 2% that are positive, peaceful, joyful and loving or lower to the 18% that are negative, depressed, or pessimistic depending on the company they keep and most of the time it is the wrong frequency of the one bad apple (18%) that spoils the whole bunch (80%).

What can you do?

You have a choice in everything that comes your way in your life. Your choice is to see the good in it, see God in it, or you can choose to see the bad in it. If you see good in everything, then you are on your way to being the 2% that can positively entrain the world around you. If you see the negative side of things, you already are the 18% that is negatively entraining the world around you. If you see the world around you good at times and not so good at others, you are in the 80% group that will always be swayed/entrained by the other 2% or 18%.

How can you become one of the 2% that will upwardly entrain the world to a higher level of joy, peace and love?

The most important steps are inward. Change yourself and you will change the world around you. Heal yourself and you will heal the world around you. If you want to help your children to be all that God created them to be then work intensely on your total health and wholeness because the more balanced and unblocked you become in body, mind and emotions, the higher you will raise your frequency and the more HIS love and light will shine through you to positively entrain your spouse, your children, your friends, your neighbors, your coworkers, your world, and the entire world.

How do you begin?

Health and healing flow from spirit to mind to body but they can be accessed from body to mind to spirit. This is done with the 7 Basic Steps to Total Health.

  1. Air
  2. Water
  3. Food
  4. Sleep/sun
  5. Exercise
  6. Fasting/detoxing
  7. Prayer/stillness
  1. Air-you must deep diaphragm breathing to oxygenate your body.
  2. Water-you must drink 32 ounces of distilled water per 50/lbs per body weight per day.
  3. Food-you consume a diet of living/raw plant food which has the highest energy, bioelectricity, enzymes and bioavailable nutrient content to either maintain or restore your health.
  4. Sleep-you must sleep 9.5 hours with 3.5 of them before midnight.
  5. Exercise-you must exercise 30 minutes every day.
  6. Fasting-you must fast from the normal Standard American Diet (SAD).
  7. Prayer-you must take the time throughout your day to regularly still your mind so you can hear the voice of God spoken into your heart.

Once you make these a daily routine, then your physical body will start to turn back on and you will have more energy, more vitality. Once you have more energy and you can do your daily activities without drain, the surplus energy goes upward to heal and release the stored mental/emotional toxins. As these release more and more you begin to experience more and more of HIS love, joy and peace as you become a purer vessel that HIS love, joy, and peace can flow through. His Spirit will flow into your spirit, your mind and emotions and into your body. You are now the true light of the world that will entrain the world to the highest frequency of His love, His joy, His peace and His hope.

Mother Theresa raised the world’s frequency when she unconditionally loved the sick and dying. You can do the same to your family, your world if you begin to balance yourself in body, mind and spirit.

The Natural Way to Boost Your Immune System

Your immune system is the first line of defense against illness and cellular degeneration. When your immune system is strong, and operating at peak efficiency, your body is better able to stave off infection, battle illness, protect against cell damage and prevent cancer formation. The immune system can be adversely affected by a number of different factors. Toxins, aging, wounds, trauma both physical and mental/emotional and chronic diseases such as multiple sclerosis and cancer all diminish the power and efficiency of the immune system. But there are many natural ways to boost your immune system, and improve the body’s inherent power to defend itself against disease. These immune system boosting techniques are easy to implement, and the results can be life changing.

Diet

The first and most basic method of improving one’s immune system is through diet. For all of the luxuries and benefits of modern life, it must be said that our diets have suffered greatly in the last hundred plus years. Fruits and vegetables are sprayed with pesticides or genetically modified, meat and dairy products are filled with hormones and chemicals and most people drink much more soft drinks and alcohol than clear clean water. All of these toxins end up in the body, causing lesser and greater degrees of damage. Beyond the damage caused by these toxins, is the loss of nutrients that should be provided by a balanced diet. In effect, modern men and women are suffering from malnutrition, even as they eat the “best” and most expensive foods available. An immunity boosting diet should consist of fresh fruits, vegetables, and grains seeds, nuts and avocados that are grown organically meaning they are free of pesticides and chemicals. Herbs contain powerful phytochemicals that greatly enhance immune function and can easily be implemented into your daily diet routine. These include fresh organic garlic, onions, curcumin, turmeric, ginger, basil, rosemary, clove, cayenne pepper, fennel, anise, coriander and cilantro. By adhering to a sensible diet, it is possible to boost the immune system while improving your overall health.

Exercise

Equally as important as diet in strengthening the immune system is a regimen of regular exercise. As much as people hate to hear it, the truth is we have become a predominantly sedentary culture. Many people get little or no exercise on a regular basis, leaving them feeling fatigued and leaving their systems vulnerable to viruses and bacteria that should be easily fought off by a strong immune system.  Regular exercise helps to reduce stress and releases toxins that would otherwise be stored in the fat cells and tissues of the body, impeding the healthy functioning of all of the body’s system. People taking regular exercise have been proven to suffer much fewer instances of cold and flu, and are generally in a better position to stave of many common illnesses.

Stress

Stress reduction also plays a large role in keeping the immune system strong and healthy. Day to day stress is a fact of life, and while you may not be able to eliminate stress at it’s source, you can learn ways to manage that stress. Meditation and prayer are the best ways to release stress and balance the mind and body. Another powerful way to decrease stress is to live more fully in the moment instead of the future or the past. Studies have shown that people under stress, whether it be day to day aggravations or high stressers like moving house or changing jobs, are more susceptible to illness.   Stress acts upon the immune system, retarding it’s function, and allowing the everyday exposure to germs and viruses to cause illnesses that the immune system would otherwise be able to fend off. Stress management, and a regular healthy sleep pattern can do wonders to keep your immune system operating at it’s peak.

Supplements

Finally, taking natural supplements can help to boost your immune systems function. Vitamins, minerals and herbals supplements can have a great effect upon a person’s health. Vitamins A, B6, C and D are particularly useful in boosting both your general health and your immune system. Mineral supplements such as zinc and selenium are also recommended. It is always best to get your vitamins and minerals from your food for example eating just two Brazil nuts a day give you your daily allowance of selenium. Herbal supplements, like echinacea, goldenseal, and garlic can also have a profound effect on the health of the human body. These herbs not only boost the immune system, but have anti-cancer and anti-microbial properties, effectively helping to avert any number of diseases in and of themselves. In addition to the proper vitamins and herbs, regular doses of Omega-3 fatty acids can be taken as supplements to a healthy diet.

The human immune system is an awesome creation of God. Throughout your life it protects your body from viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungi and cancer cell formation and also helps to fight off illnesses and diseases of all types. Your immune system also aids in the day to day protection and repair of cells throughout the body.  With age, or chronic disease, the immune system may begin to weaken. But with a healthy diet, sensible exercise and the right mix of natural supplements you can help your immune system to continue to help you. These natural methods can boost your immune system and keep it operating at optimal levels throughout your life.

Milk is NOT Necessary for Strong Bones

Milk Not Needed for BonesIn the medical journal Pediatrics new research has found little evidence that children need a milk-heavy diet to build strong bones.

The authors analyzed findings from 27 studies focused on diet and bone health in children and young adults. According to the authors, only nine of those studies found a relationship between calcium intake and bone health, and the effects were small.
The study co-author Amy Lanou, nutrition director for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine said, she recommends non-animal sources of calcium instead, such as dark greens, tofu, nuts and seeds. Getting more calcium from dairy products simply isn’t necessary, she said.

Instead, she suggests that parents look at other ways to promote the growth of strong bones. “The best option is to get your kids outside playing, getting some exercise and some sunshine, and make sure they have an overall healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes.”

When it comes to its role in forming and maintaining strong bones, “the data for calcium is quite weak, as compared to looking at vitamin K and vitamin D,” Susan Brown, director of the Osteoporosis Education Project, told the Syracuse, N.Y., Post-Standard. She believes many Americans overestimate the amount of calcium they need to incorporate into their daily diet.
-Pediatrics

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec comments on Milk is NOT Necessary for Strong Bones:

This research states it clearly that there is little evidence that milk is necessary to build strong bones.

The lead researchers recommend non-animal sources of calcium which include dark greens, nuts and seeds. This includes kale, collard greens, broccoli, dandelion, spinach, almonds, and sesame seeds.

Why do people want to drink dead, cooked (Pasturized/enzymeless), antibiotic filled, hormone filled, and pesticide filled liquid meat? Milk and dairy are implicated as a trigger in cancer, heart disease, diabetes and autoimmune disease.

You were meant to drink milk. Mother’s milk and the day you stopped that milk was supposed to be the end of your milk drinking.

Dr. Frank Oski, past head of Pediatrics at John Hopkins Hospital stated this issue clearly in his book “Don’t Drink Your Milk”.

Finding Relief from Graves Disease

People suffering with Graves disease know how disruptive the  disorder can be to their daily lives. While Graves is rarely life threatening, women and men  suffering from it’s effects can find the symptoms highly debilitating. Anxiety, irritability, weight loss, and tremors are only a sampling of the more common symptoms Graves sufferers must face on a daily basis. In more severe cases, patients can experience  a bulging of the eyeballs (exophthalmos), extreme hypertension, heart arrhythmia and atrial fibrillation. With successful treatment patients often find the disease will ultimately go into remission, but treatment can be a long process, and the right choice of therapy can mean the difference between managed pain and a life free of symptoms.

Conventional Treatments for Graves Disease

Graves disease is an autoimmune disorder that causes the thyroid gland to overproduce the hormone thyroxine. As part of the endocrine system, a healthy thyroid plays a vital role in keeping the body functioning at optimal levels. When Graves strikes, sufferers find themselves at the mercy of a body that is systematically out of balance, leading to both physical and emotional discomfort.

Traditionally, patients suffering with Graves disease, as well as with other forms of hyperthyroidism, have been forced to balance the desire to manage their symptoms against the often invasive treatments that have been available. Chemical and drug dependent therapies seek to relieve the overall symptoms of Graves disease, but the side effects are often extremely unpleasant in themselves. Lethargy, mental fatigue and weight gain are a poor trade for relief from the symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Moreover, these treatments only relieve the general symptoms of Graves disease, and fail to address the overarching cause of the disorder.

More extreme treatments for the hyperthyroidism brought on by Graves disease often include radiation therapy to shrink the thyroid, or radical surgery to remove the thyroid gland altogether. The result of these more intense treatments is a dependence on prescription drugs to compensate for the loss or damage of the thyroid. Patients will need to continue a lifelong regimen of hormone supplements to compensate for the loss of their naturally occurring thyroxine.

These conventional treatments are indeed effective, and remain the most commonly prescribed therapies for cases of hyperthyroidism and Graves disease. However, many patients are finding that alternatives to these traditional treatments can offer as much, if not more, relief. These holistic treatments can help patients avoid the many unwanted side effects that accompany chemical therapy, all while maintaining the overall integrity of the body.

Alternative Treatments for Graves Disease

Holistic physicians and clinicians approach any disease or dysfunction by first considering the body as a whole. No part of the human body works in isolation, and every system is dependent upon the health and well being of it’s counterparts. Therefore, any course of treatment must take into account all aspects of the patients health. Diet, stress, physical fitness and exposure to environmental toxins must all be considered as causes of, or exacerbating influences upon, a patient’s overactive thyroid.

The first, and most basic, treatment for Graves disease is to make dietary adjustments that will reduce, or eliminate, any foods or toxins that may be acting as a trigger for the disease. While the underlying cause of Graves disease is still undetermined, recent research shows that certain foods, toxins and chemicals can act as a trigger that instigates the hyperthyroidism. By eating foods that are higher in selenium, zinc and vitamins A and D, along with some supplementation, clinicians can reduce the levels of toxins in their patient’s systems and subsequently relieve, and limit, the instances of Graves related symptoms. This treatment can be taken in conjunction with traditional drug therapies, although the ultimate goal is to become drug free by treatment’s end.

As we have seen, Graves disease is an autoimmune disorder that targets the thyroid gland. The whole body approach to treatment includes therapies that are designed to regulate the patient’s immune system, and return to it to optimal performance. Conventional treatments attempt to suppress the immune system with drugs, but with the judicious use of customized diet therapy, herbal and vitamin supplements the dysfunctional immune system can be regulated and returned to a healthy and balanced state. Foods high in omega 3 fatty acids like green vegetables, flax, chia and hemp seeds and wild salmon along various vitamins and natural anti-inflammatories are effective in treating many autoimmune disorders. Patients undergoing treatment for Graves disease will want to work with their  clinicians to design a therapy that addresses their individual needs, bearing in mind that no two patients will respond to the same treatment.

Graves disease  has no conventionally recognized cure. Currently, traditional medicine concentrates on managing the symptoms with drugs, and waiting for the disease to go into remission. For patients suffering from Graves disease that can be a long wait indeed. The whole body approach to health and well-being offers a more natural relief from the symptoms of hyperthyroidism and Graves disease by attempting to restore the patient’s immune system to an optimal balance. Through natural supplements, dietary and lifestyle changes, the symptoms of hyperthyroidism can be greatly reduced, and when balance and harmony are restored the patient can live their life free of the debilitating effects of Graves disease.

Heart/Brain Entrainment Therapy

We finally (after over ten years of research) are now able to bring the ultimate brain, mind, heart, body treatment into THI. This treatment will be our most powerful ever! It balances the brain, the mind, the heart and all systems of the body at the same time! This is the treatment to help resolve the most chronic health issues. Remember brain and mind rule over the body and heart rules over the brain and mind. This therapy balances all of them simultaneously.  This treatment is the way to overcome any mental/emotional blockage along with bringing your physical healing to the highest level.

How to Heal at the Highest Level with Heart/Brain Entrainment Therapy

  1.  Balance Your Brain- Heart/Brain Entrainment Therapy
  2.  Balance Your Mind- by renewing your mind with Truth instead of facts and lies. Living fully in the moment and separating from fear and doubt and with Heart/Brain Entrainment Therapy
  3. Balance Your Heart- by following the Truth God has placed in your heart and by knowing your purpose and following it. Also by Heart/Brain Entrainment Therapy

You will have an initial Brain Map exam performed. This shows all the areas of imbalance in the brain. Each session your brain is entraining to the customized frequency pattern generated from the computer program off your Brain Map.  Your brain/mind/heart/body are balanced progressively over the course of treatment so they enters a state of balance or harmony called coherence.

Laughter Boosts Immune System and Helps Fight Cancer

Laughter Improves HealthWatching a comedy appears to improve blood vessel function, which may help explain why having a good laugh appears to have numerous health benefits. In contrast, investigators found that when viewers watched a disturbing scene from war movies, their blood vessel function appeared to deteriorate, suggesting that mental  stress can take its toll on the body. Something “that is easy to do, economical, never been shown to hurt you, is something we should do every day, that is to laugh,” according to Dr. Michael Miller of the University of Maryland in Baltimore.
Previous research has linked laughter to a series of health benefits. For instance, a group of researchers in Japan found that people with type 2 diabetes– the most common form of the disease — had a smaller rise in post-meal blood sugar when they watched a comedy show than when they listened to a humorless lecture. Still other research found that simply looking forward to having a good laugh can boost the immune system and reduce stress.

For the current study, Miller and his colleagues measured blood vessel functioning in 20 non-smoking, healthy participants. Almost all of the volunteers (95 percent) experienced increased blood flow while watching the funny movie, while three quarters (74 percent) had decreased flow while observing the ravages of war onscreen. Overall, average blood flow increased 22 percent while laughing and decreased 35 percent during mental stress. The magnitude of the changes was similar to the benefit that might be seen with aerobic activity, Miller said. That’s not a reason to trade laughing for exercise, he added; the ideal would be to do both.

It’s not clear why laughter had this beneficial effect, but Miller has some ideas. “The endothelium has endorphin receptors so what may be happening after a good laugh is these endorphins are released and activate the receptors, causing an interaction or perhaps just an independent dilation of the endothelium,” he said. Endorphins are “feel good” chemicals with morphine-like properties. It’s also possible that mental stress may lead to the release of stress hormones such as cortisol, which may then reduce the release of nitric oxide from endothelial cells. This, in turn, could result in constriction of the vessel. “The healthier the vessel, the more it opens up,” Miller said in an interview. For instance, healthy blood vessels are less likely to form clots, he noted. If people have poor endothelial health, they are more likely to experience a worsening of heart disease, Miller added. He explained that when our bodies are stressed, we produce hormones that may cause changes in the endothelium. Previous research suggests that the effects of stress last around 45 minutes, but if stress is unrelenting, it may help permanently alter the blood vessels, Miller said. – American College of Cardiology.

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec comments on Laughter Boosts Immune System and Helps Fight Cancer:

It is amazing how the simple things in life have the greatest benefits. Like getting to sleep by 8:30 p.m. and waking by 6 a.m. which will tremendously boost your immune system and help to balance your nervous and hormonal system. Laughter is important in any alternative cancer treatment program.

Another simple but very effective way to boost your immune system and balance your hormonal system is to laugh. Isn’t it interesting how our mind affects our body? When people watch comedies, their blood flow increases by 22% and when they watched graphic war movies, their blood flow decreases by 35%. The studies in Japan even show a more balanced blood sugar in diabetics when they watch comedies and laugh. So purchase some “I Love Lucy” DVDs and start improving your health today. Research has shown that the average child laughs hundreds of times and the average adult less than 20 times per day. Could this be tied into aging? Norman Cousins wrote in his book “Anatomy of an Illness” how he healed himself of a chronic degenerative disease by watching comedies and laughing hours each day.

Toxic Dust and Mold Weaken Immune System

According to a new study released, Americans are exposed to a variety of potentially dangerous chemicals and toxic dust in their homes from products such as computers, frying pans and shower curtains.

The study, called “Sick of Dust,” found 35 hazardous industrial chemicals in household dust samples from 70 homes in seven states, including Michigan and California. It was commissioned by nine environmental groups, including the Center for Environmental Health in Oakland and the Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition in San Jose.

“It literally brings home the fact that hazardous chemicals are in our daily lives,” said Beverly Thorpe, international director for Clean Production Action, one of the study’s sponsors. “We feel now is a prime opportunity to overhaul chemical regulation in the United States.”

The researchers tested the dust samples for six types of chemicals, including pesticides and flame retardants. All the chemicals are legal, but many are known to be harmful to immune, respiratory, cardiovascular and reproductive systems. They said infants and young children are especially vulnerable to exposure.

But the American Chemistry Council, which represents major chemistry companies, said that just because a substance is found in toxic dust or in the body at low levels doesn’t necessarily mean it causes health problems.

The study’s backers said they decided to test dust samples in U.S. homes after seeing similar studies that found high levels of toxic chemicals in households in Europe, where lawmakers are tightening regulation of chemical production.

They said they hope the test results will help prompt state and federal legislation to curb the use of dangerous chemicals in the production of household goods, ranging from furniture and clothes to carpets and nail polish.

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec comments on Toxic Dust and Mold Weaken Immune System:

Your home is your sanctuary and your bedroom is your inner sanctuary. Four things are major offenders of your health in your household environment.

1. Mold

2. Dust

3. Chemicals

4. Bacteria and viruses

As these studies have shown, the mold will weaken the immune system and trigger many types of immune disorders one being asthma. Toxic dust represents the chemicals in your house and the world. This study shows 35 hazardous industrial chemicals in household dust, some including pesticides, toxic chemicals, and flame retardants just to name a few.

Another study shows that common house dust aka toxic dust contained 33 chemicals that promote breast cancer formation.

What is the answer?

First purify your home environment by the following steps:

1. Never use standard cleaning supplies in your house, only all natural, nontoxic substances.

2. Remove all carpets as soon as possible. Carpets are loaded with chemicals, mold and toxic dust. Replace with hardwood floors.

3. Get rid of draperies, window treatments and any other dust collectors.

4. Purchase an air purifier which detoxifies chemicals, kills mold, bacteria and settles floating dust to the ground.

Mind Over Pain and Virtual Reality

Virtual reality is helping to ease the pain associated with serious conditions. Dr. Hunter Hoffman, a pain expert at the University of Washington, Seattle, said virtual reality devices have worked wonders for patients recovering from severe burns.

“Usually, during procedures they’re just thinking about their pain and how much it hurts. In wound care, they focus on how long it’s going to take or what the nurse is going to do next,” he said.

Hoffmann recently completed a study of burn patients using headsets that allowed them to enter into a kind of computer-generated fantasyland as they underwent painful wound care.

“We found very dramatic reductions in pain-related brain activity when they were in virtual reality,” compared to when they were not, Hoffmann said, with patients generally enthusiastic about the relief virtual reality provides.

He believes the devices distract brain activity away from neurological pain centers. “That’s what’s making it work so well — it’s grabbing attention, making it go to another place,” he said.

The spirits of cancer patients undergoing stressful chemotherapy may also get a lift from video-generated virtual worlds.

“We’ve done series of three studies so far — one with adolescents, one with younger women with breast cancer, and one with older women with breast cancer,” said Susan Schneider, a specialist in cancer care at Duke University Medical School.

Her team found the use of video headsets seems to take patient’s minds off the fear and anxiety surrounding chemotherapy, allowing them to escape for a while from the reality of cancer care.

“Some folks relax because it’s taking their mind off things,” Schneider said. “We see their blood pressure dropping, they appear to have calmer breathing.

For some, she said, chemotherapy changes from something that’s dreaded to something that’s almost enjoyable.

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec comments on Mind Over Pain and Virtual Reality:

What these studies show are that if you take your mind off any painful or unpleasant experience and put it on a pleasurable experience, the pain will lessen, the unpleasantness does seem to be unpleasant.

Let us take this to a deeper level. All top athletes can play in pain and perform at unbelievably high levels even when in pain or ill. How do they do this? They focus on the moment and the moment only. When they are so fully in the moment (this is called in sports “being in the zone”), even pain and sickness appears to leave because they are so absorbed into the moment that they are not at all in the past or the future. To be in the past would think “I don’t know if I can do this, last time I felt like this I was in bed for 3 days” or to be in the future would think “What if this pain doesn’t subside, I will not be able to tolerate it, I will not be able to function”. These top athletes have learned an important key in life—to live life fully you must live fully in the moment.

God’s name is I AM, not I was or I will be. When you live fully in the moment, you are living fully in His eternal, infinite, I AM presence. In this presence “all things are possible.”

So stay in the moment, live in the moment. There is no better place to be.

Fasting Has an Anti-Cancer Effect

Cutting calories by fasting every other day may make cells less prone to becoming cancerous, the results of a study in mice suggest.

Scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, found that when they put mice on a routine of alternate-day fasting, it reduced the rate at which the animals’ body cells divided and proliferated. Because cancer begins when abnormal cells are allowed to divide and spread unchecked, this slowed-down cell division could theoretically reduce the risk of tumor development according to Dr. Marc Hellerstein, who led the research.

“I think everyone would agree that if you reduce cell proliferation in cancer-prone tissue you’ve done a good thing” said Hellerstein.

The study adds to a growing body of evidence that links calorie cutting to both longer life and lower cancer risk in animals.

Whether fasting could help people lower their cancer risk or prolong their lives is not yet known. But the encouraging finding from this study, the authors say, is that it didn’t take substantial calorie deprivation to spur the potentially beneficial cellular changes.

The mice fasted four days a week and allowed to eat as much as they wanted on non-fasting days. The net effect was a five-percent lower-than-normal calorie intake, which in humans would amount to eliminating about 100 calories per day.

The impact of this modest calorie reduction on cell division was nearly as significant as what Hellerstein’s team saw in a group of mice whose calorie intake was slashed by one third.

Much research interest of late has gone toward the possible benefits of calorie restriction, in which calories are limited but not to the point of malnutrition. Calorie reduction has been shown to extend the lifespan, with studies demonstrating the phenomenon in species ranging from yeast to fish to some mammals.

There are a number of theories on why limiting food might make for a longer, healthier life. One idea is that slowing the rate of metabolism reduces the generation of oxygen free radicals, potentially cell-damaging molecules that are a normal byproduct of the metabolic process.

When it comes to cancer specifically, research has suggested that calorie cutting could be beneficial in a number of ways — with reduced cell proliferation being one.

Exactly why fasting or general calorie restriction might dampen cell proliferation is unclear, according to Hellerstein, but he said it is likely to be related to metabolic effects.

“I think that a tremendous signal kicks in” when the body is deprived of food, Hellerstein said. What the signal or signals are is unknown, but one possible player, according to the researcher, is insulin-like growth factor type 1 (IGF-1) — a protein that helps spur cells to multiply and has been implicated in the cancer process. Previous animal research has shown that calorie restriction reduces blood levels of IGF-1.

The new findings, according to Hellerstein, suggest the possibility of health benefits from moderate calorie restriction, whether through generally eating less or “intermittent” fasting.

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec comments on Fasting Has an Anti-Cancer Effect:

This study showed another powerful truth—when less calories are taken in the body, the cells can fight cancer better. In tying this together with the previous study on living/raw vegan diets and health benefits the living/raw vegans had the benefits of:

1. Decreased CRP–decreased inflammation in the body which is the root cause of disease.

2. Decreased IGF-1—decreases cancer risk in rats.

3. Increased Vitamin D concentration which makes for strong bones.

In this study of fasting (decreasing total calories) the benefit was:

Decreased levels of IGF-1 which causes an anticancer effect on the cells. So this means the living/raw vegan diet did the same thing as the fasting diet and it decreased inflammation and had an anticancer effect on the cells.

What is a living/raw plant based vegan diet? It is fasting permanently from the SAD (Standard American Diet) of cooked food, processed food, meat, chicken, fish and dairy products which have all been shown to increase disease risk. Overcoming Life’s Challenges

The question so many ask on the journey of life is when will I get there? Or am I there yet? To answer the question let us use a story as an example: The Wizard of Oz. In this classic, Dorothy ends up in the Land of Oz and she must go on a journey first to the Wizard to see if he can know a way that she can get back to her home in Kansas. Then second, after meeting with the wizard she must go on another journey to kill the wicked witch and bring back her broomstick to the Wizard so he will then grant her request to return to Kansas. What happens in the story is that she successfully puts the witch to death, returns to the Wizard with the broomstick and he, a Kansas native himself, decides to go back also and agrees to bring her with him via hot air balloon. Well, at the last minute she misses her balloon ride and thinks she is stuck in Oz the rest of her life when the good witch appears and tells her the secret of life. With the ruby slippers she was wearing she could have gone home any time. What is the moral of this story?

We are there, not we will get there someday, or how much longer before I get there.

What is there? There is overcoming the disease, overcoming the relationship struggle, overcoming the financial disaster, overcoming the three year long unemployment or just overcoming the need to get somewhere, anywhere other than where you are right now.

Coming to Terms with “Why Me”?

As the truth of the saying goes, “This is as good as it gets.”  Coming to terms with suffering and learning how to live with a “this is as good as it gets” mind set may help overcome life’s challenges.

This brings up many questions:

1. How can this be as good as it gets when I am suffering and dying with cancer?

2. This cannot be as good as it gets when I have been out of work for three years, I have spent all my savings and am about to go on welfare?

3. My husband has left me and my four children for another woman. I have no money and no one to turn to. If this is as good as it gets, then my life is as good as over. How can this be?

To answer these questions, I will use some questions.

1. Where does suffering come from?

2. Where does cause and effect come from?

3. Where does good come from?

God’s Guidance

Suffering can be defined as a state of the mind, thinking that you want to or you need to be anywhere else other than where you are. The story of Job covers this topic in detail. After Job lost his wealth, lost his family and lost his health, he questioned his very existence saying “why was I even born?” Then, God shows up and asks Job “where were you when I created the heavens and the earth?” The story ends with Job humbly saying to God “I spoke of things I did not understand”. Basically, Job said “You are God and I spoke out of line to every question of why you allow certain things to occur”. Everything has a purpose in God’s plan for our lives and in the end Job received even more wealth, his family and his health.

Where does cause and effect come from? It comes from the physical realm. It comes from the mind. In this physical world, if I do this, I get that. This is how you have grown up and been trained. If I dedicate myself to success and put all my energy toward that, I will reap what I sow–success. Some of the richest people have continued to press forward despite great odds, great losses, great hardships, but in the end received what they knew was theirs for the taking–success.

In the spiritual realm, there is NO cause and effect. You no longer work to achieve anything or to get anywhere because you are already there. In the spiritual realm, time no longer exists. So everything is NOW. Even God’s name is NOW. His name is “I Am” not I was or I will be but I Am. What this all means to you is that when you rest in Him, you rest in what is, not what was or what will be.

In Heaven you will not be trying to achieve anything or be trying to be someone or get somewhere. You will already be all that you were created to be and you will live in that state of being.

Now, if you could imagine for a moment the Kingdom of Heaven coming to earth, the Kingdom of Heaven is actually within you. While you are on earth, you can access the truth of the statement “This is as good as it gets.”

To understand “This is as good as it gets” you must understand what good means. Good means God and God means good. There is no one good in their old human nature. Good only comes when we are one with God and then His goodness becomes our good.

So to say this is as good as it gets really means to say: This is as God as it gets. Another way the phrase it is God is fully in this moment. The question is–are you fully in the same present moment as He is, or are you living in the same moment He lives in?

God lives only in the infinite, eternal “I Am” present moment. He does not live in the past or the future. When even you find yourself trying to live in the past or the future you have stepped out of His presence and that is called suffering.

When you do not accept “What IS” then you suffer.

When you do not see Him behind everything that comes into your life, then you suffer.

Everything He allows into your life has a purpose, and the purpose is to transform you into His likeness and image. To bring you to live and walk more in the spiritual realm and less in the world-filled, ego-filled, flesh-filled, lie-filled old mind realm.

When the doctor says you have three months to live with this cancer, you must not live in the future–the three months but in the moment–where God the I AM lives.

Would you rather live 75 years in bondage to fear, death and the old mind or just one day fully in His Presence living life to the full, free from all fear, all bondage, and all the lies of the old mind?

What you will find is once you start living fully in the moments, they become so beautiful, so God, that you are no longer looking at time, no longer looking at the cancer, the relationship loss, the financial crisis but instead living life to the full as He intended you to. This is eternal life, this is heaven coming to earth, this is His Kingdom come.

Lack of Sleep Causes Health Problems

Lack of Sleep Health ProblemsLack of sleep is leaving Americans with deteriorating productivity, and dangerous driving practices.

According to the 2005 Sleep in America poll by the National Sleep Foundation, only half the country sleeping well almost every night. The other half is split between those getting “a good night’s sleep” a few nights each week and those resting well a few nights a month or less.

“This is very much in line with what I’m seeing in my practice. People in the U.S. don’t make sleep a priority,” said Dr. Stasia J. Wieber, director of the Comprehensive Center for Sleep Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. “It really is a very important aspect of one’s health care and public health. It affects your personal health and also can put others in jeopardy.”

The poll of 1,500 adults was released as part of the sleep foundation’s Eighth Annual National Sleep Awareness Week campaign.

Lack of sleep is on the rise but too often ignored, the poll found. Although half of those surveyed reported a sleep problem such as waking up during the night and 24 percent said the problems affected their daily activities, 75 percent of the respondents didn’t characterize their symptoms as a lack of sleep.

On average, Americans sleep 6.9 hours a night, just below the recommended seven to nine hours. But more people today say they are sleeping less than six hours on weeknights (16 percent vs. 12 percent in 1998) and on weekends (10 percent vs. 8 percent in 1998).

More than one half (54 percent) of respondents said they had at least one symptom of insomnia a few nights a week or more. The most commonly cited symptoms were waking up feeling unrefreshed (38 percent) or waking during the night (32 percent).

Half of the survey respondents said they felt tired or “not up to par” during the day and 17 percent said they felt this way just about every day.

The repercussions of not having a good night’s sleep are numerous and can be serious, even life threatening. Sixty percent of adults licensed to drive said they had driven while drowsy over the past year, the highest rate since the poll was first conducted in 1999. Four percent said they had had an accident or near accident due to drowsiness while behind the wheel. If extrapolated to the rest of the population, this would mean that about 115 million people felt tired behind the wheel while more than 7 million drivers had an accident or near accident due to lack of sleep, the researchers said.

Almost one-third of working adults said they had missed work or made mistakes at work because of lack of sleep or sleep problems in the past three months.

The poll also found that poor health was often associated with poor sleep. Adults with at least one common medical condition, such as high blood pressure or arthritis, are less likely to sleep well and are about twice as likely to feel drowsy during the day.

In line with other studies, this poll found that nearly two-thirds of Americans (64 percent) are overweight or obese — and that this condition contributes to sleep problems. Compared to adults of normal weight, people who are obese are more likely to sleep less than six hours each weeknight (18 percent vs. 11 percent) and often feel sleepy during the day (37 percent vs. 26 percent).

Overweight and obese individuals were also nearly six times as likely to suffer from sleep apnea than normal-weight individuals. According to the report, more than a quarter (26 percent) of respondents were at risk for sleep apnea, a condition marked by disruptions in breathing while a person is asleep. The condition is associated with high blood pressure and stroke.

“People need to make sleep a priority,” Wieber said. – 2005 Sleep in America Poll, National Sleep Foundation, Washington, D.C.; Stasia J. Wieber, M.D., director, Comprehensive Center for Sleep Medicine, Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York City

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec Comments on Lack of Sleep Causes Health Problems:

Sleep is one of the most important basic steps taken that keep one healthy and whole. You can go three minutes without oxygen, then you will die. You can only go two days without sleep, then you will pass out. You can go only five days without water and you can go thirty plus days without food. So in the big scheme of life and health, sleeping is close to the top. How much sleep should you get? Ideally for health and healing a person is in bed by 8:30 p.m. and wakes up at 6 a.m. This is 9.5 hours of sleep which has tremendous affects on balancing the body. 9.5 hours of sleep with at least 3.5 hours before midnight causes:

1. The hormonal system to balance

2. The immune system to balance

3. The blood sugar to begin to balance

Basically, to not get this needed sleep makes you fat, diabetic, cancer prone, anxious and depressed.

The Work You Love To Do | Live a Satisfying Life With a Purpose

What is the difference between the work you do and your life’s purpose or mission?

Life is so much more than working 40 hours a week to get a paycheck. In this life we were created by God to work. God created Adam to work; and this is a good thing, a God thing when it is done from the heart and not the mind.

To really be satisfied and fulfilled in life is to do, or work at what God created you to do. People ask, “How do I know what God created me to do?” To answer this you must go on an inward journey, a journey of the heart.

First, you must answer the question “What is my purpose in life?”

The answer is divided into the following categories:

  • To know God
  • To see Him in everything and everyone
  • To be free
  • To live life to the full in every moment
  • To not try to change the moment, the “what is”.
  • To obey the heart and not the old mind
  • To die (to the old nature) before you die
  • To transform into God’s image in body, mind and spirit
  • To be the light of the world in body, mind and spirit

To know what God created you to do and what work He has called you to do. You must also ask yourself these questions.

1. Would I do what I am doing if I had only 5 years to live and I had to work those 5 years?

2. Do I look forward to each day of work as a new adventure seeking to see what God is going to show me today or do I dread each day just trying to make it to the end of the day, end of the week, living for the weekend and holidays and vacations.

The next big question is:

Are you working from your head or from your heart? Are you working from what the world system has put in your mind or from what God has put in your heart?

The two of these do not agree with each other. You are either working to do something, achieve something or be somebody in the world or you are working doing God’s will, and becoming transformed more into His image moment by moment.

A few other things to remember in your work:

1. The grass is never greener on the other side. So many people think that another job would be better, my boss would appreciate me more or my co-workers would treat me better, or the work would be easier. God has a plan and purpose for everything and that job is one of the vessels that will grow and mature you into His image. The way you know it is time to move on to another job is when your free not to take another job, then God will open the door, instead of you opening the door.

2. “I want to get a job that can glorify God and help people instead of working in this day to day boring routine where I am changing nobody’s life.” The greatest way you can bring glory to God is to live fully in the moment that He allowed into your life for the specific reason to help you grow in the journey. When you have learned to see Him in everyone and everything, when you can persevere in the most difficult, mundane and monotonous situations, when you can stand strong in Him when the whole world around you is coming against you, these are the things that victory and freedom are made of, this is when cleaning toilets will become such a divine moment that you will never want it to end. “Whether I eat or drink (or clean toilets) I do it all to the glory of God.”

So in this life you live, live it to the full no matter what job you are in, see it as an opportunity to become more like Him who created you. Do not live for the promise land because if you do, you will dread the wilderness. Instead by living fully in each moment in the wilderness you will experience the miracles of God in each moment—the manna from heaven in every moment, and what awesome moments they will be.

Diet and Exercise – Better Than Medication in Preventing Disease

Preventing Cancer Through Diet and ExerciseLifestyle changes such as diet and exercise are more effective than drug treatment in preventing metabolic syndrome, which is made up of high blood sugar, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity and can lead to diabetes and heart disease, according to a new study.

Dr. Trevor J. Orchard, at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, and colleagues followed 3234 people who had not yet developed outright diabetes but who had high blood glucose levels.

The subjects were enrolled in the Diabetes Prevention Program, and were randomly assigned to take the anti-diabetes drug metformin, or an inactive placebo pill, or to undertake an intensive lifestyle intervention — designed to achieve and maintain a 7 percent weight loss and 150 minutes of exercise per week.

Metabolic syndrome — which is a combination of obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and high blood sugar levels — was diagnosed in 53 percent of the participants overall when they were enrolled in the study.

After an average 3-year follow-up, the rate of metabolic syndrome decreased from 51 percent to 43 percent in the lifestyle group. However, it increased from 55 percent to 61 percent in the placebo group, and from 54 percent to 55 percent in the metformin group.

These findings highlight the value of lifestyle interventions in the prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome, Orchard’s group notes.

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec comments on Diet and Exercise – Better Than Medication in Preventing Disease:

As has been shown once again, God’s natural way to health exceeds man’s unnatural way to health with drug therapies. Drugs are chemicals and chemicals make the body overwork and become toxic which opens the door to all disease. Foods are not chemicals and toxins and they open the door to higher levels of health. Of course, exercise always has been a part of the formula for good health. Drugs must be kept in the domain where they belong—in emergency medical care such as life threatening situations and also when organs have been damaged and they no longer function correctly. Americans Are Overmedicating

About 130 million Americans swallow, inject, inhale, infuse, spray, and pat on prescribed medication every month, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates. Americans buy much more medicine per person than any other country in the world.

The number of prescriptions has grown by two-thirds over the past decade to 3.5 billion yearly, according to IMS Health, a pharmaceutical consulting company. Americans consume even more nonprescription drugs, polling suggests.Recently, safety questions have beset some depression and anti-inflammatory drugs, pushing pain relievers Vioxx and – most recently – Bextra from the market. Rising ranks of doctors, researchers and public health experts are saying that America is overmedicating itself.

It is buying and taking far too much medicine, too readily and carelessly, for its own health and wealth, they say.Well over 125,000 Americans die from drug reactions and mistakes each year, according to Associated Press projections from landmark medical studies of the 1990s. That could make pharmaceuticals the fourth-leading national cause of death after heart disease, cancer and stroke. The pharmaceutical industry served up more than $250 billion worth of sales last year, the vast majority in prescriptions, according to industry consultants. That is about $850 spent on drugs for every American.

“We are taking way too many drugs for dubious or exaggerated ailments,’’ says Dr. Marcia Angell, former editor of the New England Journal of Medicine and author of “The Truth About the Drug Companies.’’ “What the drug companies are doing now is promoting drugs for long-term use to essentially healthy people. Why? Because it’s the biggest market.’’ The nation also overindulges far too often with its medication use, the critics say, and violates the classic proscription of the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates: “First, do no harm.’’

Drug safety researcher Dr. James Kaye, of Boston University, remembers a medical school teacher telling the class: “All drugs are poisonous!’’ Hospital patients suffer seven hard-to-foresee adverse drug reactions and another three outright drug mistakes for every 100 admissions, estimates Dr. David Bates, a researcher at Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital. That translates into 3.6 million drug misadventures a year.

Drug makers, doctors and patients have all been quick to medicate some conditions once accepted simply as part of the human condition. Around the country, prescription drug sales have pushed relentlessly upward by an annual average of 11 percent over the past five years. The aging population is partly at fault, with its attendant ailments like cancer, heart attacks, stroke and Alzheimer’s disease. Other conditions have mysteriously proliferated, including asthma, diabetes and obesity. Exercise and better diet ward off heart disease and diabetes just as effectively as drugs do, studies show. However, says Fred Eckel, who teaches pharmacy practice at the University of North Carolina, “There tends to be a reliance on drugs as the first option.’’

Happy People = Healthy People

Happy HealthyA happy person is a healthy person, say British researchers who have found evidence of a biological connection between a positive sense of well-being and reduced risk for disease among middle-aged men and women. In the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the authors report that simply being happy — at work and at play — is directly related with specific bodily functions that protect against cardiovascular disease, diabetes, autoimmune deficiencies and stress-related illnesses.

“There’s a direct link between how we’re feeling and the biological processes which relate to illness and illness risk,” said study author Dr. Andrew Steptoe, the British Heart Foundation professor of psychology at University College London. “Biology is going to be on the side of those people who are going to be in a more positive state of mind, and it may well stand these people in good stead for their future health.” Steptoe and his colleagues administered laboratory stress tests and standardized mental health questionnaires to more than 200 men and women, aged 45 to 59. All the participants were employed civil servants, with income levels ranging from high to low.

Medical exams had determined that all were in relatively good physical health, with no prior history of heart disease or high blood pressure. The researchers reported that age, marital status, gender and income appeared to have no impact on how happy the participants said they felt while at work.

Steptoe and his team also observed that those men and women who demonstrated the lowest levels of psychological distress on the earlier mental health screenings appeared to be generally happier people. And those men and women who were happiest at work seemed to be happiest at play, they said — although, for all participants, happiness was in more abundance during days off at home than during days “on” at the office. Cortisol readings did appear to firmly back the notion of a biological connection between stress and happiness. The researchers found the happiest men and women had the lowest levels of cortisol. Cortisol levels were, on average, more than 32 percent higher among the least happy individuals. The researchers noted the danger that high stress hormone levels can pose over time, highlighting the association between elevated cortisol and a higher risk for developing high blood pressure, diabetes, abdominal obesity and a decreased resistance to infection.

On another biological front, the authors reported that blood tests revealed up to 12 times higher levels of a liver-produced protein known as plasma fibrinogen among the least happy men and women. Fibrinogen works to stop bleeding by helping clots to form, but elevated levels of the protein have been associated with a higher risk for cardiovascular disease. The researchers concluded that a having a strong sense of well-being and happiness may help boost biological systems, ultimately helping to lower the risk for developing a range of illnesses down the road. And they emphasized that this happiness-healthiness pathway appears to be a direct mind-body link that is independent of lifestyle choices, such as exercise, smoking and drinking. “There’s no doubt that people should do the healthy lifestyle things — being physically active, and more prudent in their diets, and not smoking — irrespective of this biological link,” Steptoe advised. “But we need to think about things that will lead to more positive states as well.

Doing things that you want to do, and getting gratification from those things.” “Most of our sense of happiness seems to relate to having good relationships with family and friends, and that’s not something that can be maintained without some investment of effort, and keeping an appropriate balance. That balance, of course, is going to be different for different people.” Dr. Albert Ray is regional coordinator for health promotion and preventive care for Kaiser Permanente Southern California in San Diego said, “There’s no question that people with a positive attitude have lower blood pressure, suffer less illness, usually have lower cholesterol and better resistance to most infections,” he said. “And when they do get sick, usually a positive attitude can result in shorter illness.” – Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec Comments “Happy People = Healthy People”

What is important in this study is when people are happy, they have higher levels of health.  The question though is this:  “What does happy mean and what does joy mean?”

Does happy mean I am healthy, I have a lot of money, I have a great paying job, I am an important person in my workplace, I have a healthy family, I am doing very well in school or job place.

If this is happy, then yes when everything is going your way you will secrete less adrenaline (the hormone that regulates stress response) you will have a stronger immune system and life will be good.  This is why the study showed that they were happiest (and healthiest) when they were not at work.  (See above about work.)

The question is this:  “Would you rather be happy or filled with joy?”  Before you answer this, let me tell you the difference between the two.  Happy is a state of mind and being so it has the opposite of sad always being connected to it.  This means when the world goes my way such as I get a promotion, my family is healthy, I have investments for a financially secure future, I am happy.  But when I get fired from my job, my wife or husband is diagnosed with cancer and my investments meet with unexpected disaster and are all gone I am sad.  You cannot take happy without taking sad also.  What is joy?  It is a spiritual state of being.  It is a part of God’s nature within you and being such it has NO OPPOSITE.  There is no opposite to God and no opposite to His nature which He places inside of us.  So, joy is seeing His presence in everything.  Joy is the excitement of living every moment to the full in Him.

Joy is what the Apostle Paul had when he had been beat, was in great pain and was imprisoned in Philippi.  It was the joy in his heart that caused him to sing songs of praise to God.  It was not dependent upon the environment, the situation, or the people.  It was the unchangeable nature of God that was flowing in him and through him.

So, once again, would you pick happy and healthy or joyful and in total health?

Spirituality Slows Alzheimer’s Progression

A growing spiritual life may help slow the devastation of Alzheimer’s disease. “The data suggest there may be an association, meaning people with higher levels of spirituality have a slower progression of Alzheimer’s disease,” said Dr. Yakir Kaufman, director of neurology services at Sarah Herzog Memorial Hospital in Jerusalem. “This is the first study to actually attempt to look into a relationship between spirituality and religiosity and Alzheimer’s disease,” Kaufman said. Vincent Corso, a former priest who is now manager of spiritual care and bereavement services for Visiting Nurse Service of New York Hospice Care in New York City, said “People who are connected with a spiritual presence in their life, whether it takes the shape of a family member, close friend, support network, meditation or yoga, have a sense of peace and probably, by extrapolation, longevity.”

“What’s important to people is how much they’re able to connect with the people around them. If that creates a feeling of well-being, then that aids in the healing process.” Other research not related to Alzheimer’s disease has started to show a relationship between spirituality and better health outcomes.

“There’s a growing body of data showing the positive effects of higher levels of spirituality/religiosity on health outcomes, especially in other disease states,” Kaufman said. That data includes studies on other neurological conditions. For this study, the researchers assessed 68 people who met the criteria for probable Alzheimer’s disease. Participants were asked to complete a structured questionnaire which included questions such as how spiritual the participant viewed themselves, how often they attended religious services and how often they engaged in private religious activity such as prayer, meditation or Bible study.

There were also several true or false items, such as, “In my life, I experience the presence of the divine” and “My religious beliefs lie behind my whole approach to life.” Participants who had high levels of spirituality or of religiosity seemed to have a slower progression of cognitive decline. Possible explanation for this relationship could be related to level of well-being or could have been related to stress reduction.

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec comments on “Spirituality Slows Alzheimer’s Progression
There are two important points to make here.

First, people who take active steps to become more spiritual increase their overall health.

Second, there is a big difference between being spiritual and being religious.

This and other studies lump spirituality and religiosity together when they are in actuality not even close to the same.

Religiosity is doing things to feel closer to God. This can be by doing things such as going to church and being involved with church groups. Although this has some positive affects on health, it is not what true health or what total health is about. These have a positive influence on health just like the power of positive thinking would have positive affects on health.

A much higher level of the promotion of total health in body, mind and spirit is true spirituality. This is being one with God and no longer working for Him but being one with Him. To know true spirituality, one must know true covenant. Covenant simplest definition is LOVE. God so loved us He sent His Son to die for us so that we might live, just like you would die for your child. The other half of covenant is our part, our purpose on this planet which is to do what He has put into our hearts (not our minds) no matter what family, friends, people or the world system tell us. We must do it with all that we have, never quitting, stopping or giving up no matter what the cost even to the giving of your life. Covenant means spirituality and to be spiritual means to be in love with God and see Him in everything and everyone. It also means to be loved by God and to know that He loves you and is always leading and directing your footsteps and those whose footsteps cross your path in this journey of life.

When you are becoming spiritual, you are being transformed more and more into His image and likeness.

This comes not by going to church but by living each moment of your life to the full and seeing Him in it all.

What You Do Affects The Future Of Your Unborn (and Born/Grown) Children

Mothers who eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy and while nursing may reduce the risk of breast cancer in their daughters by as much as 40 percent, a new study of mice found. The researchers also found that feeding female offspring a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids after weaning reduced their risk of breast cancer by 40 percent. And consuming omega-3 fatty acids through foods at any point in life can reduce the rate for breast cancer in female offspring significantly, said lead researcher W. Elaine Hardman, an assistant professor at Louisiana State University’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center.

However, eating omega-6 fats, which are commonly found in Western diets, could increase female offsprings’ risk of breast cancer.  Both omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids are essential for good health. But in Western diets, the amount of omega-6 fatty acids is much greater than omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-6 acids are found in meat, eggs, poultry, cereals, breads, baked goods, most vegetable oils and margarine, the researchers said. Sources of omega-3 fatty acids are found in flaxseed and canola oils, seeds and nuts, the highest found in hemp and flax seeds. “In mice genetically programmed to develop breast cancer, we found that if we fed omega-3 fatty acids to the mice, we could prevent them from developing cancer,” Hardman said.

Hardman’s team compared the rates for breast cancer in the offspring depending upon how much omega-6 fatty acids or omega-3 fatty acids they and their mothers consumed. All the mouse pups exposed only to omega-6 fatty acids — in the uterus, while nursing and after weaning — developed mammary gland tumors by six months after birth. However, less than 60 percent of the female offspring with diets rich in omega-3 fatty acids either in the uterus or after weaning developed mammary tumors by eight months. Hartman speculated that because omega-3 fatty acids reduce the amount of estrogen, which is important in mammary gland development, this helps reduce cancer risk. “Somehow changes are going on in the breast tissue of the mice before they’re born that makes a difference in their risk for developing breast cancer later on,” she said. “Does this prove the same is true in humans? By itself, no. But in the context of all we know about dietary fats, hormones and health outcomes in people, it is very suggestive,” said Dr. David L. Katz, associate clinical professor of public health at Yale University School of Medicine. Katz noted that cancer typically develops slowly, often over decades. So, tracing the root causes, or tracking down all the clues to prevention, can be a challenge. “In this case, mice are providing an important clue, and teaching a lesson I believe we should heed,” he said.

Dr. Keith & Laurie Nemec Comments on “What You Do Affects The Future Of Your Unborn Children”

This fascinating study shows how what you do as a parent affects the future of your unborn child on the positive side.  Your journey into total health of body, mind and spirit is first and foremost a personal journey of transformation into God’s image, and along the way as you are transformed, the frequency you resonate with will be the light that shines to all those around you (including your children) to entrain them to a higher level.  This applies spiritually, mentally and with this study can also be seen physically by reducing the risk of breast cancer by up to 40%. In practice we have also seen what parents do affects the future of their children at any age. Not only are you called by God to be a good steward of your children and to train them up in the ways of God but also to be the example that they would naturally want to model. When you look at your children what you are looking at is a reflection of yourself. If you like what you see then you have been doing a great job of not only raising and training but also modeling what you desire them to be.

Do not forget the most important part of parenting is to be the example (and this knows no age limit).

The role model, the one your children look up to and want to be like should be YOU! This is a big task but when you sit at the feet of God and let His Spirit teach you, guide you and empower you then all things become possible. Your children’s success in life are dependant upon how you raise them (in love or in law) and how you demonstrate those principles in your own life. This training and being the example to your children never stops no matter how old you or your children become. Let us share a story. One of our patients had a broken relationship with her daughter ten years ago and the two had not spoken since. Our patient went through our four month health program to transform herself in body, mind and spirit. While she was on the health program she attended a family picnic that she did not know her daughter was going to attend but expectedly showed up. The first words spoken out of her daughters mouth to her in ten years were these: “Mom I don’t know what you are doing for yourself but keep doing it”.  Their relationship was restored and healed not by the mother wanting the daughter to change but by the mother changing herself first. Parents it is never to late to change yourself and in doing so you will change your children as our patient so beautifully experienced.
